Generaly you need to go US, regardless your personal preferences / material The order is US > JAP > EU Generaly the only jap games accepted are jap exclusive... or does contain massive difference that justificate it Taking the europe version is the worst idea here i think Also, im not sure its gonna be very entertaining, well, i hope it will for you :p

My run also mention it contain speed/entertainement trade off (this is obviously motivated by the fact richter is suboptimal) Thats your opinion about stage4, not mine, see entertainement can be something very subjective Whats sure is that stage4' is dead, theres nobody to kill, nothing to avoid, and its straight forward to the boss, no stairs to climb or whatever to do for richter I avoid like maybe, 10 traps in stage4 that are humanly impossible Now yeah, you can have your own definition of entertainement, mine doesnt include when nothing happen and everything get flat

My regards to Stage 4 vs Stage 4' is speed. Especially with Maria doing Stage 4' is considerably faster then Stage 4. Even from a speed run perspective, I can do Stage 4' 30 seconds faster then Stage 4, since it's straight shot. Yes, it's less entertaining, but you have to balance it here. There's plenty of more exciting levels then Stage 4 or 4'. And you fight the same boss anyways. That's all.
Well, i say lets people decide if its more funny to go trough stage4 or 4', that why im making a second movie, remember its useless to speak about speed here, since maria go faster anyway, richter IS suboptimal regardless, the stage4' is lame and straightforward, the stage4 is interresting because there is a bunch of traps that i abuse... so i say lets see what people want to have published, not just what you propose, bearing in my mind that richter is suboptimal anyway, so the entertainement value imo is more important than pure speed Abusing key is also a entertainement factor, obviously, that was "creative" to say the least, that why i sticked to it and didnt trow after minotaur .... i wanted to key dracula... thats fun/creative imo, even if you come with a lame faster method to get an axe just when you need it, it may be faster, but youll surelly make it less entertaining than this On the technical side also, i doubt youll realy go faster without it, see one thing deraklon directly spoted is the need to stop to catch hearts... key cost 0 hearts.... that another reason to make the key more likely mandatory (on a speed matter) As reference the werewolf goes 150 frames faster with key than x2hydrostorm (40hearts...) Key have x2 damage output than the whip, and is generaly not nerfed (except dracula/shaft and few others) Also about your 30seconds, its kinda irevelant, i dont think you can do real time anything near what richter do in this movie with the flipback, but anyway

I disagree on this, well, the games are vastly different, also, theres 3 rondo movies in total :p (if not 4... since apparently its a big deal to mr.sirvg to take stage4, im on doing stage4', witch will be WAY less entertaining, of course)

Yeah if you want... whatever Also satoryu, i dont see how more dicky one can be, than be the only one posting, to say "hei, great, i want to see that run", not opening the wip, and after in the bench voting meh for no (tangible) reason, this is IRRITATING... at best

One thing I don't like from the get go is you're using a dirty ISO. I can tell because the BGM is off. Hopefully it won't affect syncing, though it shouldn't because BGM is position based pulled from the disc. (This generally happens when people are using the ISO+MP3/WAV version that went around for years.)
Good try but i have the original cd... so its totaly out of range comment... this is called emulation issue Try never to speculate that much on what people have, youll more likely fail

Stage 2 Notes To my recollection, you can't die from Werewolf's Final Attack, which will drop your life to 1. Nothing major. Also, you should be able to item crash the key, like in CDX, which should get you up higher then what you did. Did you check this?
I have 1 hp .... And whats the point of using crash here? it just make you fly... and ... nothing else... so in others words, since boss death generate lag, i would generate even more If you meant the key crash "jump" higher than flipback, again, wrong speculate EDIT: ok i have 2 hp... not 1... well, if you get hit by the last attack... youll generate WAY more lags than the single frame you would save on the hp counter... thats sure
Sir VG wrote:
Stage 3/4 Notes I'm fairly sure that even for Richter, fighting Dogether and going through Stage 4' and then fighting Dullahan is faster then battling Minotaur and going through Stage 4.
That would assume i can take the elevator (with key...), witch first is not possible, then i made test, minotaur goes faster, but feel free to demonstrate im slower, i would realy like to see that (coz obviously its just a speculation here, and i know its not by that much)
Sir VG wrote:
Stage 7 Notes Getting Shaft's ghost to appear means you have to hit the mid point. It's not time set, so you need to move over faster.
I dont understand what you mean... anyway this boss = so many desync i wont even speak about him
Sir VG wrote:
Stage 8 Notes That last hit on Dracula's 2nd form probably cost more time then avoiding it.
Hum, you realy tryed this? coz i tryed few times and that was looking the best.. now if its not... its the most easy thing to change...

Overall, pretty good. I think it can be improved though. Giving it a MEH.
muhaha, cought, laught at you, come on, improve me, man that was pathetic comment, especially since its a richter run... you just earned a automatic NO/MEH from me to every of your upcoming movies... (im not joking) Next time when you say "overall pretty good" youll think twice to vote meh, anyway, you was like very happy on tg forum and now you vote meh... couldnt have watch a wip and make suggestion... no of course rather wait submission and been an ass So like you im gonna do stupid things, and any of your movie gonna get my meh because, its overall pretty good, but meh...

Okay, thanks for answering my questions. It's all clear now. :) I didn't realize that the numbers of hearts you have determines how many subweapons you can have onscreen. That's really the biggest "Huh?" moment in the movie. Well, that and noticing all the sprites that Konami's reused over the years.
Np dude, feel free to ask anything ;) Also i can agree, the II & III system in this game is silly, they could have make it simplier *will try to update tomorow submission for more readability and review of stages/strategys*

In the first stage, you paused to gather some hearts, but then you threw a bunch of axes away after beating the boss.
It would be very tedious to detail everything in this strategy, if you realy feel the need to find out, you can go on svn and roll out history, the result is quite simple tought: -You need to have 30(+) hearts for the boss, because it take 12 axes, and that in this game II = 20-29 hearts, III = 30-39 hearts, for short if i dont have enought axe the boss goes slower due to less axe on screen -Taking damage this way rather than using the rocks guys is faster, 36 frames, and AFTER boss (this need to watch history to be realy understood) -I waste axes because i obviously dont need them anymore, and i want to reach 0 heart for key / stage2 boss (1 frame gain per heart on the end level counter) -I could have wasted all axes, but the boss death generate lag, ducking in that case remove some lags, so i cant remove lag + waste axe at the same time, so theres a few left at end
Derakon wrote:
Before jumping into the pit in stage 3 you went a bit further left; what was the reason for that?
I wouldnt reaper on right or have the ability to move in the big falling sequence
Derakon wrote:
In the room in stage 4 right after you killed a White Dragon, would it have been possible to damage boost up to the upper area instead of walking the long way around?
I tryed that for hours without any success, if you can do it, your more a man than i am ! :D

After climbing the first room in the clock tower (right after crossing the collapsing bridge), you did a backflip that got hung up on the wall for a bit. I assume this was still faster than walking?
Yeah
Derakon wrote:
The cutscene video (in the cutscene right after killing Death) lags badly behind the sound. Is that an encoding issue or one with the emulator? Same goes for the endgame cutscene, though obviously it matters less there.
Both, first its a screen capture software encode, i dont have linux so i cant encode the "official" way Then for the audio few emulation issues, theres weird things happening (see after the title screen) + desync on dialogues, its very very very minor and near not noticable
Derakon wrote:
Stylistically, it would have been nice if you'd done something else during waiting periods than just using the key over and over again. I don't think we ever got to see Richter complete a backflip, for example.
There was tought... maybe you didnt payed attention ...also mind you.. i dont have anything at my disposal else than flipback, key and moonwalk, i use them all Note : see also bosses death animation does generate lag, toying around is not an option you can only duck to degenerate some of it

I have no idea too ;) Tought i think its a little obvous.. i rather die than become your servant blablabla

No of course it doesnt make him pedophile, it just happen to be the reason why you wont be able to remove the doubt in some people mind He could have remove the doubt, simply by behave more "resonably", i dont think it realy hurted him that much on that matter, i mean, if it was to do again i think neverland would still be there, and some people would still be suspecious...

Not an evidence by itself, but wtf with that neverland... Just because of that anyway you wont remove people suspicions, if he was so much troubled about that (what people think...), he wouldnt had transform it in a amusement park mostly used by ... kids Also it doesnt matter if he got realy condamned or whatever, clearly like stated above OJ wasnt

That something whe are not sure about yet (for the any%), it require some testing before whe realy choose witch stage whe are going to pick up And yeah, KEY = best weapon in game ;) (twice damage of whip!)

Just to give you a concrete compare, richter kill werewolf 150 frames faster with key than with 2 hydrostorm (40 hearts) that was only about 450 frames long... :p He die in 6 hit with the key, witch is ridiculously fast But in stage3 apparently maria goes much faster than richter, so more likely richter will not beat her after all Its just weird to see richter WAY ahead so far (hes still like 6000 frames faster than maria at boss of stage3) The dialog with maria is realy gigantic and troublesome to make estimations

Also remember that you can fast reset by Select + Run.
Yes i remember theres a soft reset, whe didnt finished stage2 for any% yet, so i didnt tested so far if its faster or slower than hard reset (both are available with fm2 anyway) Edit : tested and result is that you cant soft reset in black screen, you can hard reset tought, so hard reset win in the end :p
Sir VG wrote:
As for Richter only, I think that should be done low%, which would be more of a variety then any%. So to do that, you do Stage 0, Stage 1 (alternate boss), Stage 2 (Oarsman Route), Stage 3' (alternate boss), Stage 4' (Normal Boss would likely be faster), Stage 5, Stage 6, Stage 7, Stage 8.
The only trouble i see for this is: the variety WILL come from 100%, since it visit all stages (also, whe plan on reseting at stage6 and not after dracula like you, might need the stage select code, but at the least whe finish with dracula, not in stage5') What i was whilling for richter is to fight werewolf and minotaur, since they are epic bosses reused in many later castlevania Also i dont realy have a choice for stage2, i WANT the key, its going to be a key-run, key does twice damage of whip and remove the heart-management-hassle Need to consider that hydrostorm will need 99 hearts at shaft to be realy efficient, witch i want to avoid coz its slower to catch hearts (and boring to optimize too), the difference is realy noticable in stage2 between heartfull or heartless run
Sir VG wrote:
Good luck. I REALLY want to see a TAS of this, being a fan of the game (and a speed runner of it too).
Thanks, well, the progress can be monitored easly ;) Also, of course whe know your (sda) speedruns, that basicly our reference to work on One thing i was wondering yesterday, it cost like 6000 frames to save maria (1min30), considering the "new" way richter is moving around, i had a doubt that shes realy faster in any%, but well, i guess even with such a big handicap she can overcome richter

For those interrested to watch WIPs of rondo, theres a svn here : http://code.google.com/p/rondoofblood/ (me, adelikat and paul_t are co-author) Just get turtoise or whatever svn client you want, be sure to use FM2 version of mednafen (r226+) Compared to the old run from paul_t theres is tonnes of improvements, also whe are aiming at multi-movie, namely any%,100% and richter runs The point of the richter run is just entertaining value, obviously as soon as you reach maria, the games goes pretty faster with her, even by considering the needed "dialogue", this is why any% and 100% will use her mostly, so whe dont need a "maria" movie (that would just do stage1/2 differently) The runs are going to be high quality i believe, im not going to post on youtube wips coz its too tedious, theres changes/improvements everyday Edit: ah yeah, theres also a bot advertising updates made on the run available at #arukAdo on freenode
