The first attempt did use much more dodging, but actually simply avoiding zombies made me win frames, so i went for the fastest strategy :p For the wurm, its the only part i would change yeah, but, you need to consider that pickup a extra powder also mean to open the menu (pickup + a few frames for mix later) I was mislead by ZENO run, because in jap version apparently he die in 11 rounds, while here he take 12 and still need shooty + hand gun to finish him, it seem this boss at least have less hp for jap Im realy unsure how much time i would have win, because of the pickup involved mainly If in the pharmacy i had 3xA + 3xB i feel the run would have been better ;) For the final boss, i can even get him hit in the first blast, but this doesnt load his death sequence (it seem it doesnt even damage him... logic somewhat since the wall still there after all), this boss dont have hps btw, but, after certain ammount of damage, he will start to go in the middle of the cannon to get shooted at, automaticly, regardless you keep damaging him or not Unless im proven wrong i think version2 of the run is realy optimized and good candidate for tas submiting (well, when the site is fixed and accept my file lol) About the lag/load, i think i would have win even more time if it was realy shorten, tough, need to consider the "fix" is used on 80 doors, mean near 1/3 of the doors have somewhat a difference probably Overall i dont think it realy weighty in the balance, at most its seconds on the run, the first run was 1:12 and pretty much copycat your sda run, the gain come mainly from ultra fast menu ect... well i think Good luck for your run :)

Watch the pxm rather ;) This will tell you everything lol, just replay the shooty room frame per frame and youll see what im talking about :p I did practice for a while in that room to get it right, its a good place to make tests

The best i can suggest is to watch the pxm, but tough, imo, its too tight for realtime (run+dodge, or run&avoid), they was on drug the day they coded this feature, its humanly not doable, surely not for a average player (That what motivated me to make this tas actually lol)

Yup, but hes walking, so its up to 3 frames (well 6...) While running its down to 1 frame Doesnt realy matter your position from the zombie, what matter is the frame where he start to catch you, if your not even moving, you might get an extra frame oppertunity, would be up to 4 (they are slower to lunge at you if your not running, that for sure)

I finished library, pheww! Compared to test run, i loosed 64 frames... tough.. i have potions ready, and much more important... im level4 (28HP) witch mean i can big toss on small skulls in clock tower, witch will save a huge chunk of waiting frames on the fleaguard :p The library was actually much improved (over 4 seconds) and look awesome imo lol, the frames looses are dispatched on the begin, since i needed some adjustement for getting that low level *hope by the weekend its done*

Nah, pistol run i say :p and pwn nemesis :) There is a youtube link on first post, but most likely, you look for the pxm actually (and PCSX-RR if you dont have it already), if you realy want to analyse how im doing frame per frame The dodge system is simple : -If you are running the windows of opertunity (to press R2) is of 1 frames... yeah just one f****** frame... and the number of angle where you come from are limited -If you are walking, depending the angle, 2 up to 3 frames opertunity (edit: for the sake of giving details, you need to make x2, in re3 the game receive 30 input per seconds, not 60) If you are too slow or too fast of 1 frame, you fail The best system i founded : dont dodge, "lurk" zombie, if at the very last moment you change angle (see the video alley behind restaurant) the zombie will not even be able to grab you, this is ULTRA efficient, realy ;) About weapons: equiping no weapon or knife doesnt boost up, only shootgun or grenade launcher will slow you down (5%) This test was made on the straight corridor that connect to pharmacy (small, 6 seconds only), i didnt tryed rocket launcher or custom western tough :p Edit: oh btw, im noob at tasing so im very flatered the sda runner give such a good feedback :)

Not sure what you meant by "easy", but this is definitly not possible real time, i made many real time runs, abusing states or not, timings are just too strict Im not only speaking on preventive potions or toss madness, just a regular jump is a pain in the ass, im not trying to make it look harder than it is, just get a hand on the current pxm and try some rooms, youll see what i mean Ive started my own run now, and i can say theres few frames there and here to win (about 5-10 frames saved on dracula fight for exemple), but the whole run is very difficult to reproduce, most rooms was very optimized

Wanna do it?
Im trying :p There is more factor than it might look like, just the exp (level) is something very complex, especialy if i want to skip richter, i have now a valid idea to pass trough him, the only problem is im not sure how much time it take, it will look very akward if it work :p Now for the obvious errors, i know i dont need 255 antivenon for exemple I still think the fairy will go faster than speak + buy at librarian tough (potions), even if i need to wait poison, the dialogue with librarian take times (and need backtrack...) Overall there is a lot of planning and testing for getting something optimized Another simple exemple, with the leather shield (on your way in begin...), i would have used less menu access, because, it give only +1DEF, witch doesnt interfere with big toss (Alucard shield give +4 or +5 DEF, witch does reduce damage subished, and void some big toss, especialy for keep) Im going to do this seriously and restart fresh, so eventualy i can be lvl3 in library and improve it That might take me a while to finish it, but even if i fail to beat the old time, i guess its suited for gruefood since some people liked the idea, and in any case, i will not end "that" far away from current time like this test run prooved (not like i would sacrifice half the speed for my ideas)

Thanks for those who liked the run/idea :p

I feel scared now. Without the bat relic? Are you planning on submitting this?
.... :/ I would submit if i can beat the time, the point is, it take up to guardian room (end...) for bat to catch with my time If i can skip richter, i might be able to beat it, eventually, with a bunch of luck and optimization, then what, i dont submit a better timer because you scared? Sry guys if i look like jerk, but well, few comments was out of the subject i guess Im not trying to make a different category, else i would say it, and basicly, i would not use half of the current run Now on that matter, if it would be possible to make any other category, im up for the challenge :) i can finish this game in any possible way I can do a speedrun with just 1 relic (wolf) and make it still entertaining (like this one...) or whe could do rather all relics, but that a bit more long run tough (nearly 1 hour)
Captain Forehead wrote:
Like without the wolf or the mist.
The only relic you cant skip whatever you try is the wolf, the only way to remove the wolf from the run is to get the holy glasses from maria The only way to acquire the bat is to get the mist, regardless (or need 2Heart Refresh + duplicator...) Note you can get the mist without wolf, but its tricky, and would loose time anyway

i really think you guys should put the original sound instead of these musics.. or is there a good reason? XD
Just for fun :) but seriously, i cant stand to hear "shshshhshhhshs" anymore (alucard moonwalk) Edit: ha for the record, since noone here will catch it, i use a very very very nasty technique to (un)kill karasuman, the point is if i kill him i will lvlup, i end up with about 45HP, witch brake big toss from fleaman in keep (16dmg = max 32HP... without toadstool at least)

I made my test run without bat relic Its based on the current tas for the first half of the run (http://tasvideos.org/2165S.html) Well, i didnt beated the current tas, but, im actually at the guardian with same frames count Off course its not realy optimized, and i made some errors, overall for a test run, im quite happy of the result Im still not sure what would be the real result, the main problem is i was not able to skip richter dialogue, meanwhile i did got a new idea, but not sure if it will work Anyway even if i skip this dialogue, the biggest trouble is dracula place (just after the video stop), there is 2 gigantic holes to fly in, and with my equipment it would take a while to climb them up Despite its not realy working, this road not so bad imo, and fun thing is i take same amount of relics (4) tough they are differents ones

Its probably not a plugin issue (the freeze/crash) You can try to setup hotkey for hacks (patchs) and try them just before the crash occur, with a little luck, it will get past that point

I think im gonna make some tests on this -No bat run- Good: .no librarian dialogue .no return to central clock (no mist no bat) Bad: .need trusth sword to skip richter dialogue (clock tower knight drop, few more rooms to visit) .need double jump relic near richter (else many places gonna need extra wolf rise, wasting many time) .need big toss for reverse castle keep (huge area to climb up) and anywhere its possible to speed up things (tombstone, chapel corridors ect...), mean need also healing .wolf rise required a couple of time (take long) .slow (no bat...)

there's a proper timing yeah but attacking affects the random stuff too. The shield works as well.
Somehow that wasnt enough for me to get the point, its just about to wait the item "can" drop? theres no address hack to do or whatever?

Multi-core processors do wonders for PCSX2.
I think PCSX2 requirement is dual core, single core cant play anything, they use multi-threads so its no wonder on why it need high performances cpu You need also a decent graphic card (gf4/5/6 is not good)

The most interresting thing is i could save frames from v1 while taking off the shooty in the room you get it, and having only 1 zombie to shoot where in v1 i had 2 in stairs Notice i tryed to get ride of it just dodging, and it take more frames than equiping shooty and kill him :/ This is because you need to push him back to up stairs or knock him down, since i already ko him on first passage, it need several pushes, witch waste many time I use the shooty only in 2 other places. -The mayor statue (2 shoots), this is because i would waste time by dodging 2 times zombies since i need to go back here with the other item (saved many frames from v1 like that). -At the pharmacy (1 shoot) there is a crowd of zombies, theres no way you can do it faster than i did i believe, because getting hit take forever, and generaly you need 2 shoots to take them down, i retryed many time to have them grouped like this and only shoot one time. *need to update first post with zombie kill count* :p
