-- Some infos -- This is my very first TAS attempt ever, be kind :p This TAS use the special Resident Evil Fix Hotkey, witch basicly slowdown the game The use of special fix can be optimized, i was just aiming at making it work, rather than optimizing when to use the fix, i think only a few frames between doors are realy needing it Without the special fix, the game loop between rooms, after the door fmv After much tough, i think the most entertaining run would to fight all nemesis apparances, and limit weapons to handguns only (magnum, beretta, eagle) About 0.1 movie : this was a test run, many mistake and also less ammo resulting much longer boss fights -- Optimization notes --
  • Jill run 5% faster while equiped of handguns (magnum, beretta, eagle, knife) than holding a bigger weapon (grenade launcher, shootguns ect...), i didnt tested with mine trower or rocket launcher, since you should not pick them up anyway
  • Unlike what you can read in several place (gfaq ect...) everything count toward end time, this include menu,door fmv,cutscenes (the small time difference in movie/clear time is probably game startup)
  • The shortcut (take damage) in vapors room save a lot of time, its worthy
  • I founded a bit too late the trick with menu questions (YES/NO), while you cant input X soon (for about 15 frames), you can move the cursor (4frames) and X will become usable that way (total 6 frames), this save around 10 frames in menus and a bit more ingame (item drop ect...), overall a few seconds can be saved that way
  • The jap version can skip completly fmv and text display is shorter; for exemple, droping an item only takes 2 screen of text while it take 3 on usa version, i think the jap version can save between 30sec to 2min
  • The Gamcube/Dreamcast/PC version can skip also door fmv, so if you find a better (human) timer its more likely played on one of those version (roughtly 20min might be saved that way)
  • I didnt determined where the fix is exactly needed and for how many frames, this might be a problem in term of competition, i did noticed some rooms are slow to load while using the fix it will speed it up, i guess the use of fix should be limited stricly where its needed

I have now 482 states and one movie file for every 10'000 frames, its not realy the problem, the problem is i dont trust the loading of state while replaying Edit: anyway im realy near the end now, see the wip in psx forum tomorow probably :D

Loading a savestate seem unsure, with the 2 desync problems i had Im sorry i speak bad english, i meant im using TAB key, and it take very long to crawl 130'000 frame (over 2-3min?) so this is the fastest way ? :( Edit: Theres a good news tough, i was recording with no sound plugin, and i went into a unexcepted trouble, there is a sound puzle in the game :/ so i had to reenable it just for this, and apparently the movie is still sync even with sound (and sync option checked there)

(130'000 frames are VERY long to check in... even with frame advance) To summary, i do about 1000 to 3000 frames, then if i dont replay fully the file (130'000...), im blind and dont know if its broke or not, witch lead to a longer replay than actually recording :|

My fps status also show on the middle of the screen, im using window mode 640x480, with supereagle scretching and dithering So far its an advantage for me, not a problem, can see beter my input :D

On a side note about "collect all souls after defeat boss" Its fun you talk of this because in sotn, theres at least one relic, that a boss is holding, and you can get it without actually fighting him The game is made in a way that if you enter by the door in the boss room, you load the boss If you enter the boss room from another connected adjacent room, in that case, the ceilling, it will not load the boss, but will consider your in the "beated boss" sequence, since only the real door actually load the fight It will let you get the relic like you would have beat him, since you can leave the room after beating the boss without taking the item Botom line yeah, its just a matter to define whats allowed or not, obviously in that case skiping the boss fight and getting directly relic will save time

Mz pretty much summary the good way who i am As a sotn (big) fan, i do defend that video, it hold many good tricks, and deserve some talk, not speaking of this been the first psx submition (witch is a micro revolution in tas world, i believe)

That where you see, the limit stand between perfection and experiments You can see it from many point of view Mine would be, why on the hell they put hundred of collectable items, if the player not suppose to try to get them all Why is there is a ennemy list, same reason, for the player to complete it? Yes or no a question that only the player can answer, if he did like the game, better bet he will play more and try to obtain everything To get all items, all relics, all %, all familiars to lvl99 ect... it take a long time In that meanwhile, i assure you, your more than likely to fall on a bug, even minor... but theres a lot of chances you can fall on one at least Now of course... the wolf glitch to get underfloor... i agree that not something you find just by luck Anyway, this is clear this game was rushed (iga will not say opposite i believe, he did aknowledge on bugs), but its a great game, at first it can look like a classic 5-10 hours castlevania game, but trying to obtain everything ect... youll end up over 20-30 hours (on first attempts i mean) Edit: for the sake of contradiction, see the last psp release, theres a bug on first meeting with death, you dont need anymore to fly trough the room, just to backdash quicly when you enter, this one was finded and on gfaq board like within the hour the game was release, no need to be a veteran to find this one

Because of a stupid (human..) error in my run (forgot item...), i restarded... after all lol V0.0.7 seem to be much more solid So far 15'000 frames, used twice the hotkey resident evil fix, and no desync Is there no chance i can submit a movie with the special fix ?

Well you know, im not realy going to debate on that, they fixed other bugs while releasing usa version, not only the maria meeting, theres many crash in that game, where talking about one in particular, while theres dozen of ways to crash the game I know they fixed it because they fixed some other, now of course if you want to say its luck... well why not after all... but that ridiculous imo (you need to remember this game is very buggy...) The crash was caused by : alucard entering the wrong side of the cutscene, basicly it put him underfloor (maria push him or whatever...) I dont see how the luck can put alucard back on the solid floor.... :/ If that still doesnt convince you, look a bit in the thread, its been sayd already that jap version is way more buggy, i dont believe luck is the responsible for fixing all of them, actually, i think that its much more pragmatic to say they fixed it... themselves

I agree its not annoying on the paper, whats annoying is having to test and crash your file because you saw too late that this door is buggy, and you need to restart a whole block or whatever desync i could ran into, id just like to go to the end of game, its my first tas atempt, i know i will restart anyway, i just want to have at least something i can base myself on for a more "serious" futur run, even if i have to go trough bugs, i have now a near 50'000 frames file and im whilling to finish it I dont even have a real "route" or course of action, i know the game, not "peferctly" but enought to run it, tough i realy need to have some reference if i want to make a "good" run later

Hum, im realy cluless on what to do, i wont redo from scratch at least that sure, i will stick to 0.0.5 i guess, i just aim for a complete run now to have at least a test run Theres is doors 2 or even sometime 3 times per minutes, i will end up enable/disable it nonstop, or just leave it on, witch basicly is the reason i wont restart from scratch, just to activate one key, i prefer the buggy version at least im 1/3 of the run done now (and its third time i do it lol) Also the camera angle lag can appear, hum, like 10 times in the same rooms or more, coupled with door, its realy too much for me to try back and forth with states :D

I have some trouble with the new option resident evil (i have 3 version installed now... if that revelant) It seem to act like its disabled even if i checked the box, the lag are shorter I say that because when i disable shengubattle (or whatever the name) in 0.0.5 or 0.0.6 i get the same lag desync than when its activated in 0.0.7

To access royal chapel normaly (and dont crash the game...) you need to have the door relic, that make you meet maria To crash the game in first jap version you need to come from the opposite way (her back, royal chapel) without having meeted her already (witch is the case, when you shortcut) That clear so far? In usa release, they KNEW you can access coloseum OR clock tower WITHOUT the door relic, THUS you can reach maria from her BACK So they fixed the crash resulting from that problem... they KNEW you can access coloseum or clock tower without double jump... wow ... i never tough would be that complex to explain My point was simple, you sayd it was not intend, i say it was knew ... hence the bug would not have been fixed (if its not intend and impossible....) Now you can interprete as you want, from my point of view, if they knew it, then they agreed to it (and thus fixed the bug...) Edit: removing the candle is probably as easy as to fix a crash, so my argument is very valid

I never sayd that, i sayd they knew about it (after release...), hence why fix maria... if its unreachable... fixing maria only imply you can get there... that all Also, i never saw anywhere i own you any proofs...

I have no idea if it will help, i know it might sound ridiculous, but i founded (for re3 case...) a workaround Switching to 0.5 didnt solved anything So here what i can observe Depending where im in the room, depending if theres a camera change nearby or monster or whatever, sometime (but at very precise instant, and not others, ie, not random) the savestate will insert that frame, while i save, i cant realy tell (except if i tested room already and know "weak" spot) if its good or not, i move few frame ahead, then i reload After reloading, if the state have the extra frame, when i hit space (next frame), all 3D model disapear !! but just in that frame... on next frame... jill is back here... this mean its bad, i need to reload most recent (clean) state If the state is clean and dont have the extra frame, on next frame jill is here and you notice nothing, that mean its good and you can go ahead I know might sound silly, but so far i went 10'000 frame more than my last attempt, and so far i can always get myself away of trouble if i see jill 3D model disapear (zombie ect... also diseaper) Also i tested many time to see if i was not overlooking the problem, to see if that "empty 3D frame" was realy everytime taking down my movie, and its always killing it so far I still cant say what cause it tough, some load spot or something like that

Proof on what? what kind of proof? that the bug exist and has been fixed in usa release ? lol fireup your game and try it youll see You could also argue that the double jump is reachable from clock tower directly... that would lead to the same, you need a wolf high jump or a toss (a trick.. in other words) to get up the stairs in first tower

You took the wrong exemple, since they fixed maria meeting in alchemy laboratory, this was intended actually (else maria would still freeze the game while coming from her back, so they was aware of wolf dive kick and this shortcut) Now whe can argue on if a bug fix would make it canon regarding the rest, i think its not realy important What matter i guess is you cant realy glitch it more than it is already

Well i was arguing on this one, obviously because its me who finded that you can get that lib card this way, but satoryu seem to prefer to stick to his version of "this is not that glitchy" or to play with words (im sorry i dont want to start a rethoric on what is warping or not, in that case, for the lib card, its like a warping, since your not suppose to have it... period) For the sake of clarity, and for those who didnt realy played the game, your nowhere near suppose to finish the game with just bat and wolf and less than 35% (total is 200 not 100) Derakon got a good point tough, shield rod is clearly breaking the game into something ridiculous, 255 dmg several time per seconds.... whatever the hp of the boss he wont stand long, that not very entertaining at first approach I can agree as well on alucard sword, its overpowered The aim here for clairly for speed, imo, not realy for entertainement

Ok, so because Edge travel doesnt allow to move anywhere on the map its a minor glitch ... if that make you feel better lol, why not It enable to hit the library without going by outerwall, if that not enough a warp for ya, nothing will yeah indeed

I dont realy see your point And what you mean by warping anywhere? actually the zip like you say work on any door, so its just a matter of having objectives, now if you meant about 0HP glitch on aos that let you walk anywhere on the map, this is also possible in sotn... but still i dont get the point... since in aos it doesnt help speedruns As for the run been last save room instead of final blow on dracula, blame konami, they forgot to update the timer at last save... how could you even show a final time since its not stated anywhere... now with PCSX since you have frame count... its possible (and make sence) KDR: I think the move you speak about is call Edge Travel, long story for short you can move behind the walls http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jDPkewo1W0 The way its made on the speedrun is a bit more hard to perform (using level up) but its the same concept

Just a quick message to say i could go beyond the "point of no return" in RE3, it seem that option pretty much fix the whole problem, i use nosound plugin and 0.6 I could make replay work, and it seem i have no sync problem so far (i could replay up to after the "point of no return") The game does suffer from lag tough (slow camera angle change and such), but i believe its a emulation issue and not from the tasing system In previous atempts (no magic option turn on, v0.5) it was faster, i guess i have to choose between lag and not working, i prefer lag But anyway, it work !!!! omg what a breath (realy i tryed hard before!) Thanks mz, great work ! Edit: ha, now that im much more farther in the game, im facing some problem looking the same as described by atma, i have a blank frame between some savestates, witch desync some parts of the run, *wonders about retrying with 0.5 and magic option OhO*

You can finish the whole game just with the wolf relic, its the only one you realy need regardless the objectives, but, the problem is that your gonna be very slow, overall it take less time to get the bat (like in this tas i mean) than to go ahead with wolf, because in the inverted castle, without bat, its realy a lot of troubles The bat not necessary to skip richter, just the wolf is needed Picking up the double jump in keep would help, but doesnt solve the real problem, with multi wingsmash you go so fast i highly doubt you can compet in the end
