So now that its become a TAS-only catagory, has anyone thought of doing a low% TAS? I think it has certainly some of the most wtf out of the three catagories.
Also in my opinion Dual Boot Windows/Linux FTW
Sucks that GBT boss key is really simple and quick to get. It might not save any time or the time saved might as a result might not be worth the extra explosive load :(
I dont see why not. Most subtitle formats can have subs appear and disappear on set frames and Displaying a few letters shouldnt be too taxing on the cpu.
The program is another story. Seems like it might have to be attached to the emulator to function properly
Well we wouldn't have that many bombchus to spare unless we buy some and have to get pretty high off the ground so bomb hovering would be pretty slow
Kinda depends on how much time getting chus would waste
I thought about a way to change the route that would allow having bombs when crossing the desert, but I ran into a problem with the bean. Is there a way to skip it or maybe not planting the bean and working through the temple would still save some time
I doubt it though because you also lose time waiting for night to change to day so you can move talon and probably have to listen to the owl in order to talk to malon to get the egg unless there is also something to skip that
Sorry Im working on it, but I get really picky with optimization and move rlly slow. If I dont make much more progress soon, Ill just post the first world to youtube
At some point will the project add support for the TAS input plugin or something like it? At least the windows trunk doesnt support it as far as I know.
You should actually use www.vimeo.com. Its a good site unless you frequently post videos because there is a 500 mb a week limit, but other than that there are no restrictions on length or anything. It is much much better quality than youtube and even lets other people download the original video that you posted if they want the full quality version.
Can you do this when starting the superslide off an item? Ive tried but so far I havent gotten it to work not even off a bomb/enemy because link always tries to pick up the item.
Maybe if you go far enough away that the item unloads
Also how did you did that zig-zag thing?

This glitch is awesome great one Comical. Should rlly optimize OoT movements because even though its slower than superslide, its still faster than sidehopping(too bad its not as precise). As for long distances, you can chain stuff together like this.

Nice to see people commenting on my run :D. I listened to MiraiGen's and it was interesting to hear comments from somebody as they watched the run and to hear what they think. What could have made it more enjoyable from my perspective is somebody that has a bit more OoT experience, so that they can pay closer attention and point out more detailed things throughout the run. I felt like it was somewhat dead for most of the commentary but it wasn't too bad overall. I guess as the TASer it's more enjoyable to hear mostly comments on the actual tricks/glitches rather than mostly humor. I'm currently downloading Comicalflop's, can't wait to see how it goes.
I've actually considered doing the commentary that Swordless Link mentioned on the earlier page. The idea he brought up was that I made a commentary on the run that talked about the circumstances of each certain part of the run, what was considered where, how things were manipulated, why were things done, etc.. It'd be a test of myself to see what details I can fit in throughout the commentary, and I'm guessing it'd be interesting to a number of experienced OoT players. Nevertheless, it was just an idea, so I may/not do it, probably depending on what people think.
I vote for that option.
Resounding second on that vote

The game does have less lag so you'd technically be able to beat it quicker.
Is there an N64 version? Id always assumed MQ was a gamecube only version.
Also Ive never played MQ so I wouldnt know, but would an all-temples TAS for MQ be worth it?

RBA takes the value of whatever you have on B, (the normal methods of RBA put some bottled item on it) and writes it to the thing that the item on C-right "points to."
In this case we would put the broken goron's sword to C-right and change the value of the item on B in order to edit how many medallions we have

Much like Goldeneye, but better. Or the opposite of Blast Corps. Anyways, I was asking because there was a very long period where the game ran at 30 FPS, in a segment that I did not recall having as much lag from any previous WIP.
I think the part you mean is the part in the area with the two costume pieces. I didnt notice it then but for some reason it really lags the game Im going to try different camera angles and zooming in to avoid this, but will a drop in framerate count against my time?

I was asking about the fastest gold card because in your WIP you enter the stage and do the 100% themed gold cards first. Are you going to get the fastest card next? If you are, I recommend to do what BoMF and woodendoorknob did and do the fastest time card first, because showing the fastest route first then the more impressive 100% route has better flow. A fast completion followed by a full completion I personally think is more entertaining, rather than doing a stage fully and then redoing just to collect the last gold card. (this is not counting those stages where it's possible to grab all gold cards in one go.)
I already thought of that because its faster to get the upgrades from the fastest time card part than the 100% like I did, but you are right about the stylistic part as well.

Also, I'd like to reiterate that the vast majority of the runs on the site probably have a method for resetting that will skip the intro, and very few do. The ones that do, everyone can still watch. I think on an emulator where the final movie won't work for everybody, you should shoot for maximum viewer capability, and include a savestate in the submission so that people can skip it if they so choose.
Are you allowed to pack savestates with submissions? Also Ive decided to continue without skipping the intro and am going to redo this level

While everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I don't believe the people who voted meh and no should have made their vote without watching the whole movie. Without watching the entire run, you cannot make an honest judgment on the run. If you didn't like what you saw then you should say so, but not belittle this amazing run by voting against its publication without seeing it in its entirety

The problem with the record reset mupen is that in Linux, the reset command forces the emulator to close (so DeHackEd tells me.) That's many viewers/encoders who miss out, and the emulator patch itself hasn't been accepted at the site yet.
Generally, runs that use a reset to skip the intro are few and far between. I know of two: DKC3 (all of the recent versions of snes9x have record reset fully working) and Gunstar Super Heroes (the game itself allows a button press sequence, much like NES up+a on 2nd controller, to reset without using the rest feature of the emulator- even though VBA itself has soft reset.)
I recommend that you don't use resetting, and include the savestate in the submission. Most people know how to load savestates. Rules wise, you'd be making a full run with an emulator that is not accepted at the site.
How much faster is your WIP? Did you get the fastest time gold card and the other cards (the hidden ones + 30 enemies) in one go?
I noticed lot of lag; can you maybe experiment with the angle and distance of the camera to try and reduce lag?
Well Id like to hear from a judge because i cant go back to hex for some reason. Ive ask bisqwit and he says
<Bisqwit> If windows don't close, and the end result is that the emulated devices that are reset on the real hardware when the game is reset, are also reset on the emulator, and nothing else, it's fine
it doesnt close on my computer but since it does on linux like you said ill have to look into it
You cant get all five cards+2 costume pieces in one go for the first level, not even with TAS techniques, but id imagine some level i will be able to.
As for the lag, I think some of it is because the napalm plugin is hardware intensive, but I think zooming in might help

Well it does if I use the Mupen with reset recording.
Unfortunately I will have to restart the TAS from scratch now, as this method screws with the enemy placement in the first level or something and I cant hex it in :(
