that's awesome your soo deticated and all, but what about a patch for Mame32 ?? 90% of all playing Arcade roms uses Mame32.
That may be, but I don't have convenient access to a Windows machine so I can work on Windows-only programs. Advancemame is cross-platform, the closest I could come. Sorry.
hey no problem, eventually someone will make a patch for Mame32. :)

Yeah, new stuff is happening, I'll give a summary here. I put up a webpage so I don't keep bumping the topic every 5 minutes with minor changes. I'm pretty sure I have the rerecording part all worked out. The only reason games desync should be that savestates aren't properly implemented. (Savestates are a relatively new thing, there was a long debate about whether to include them in MAME, so most games don't have proper support yet) As far as I can tell, I have NeoGeo savestates fixed. Gradius desyncs occasionally on me, and I fixed savestates for Karnov, the grandest arcade game of all time! Now for the patch thing, I'll put the patched source on my website in a few minutes, but I'd like to figure out if I'm generating patches wrong or something. Are you getting the source through CVS, shakespeare?

Plus, compiling it would be interesting... I don't have a working installation of Windows right now :S I went over to the mame32 website, and I find it curious that the source code distribution is only shipped as an .exe installer o.O (fwiw, advancemame is supposed to build on Windows) I'll try to take a look at it tonight or tomorrow, no promises on making it till I check it out though.
Okay thanks, making a rerecording patch for Mame32 would be so awesome!! and something thats not been done before, i really really hope you get it done, cheers:)

are arcade speedruns played on arcade machines?
Not really, unless you have the money to buy a really expensive machine and then take the machine apart and mod VCR recording into it (probably deemed illegal, plus you waste thousands of dollars every time you mess up). I'm sure that no such mod exists.
thats for sure that would be way to hard and expensive, emulators are perfect for recordings and fair easy to get online.
