I prefer this play through because Kraid and Ridley are still alive to appear in Super Metroid. I remember being super angry when I played Super Metroid and these two bozos were still alive. I punched my TV screen and broke my hand. Anyway, my only criticism of this otherwise incredible play through is that Mother Brain died and therefore would not be able to show up in Super Metroid. I'd love to see a new run where Samus skips Mother Brain altogether thus preserving continuity in the series.
LOL :)

This last week has been an annoying series of 'this should work' followed by 'nope, there's this tangential problem'. Seriously, I should probably be keeping track of a list of failed ideas, this is getting ridiculous.
All thanks to that solitary Nintendo game designer whose name is credited in black letters only; working after hours on the code to fortify the game's defenses. The battle of the wills has begun...

I used a very minor trick. Wait until the CPU is at a good stopping point. All the other threads can step by an opcode or less, so to prevent them from desyncing the CPU again, I temporarily suspend processor synchronization.
If I understand it correctly, it also means that advancing the game frame-by-frame wouldn't be as easy to implement as in other emulators. Or it'll be "sync point" based instead of "frame" based.

Video in the last link was too choppy thanks to Youtube not liking my encoding format. Here's the fixed version: youtube.com/watch?v=tn2HHRqzwCk EDIT: Argh, it's still choppy?

DOSBox should also be able to get ZSNES' sound system going.

re: ROM problems Filename extension should not matter, same with header/no header. The important bit is the checksum - the correct one is included in the SMV and it should be D63ED5F8. Use NSRT. Anyway, definitive YES vote. :)

The dimensions above are 256x 240 pixels, which I assume is often used when encoding most NES and probably SNES runs.
Well, the SNES can display 224 lines in NTSC mode, 239 in PAL mode. (Videos in the latter format could just center the logo.) And it gets stretched horizontally to a wider 4:3 resolution on the TV and on YouTube.

By the way, is there work done on the savestate or the movie file formats? And is this merged with the "main" SNES9x branch? (I don't know if they're still working on it...)

I've experienced desyncs with some SNES9x-generated AVIs: The frame rate was exactly 60 fps but the audio data was slightly less than required. The fix would be increasing the fps rate to match the audio length (easy in VirtualDubMod, but not desirable), or stretching the extracted audio to match the video length & then re-inserting it.

OTOH "feels faster" is a hard thing to measure.
Hence the voting system?

I think you meant to say "lossless" instead of uncompressed. There are plenty of compression formats for lossless video.
Yeah - I didn't know that you can disable the lossy compression in these formats...

A great lossless codec I recommend is Lagarith. It's a very fast one, and still achieves one of the best compression values. Ideal to use for ripping through Snes9x and editing with VirtualDub before encoding into a fully compressed file like XviD or x264.
Thanks, I'll try that. Btw. very nice video and music, hero of the day. :) Especially at the last fight against Mega Mother Brain.

It would be pretty cool to be able to use SNES9x as a frameserver, without the detour of temporary files. :) "Weave" works best on uncompressed videos. Also, see this thread. ... haven't seen the new video yet, but am planning to.

Emulators don't care about the ROM file extension - but "smc", "swc" etc. are abbreviations of copier names, while "sfc" means "Super Famicom". It's also used by NSRT.

Seconded. Very enjoyable run. :)
