Games with replay files like Doom are a major example of TASs that don't use any emulation.

Does GBA tasing even support MP? Only portable system tas I know of with two players is the Pokemon co-op diploma run.

Glitching to all the legendary Pokemon that can be found on the field would be interesting post-game add-on, but unless the caught Pokemon are used, I'd keep it in post-game.

Rockman 2, Bionic Commando, Metroid and Super C are relatively new (last two years, so should be under accurate enough emulation) starred runs that 1: Have no verification yet 2: Are under half an hour 3: For a system that I know can be verified. One or more of the four may have already failed verification attempts

Is the code even used for anything besides moon jumping? Most of the run looks like the same old (very laggy) MM3 aside from the player being able to jump high on demand. Are there any unique skips (ect) this enables, or does this just save a few seconds switching to rush coil every so often and make ladders faster? I'm of the opinion that any competitive branch for RT runners merits a TAS branch, as part of the point of TAS is to show the theoretical best time possible. However the only two controllers run on the megamanleaderboards site linked above shows this category is so unpopular only a single run is known, and that's old enough its time isn't in the DB and it's a full 4 mins+ slower than the codeless run. That suggests it's considerably less than competitive.

The bit I could stand watching looked well done, but the game itself does not agree with my eyes and I can't watch it in full.

Pokemon isn't a battery save: The battery is only for the internal clock in RSE. It's perfectly possible (indeed, now common after nearly two decades) for cartridges to have a dead internal battery (and thus stuck clock) but still save fine. FRLG has no battery at all. Here's a page with internal pics of the cartridges. https://chieftain20.wordpress.com/2014/05/17/complete-guide-to-authentic-gba-pokemon-games/ From what a quick search digs up, the same type did indeed vary rather extensively for GBA.

"was still limited to a Japanese release." is a bit inaccurate. Only the Famicom version is Japanese exclusive (and going by GameFAQs is the only Japanese release).

Non-battery memory was in use by at least GBA. It seems "brick" is now used to include something that is recoverable with external resources but presently useless, at least in current usage.

The recent Harmony of Dissonance submission warns against using a particular glitch on real hardware because it can brick the system if it triggers the wrong memory address and activates a demo version flag. Got me wondering if there's any other game cartridges that can be bricked purely with internal glitches. I figure it would have to be some game that actually has save data or specialized hardware on cartridge that can be damaged through some software issue (while I know NISA has screwed up badly enough that at least one of their translations had a bug that can damage the console, this is about bricking games, not the system).

I don't mind the late reply. Shame not that much is known about the result. I was asking about games brickable with glitches in general, not just CV ones.

The most broken Castlevania game gets even more broken! Yes for sure. If this seems a little long for such a broken game, note that gameplay starts at 1:23 and effectively ends at 4:17, so only 3:16. edit: Any other games that can be bricked by memory corruption? Can you elaborate on the "demo version flag"?

I thought the level 11 glitch was actually fixed in the Japanese release and the reason TASes didn't use it was the warp glitches were fixed. Why doesn't a warpless just use the fixed version? Am I misremembering or are there even more glitches fixed that would make it slower even without the game over?

I think "DeeJ%" or just "DeeJ" would be a better name. It's a good run aside from the battles, which use an attack with a really annoying visual repeatedly. The repeatable conditions and limited number of passwords make it seem like a reasonable branch.

At this point you might be thinking that DK can just walk through any wall at will. Well, yes, that's kinda true.

I enjoyed it. Do all the important glitches work on the Japanese version? That would remove the problem with the voice acting. If it syncs on a undub that would also work.

Well the video seems おまちください competent on all technical levels (though I don't know the game) but おまちください as with all rpg runs its quite おまちください boring to watch, especially with all the おまちください loading times. Solid vault. Also really early example of "random" encounters that are actually visible on the field.

OK, so it was just easier to strength elesewhere. Would getting the coin in the prison chapter and RNG manipulating to give a +3 might bonus when forging the supersword have been worth the speed loss in getting it and extra menus? It seems like it would have let Edward kill the boss next chapter without Nolan and that tiger at the end in one round at least.

I noticed you don't bother getting strength on Micaiah. Do you not forsee using heavier tomes with her?

A TAS with submission notes longer than the movie file.

[1899]GBA Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance (USA) "Maxim" in 00:22.73 by Yuzuhara_3 [1145][Fastest Completion]Genesis King's Bounty (USA/Europe) in 00:09.93 by gia & Aqfaq. Ideally they'd have an explanation in their description explaining what just happened (whip launch and perfect RNG) but they're fine as is.
