[1899]GBA Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance (USA) "Maxim" in 00:22.73 by Yuzuhara_3 [1145][Fastest Completion]Genesis King's Bounty (USA/Europe) in 00:09.93 by gia & Aqfaq. HoD Maxim mode is worthy of being recommended for newcomers on top of that. King's Bounty may be too, though it should have a bit added a bit to the description (find map pieces, find treasure, instead player is extremely lucky and the treasure is at the starting location). There are faster movies on the site, but all of the shorter ones (as far as I know) are either very simple or have no cap on input speed (Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy).

Fire Emblem on Hector Hard with all units recruited, all gaiden chapters played and 5 stars in all rankings. That should differ enough from standard TAS of the series which is just throne/rout rush.

Thanks. I thought it was something like that but didn't see an explanation in this or any previous comment.

Could this be improved by holding Y before power on? The run wouldn't contain a y press then, just a y hold.

Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis has some interesting qualities. First of all the full ending requires a speedrun, though 25 hours is stupidly generous for an actual run. Just from casual experimentation with savestates, it's clear the game has a very abusable clock-tick based RNG. The biggest one however is that ANY non-boss unit aside from a few special classes can be convinced to join the party right from the start of the game. The odds of this working are terrible outside of the most ideal conditions, but as mentioned the RNG is easy to abuse. This should give easy access to high level units in good classes and raises the max level of fresh recruits (if the run can afford the cost of them)

Wouldn't just "Challenge Mode" be a better branch name?

No. Extremely unoptimized looking and boring besides. I would however like to see someone do a two-games-one-input TAS of Tetris and Dr. Mario. I was hoping this was one when I clicked the submission.

Is there any good resources for explaining the left+right on staircase glitch? It's a very (visibly) blatant trick with no clear entry from the viewer side that's not really known outside of TASing and key to the entire thing. LttP isn't known for being a game with crazy level of glitches (like Gen 1 Pokemon) and I've seen lots of comments for embeds have no idea what's going on. If there isn't (and possibly even then) it would be good for a Game Resources page that can be linked easily. We, surprisingly, don't have one for LttP yet.

The commentary mentions the text difference between JPN v. English being the Japanese text being smaller text boxes. This is actually an unusual case since it's not purely due to language differences. The English script itself is actually extremely bloated (like one word becomes multiple sentences). Would like to see a 100% run (all Djinn, all psyenergy items and all three transfer data events) eventually. I understand that would be a lot of work though.

The Wii U virtual console releases of the series all use modded roms that give the player all unobtainable chips (opposite version+event only) just by accessing the communications menu. These are generally stupidly OP for early-mid game (even late if you can consistently manipulate them to appear). Thoughts on using them? I'm guessing it would only be acceptable to use this for a 100% run that obtains them after the credit roll or when they're the last thing needed.

Enjoyed it. In-bounds movement is on the slower end of TASed castlevania runs but what can you do? What's NKT mean? It shows up a lot in the niconico comments of the temp embed when the ending starts.
It's a meme that means (IIRC) "It was a long and challenging adventure." It's making fun of how short Castlevania TASes tend to be due to the glitches and movement tech. The other one that commonly shows up is shouting IGAAAAAAAAAAA when IGA's name appears in the credits.
Thanks. I understand a little Japanese, but this kind of thing is far beyond my understanding.

Well it is a competitive RTA category. I am always fond of TAS showing what's the "perfect" version of a category for RTA to try for. Is the final boss what the final boss would look like in an optimal minimum spatula run, or some moves used here not obtainable/time efficient to obtain in a no-cheats minimum spatula run?

Wow, I'm shocked something like Doppler Attack actually got included in a console game. More surprising is the fact that, as far as I can tell from the submission comments, there are no huge bugs with it, just that you can do crazy things when pairing it with pixel perfect movement.

An online service could theoretically be emulated/simulated, though it'd probably be a lot of work.
Some DRM bypass is done by faking the signal from the program or activation server it depends on for DRM. This generally never involves actual servers, just local control, to my knowledge. Actual emulation of an online service has been done, mostly for dead MMOs. More relevant for this site's interest, the DS/Wii's Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection has been emulated (or at least was in testing phase when I saw it years ago).

At the time of its creation a TAS run was the only known run of any kind to complete VVVVVV's no death mode (though this has since been accomplished by human hands apparently). From the looks of it the hardest difficulty used in this Princess Pitch Run has yet to be completed by humans. Are there any other TAS runs that clear games on a particular difficulty setting that no human has been documented beating?

Late reply, but wrong warp or arbitrary code could do it. As far as I know there's no indication either exists in SM64, let alone in a non-upstairs area and even if it did exist would have to be faster than just getting the key (outside of a demonstration) which is pretty quick at this point.

Speaking of that run cheating to get the version exclusive chips and go for 100% completion: Would using the Wii U virtual console ROM, which has a feature to unlock version exclusive chips in the opposite game (go the multiplayer screen then leave, they're now all in your pack), be accepted? It's an official release, though never meant to be played outside of one very specific emulator. If it is fine, a run aiming at moons should wait till the very end to do it instead of destroying everything with OP chips early.

I'd say this movie is a good candidate for next TASbot showing if it can be console verified.

How about a run of the Goldfinger 64 romhack? It's pretty complete and definitely distinct from the original, plus it will run on original hardware. Nothing to really work on speedrun wise though as nobody has run it yet.

Cutting Room Floor user AgileTek has found a glitch in the original Japanese release that allows skipping Camlon
A glitch in the original Japanese release allows visting most of the locations in Nanai, though the item shop remains inaccessible. In the first release, if the player skipped Camlon one of the Nanai guards that is supposed to be impassable is incorrectly set to wander instead of stand still, allowing the player to visit a Nanai mostly free of guards.
I did a quick run (using the infinite money and one shot kill cheats to make it go quicker, but I really doubt that causes the glitch) and successfully reached Windia without issues. As the user notes this saves some time on a speed run. The current run spends just under 6 minutes in Camlon. Losing the levels and equipment gained will slow the rest of the run down a bit, but I really doubt it won't be a net gain.
