I don't like the game and the first version of the run was not so mind blowing due to some inaccuracies (I think, this game is not easy to tas though). But this run is so much better and elegant (3-1 comes to my mind), that it makes a great addition to the N64 tases. Clever solutions and nice glitches. Great work making an entertaining movie with a game, I never liked to play, adelikat. Yes vote

Thanks for the info Raiscan. Tails' normal form is ok. He has the abilities from most original games, special jump and special ability like the other three characters. The tail attack is not that great, but comes in handy tas-wise, as one often encounters situations, in which the character runs with high speed towards an enemy. I assume that tails doesn’t lose velocity while attacking, compared to jumping and rolling, so this is a plus. But I absolutely agree about the super form to be enhanced. I already disliked the killall move from super mighty and shadow, as its use it very limited when being invincible. Having to aim now, while speeding through the level somehow kills the purpose of the superforms. I now understand why sega gave tails the flickies as super form, as it is hard to think of different abilities for each character, when the level goals are so simple: Get from A to B, collecting rings and not getting hit by enemies. The first two somehow useful abilities which come to my mind are: 1. Some downward thrust while doing the heli-thingy, since his vertical movement is so limited while spinning. This might also motivate people to not just fly over levels. 2. Since Tails will mostly fly over levels, he will also not collect many rings. Shooting enemies could be rewarded with some 5ish extra rings. This is meant as constructive critisism. The hack and the new character are awesome.

In order to speed up the publication process, I want to mention, that by obsolescing the published movie, the last genesis entry in the Lowest technical rating will be deleted, proving apodictically for once and for all, that gens tasers are not only more beautiful and sexy, but also the better tasers ;)

Obvious yes vote. I usually watch improvements simultaneously with a second emulator. While it is often useless, as improvements are barely noticeable, comparison was impossible this time, as you defeated the second boss before the first one was destroyed in the old movie :) Great improvement and very enjoyable watch, good job! I already stated my worries in IRC, that inexperienced viewers might be pampered by the fast action in the first levels compared to the autoscrollers later on (which upthorn handled very well) and so suggest to also watch the old movie to not miss the great variety of well executed improvements.

Good run, DDRKhat. It shows the different levels much better. It also makes me jealous, how many rings one can collect by going the intended route :) While Mighty is a good character for beginners or explorers (shadow for cheating, sonic for speed), imo it is very hard to make speedruns with him. Much route planning is required as most shields are not on the path, so one has to deliberate about if and which shields to take and which route to take out of the many resulting possibilities. Also, I think he is way underpowered (Sonic > Shadow > Mighty). His normal form is somehow useful, as long as you collect shields (of which the right one never seems to be available), but his superform is plain weak. He still has to gather shields and in the case he really got them all, he just got the movement abilities super sonic already had (I never played super sonic in the megamix, but I assume he even has diagonal dash, which makes him again better). The additional kill-all move does not make up for it, as its use is very limited due to invincibility. On top of that, the very useful flame shield dash, is already available for sonic (great for tases). The run itself is well done and I don't think it is worth to improve it, as the hack might be upgraded again. However, I wonder how a super sonic run might look like, as his abilities are perfectly suited for the problematic misty maze zones (=labyrinth zone).

I didn't consider this until now. I did some testing and I couldn't exit the level earlier. By throwing, the hitbox becomes more narrow, but seems not to move more backward than the normal hitbox. Also Mickey's extended arm does not trigger the exit. I guess, it is not triggered by the hitbox, but by passing a certain point. Thanks for the hint, though.

I just wanted to ask, if we can expect more awesomeness from this game. Needless to say, the WIP looked amazing.

Good game choice and well executed. yes vote edit: I didn't pay enough attention, but didn't you die once? (just for the description text) edit: Nevermind. I didn't know falling into a pit only costs some HP, not a life.

r0xm2n and Raiscan, thanks for your great support and help (especially Raiscan for encoding questions). You helped to finish the run faster and with more precision. Comments: About shadow: IMO shadow is not the explorer, as described at the sonic retro page. That role suits Mighty better, as you are granted additional stamina and moves for exploring the map for shields (in this case you usually have enough rings to perform the shield swap). I think it is better to use shadow to avoid the level layout by taking upper routes and jumping over obstacles. It seems to me also, that some abilities contradict each other. Compared to sonic, his normal form is very weak (sonic is overpowered anyway imo), so getting the emeralds is the most reasonable with shadow. Therefore you need the 50 rings at the end of the stage, which is difficult, as you hardly get rings while flying over the level and on top of that his dash costs 5 rings. This prize is very high, considering, that he has the least floor contact, due to his double jump, especially since sonic's dashjump does pretty much the same, is executable on the floor and air and is for free (however shadow's dash DOES benefit from sprint shoes). On the other hand, his super form mostly outperforms the ones from the other characters (at least taswise), due to the seemingly unlimited acceleration and the resulting ability to glitch through the level. The downward dash is the only thing, that he misses. Interesting facts for tasing: - while the height of the first jump can be controlled, the vertical velocity of the second jump is fixed - the ability to roll into a ball mid air is essential, as it allows to perform the double jump, hits enemies and can decrease upwards movements (earlier floor contact after springs) - unfortunately the bounce after a homing attack can not be controlled, however it very often resets the ability to double jump (not bosses) - I still don't know why, but during sunset hill zone the speed addresses B018 (horizontal), B01A (vertical) and B01C (general), changed permanently to D010, D012 and D014. I was never able to use the first addresses again - to reach the high velocities in the super form, A needs to be autofired, not held (which isn't fun due to constant lag) - as long as he is fast enough, shadow can break item boxes by running through them (this partly makes good for the ugly running animation) -the sprites always on top option makes it a lot easier to detect hidden item boxes, springs and the annoying drill enemies in misty maze zone - misty maze zone (= labyrinth zone) lags as hell About the run: - I didn't aim for complete perfection, as the hack is still on progress, making a run only temporarily important. Especially the first 3 zones were played rather sloppy. - did not test many routes for the special stages - using the s-slopes would probably have been faster than jumping over them in sunset hill 2 and 3 - The route for the second emerald was not only copied from upthorn, it was performed worse - upthorn's glitch in the second act seemed not to work as good for shadow, so I didn't include it. There is also a second possibility before the 1st boss - many levels except for sunset hill and city outskirts have roofs above the screen to prevent skipping parts - ring collection routes for dark fortress zones were the worst - shadow (and probably other characters as well) can't run on top of platforms with a fence below in the city outskirts zones - I needed to slow down in starry night 2. there seems to be a lot of glitching potential there due to the high speed, however it only happened arbitrarily and always in the wrong direction. I bet nitsuja could rape these parts - the pushing block trick in metallic base zone (=scrap brain), was not possible. however the first one pushes shadow in the upper platform, which unfortunately only enabled glitching to the left - all routes for metallic base 2 seemed to be about the same length, so I just took the route with the fastest 50 rings collection - for metallic base 3 I still don't know if this route would have been the fastest. The other one would have had enough rings for the super form, but much longer (also very late transformation) - with hindsight, I agree, that making the last hit on the end boss would have been better. I'm sorry about that @ r0xm2n: To be honest, I didn't check for glitches at the bridge during the run, but it sounds very likely, that you are right. Maybe I will check on this. If I find a way, I will post it. Great find, thanks. PS: Youtube link to the run is in my previous post

5 of 6 stages done I used more precision for misty maze and starry night zone (= labyrinth and starlight zone) now, which led to more glitching. Super shadow and his unlimited acceleration start to pay off. However, at the end of act 2 in starry night zone, I had to slow down, as shadow constantly broke through loops and walls (unfortunately in the wrong direction). Set camera to extended before watching.

I'm doing a little test run with shadow, getting all emeralds. It is not completely optimized, since the hack is not finished. This is the run until the 3rd boss beaten (thus featuring super shadow at the end). I'll propably comment it later. EDIT: Like DDRKhat's and upthorn's movie, the camera has to be set to extended before.

Wow, I just checked Mega Man X4, X5, X6 and they synched perfectly. Great job DeHackEd and Valarnin! I played all of them about 15 minutes past several loading screens, but never got any problems playing them back. I used: Graphics: Pete's D3D Driver 1.76 Sound: P.E.Op.S. Dsound Audio Driver 1.9 Controller: N-Rage Plugin 0.95 Cdrom: Mooby 2 cd disk image driver 2.8 Bios: Internal HLE Bios These are however the first plugins I tried, so I think others might work as well. I always loaded through bios, but I could later also replay these movies loading the ISO normally. Problems I stumbled upon: - when browsing for the movie file, the program did not recognize them, thus not showing them in the window. However manually typing it into the field loaded them properly - MMX4 was an ISO, so this message came up: "The plugin does not support ISO-9660 images. If this is a binary image, rename it with a ".bin" extension." It still loaded it without having to rename it (which I actually didn't) - when choosing to load/save a state, there seems to open the "open image" window, like the one to load a game. Thus I could not use this feature neither when playing normally nor while recording Please consider this as help, not criticism. Again, amazing work! Thanks EDIT: Mega Man 8 and Resident Evil Director's cut dual shock edition synch too. EDIT: Crash Bandicoot desynchs very soon. Looks like we can only tas Capcom games :)

The second one is "New Design" from Thousand Foot Krutch Towers are much more efficient, when the way from one entrance is longer, so the two waves pass the towers at different times. This might be obvious and well known to most of You, but I still see videos and pictures of people who don't use this to their advantage, so I thought I mentioned it here. (I still suck at this game)

Generally the movie looked well played to me. There were only some rare occasions, which I didn't understand yet: 1. Sometimes, Kirby is right in the middle of a door, when he enters it. Could the rocket/wheel animation be cancelled earlier? 2. Does horizontal/vertical velocity decrease, when the rocket flies diagonal and is the handling that bad? It sometimes looked, as if Kirby could have flown nearer to the corners. However, I never played this game, so I'm the wrong one to judge this. The rest looked well executed and entertaining. PS: Thanks for providing an already encoded video

O_O That is already a very useful result. Can this tool only be used for sonic 3D blast, or also for other games?

I admit that watching the movie sometimes gave the impression, that some parts were not played with enough accuracy, mostly the way AKA already pointed out. Still, I enjoyed the movie very much and watched the whole thing without fast forwarding (except for parts, I already saw in the WIPs). Good job, xenos I give this a yes vote, which is, however, greatly influenced by the fact, that I loved to play this game years ago.

Hm, i'd love to see a redone version of this game. However, don't rush for it unless you are able to do a proper route planning. It has been some time, that I played B.O.B. and I can't remember the Items laying on the way, pickable without time loss. So plan both, health and items several levels in advance. Don't get me wrong, I really like to see a new movie, am glad you want to do it and encourage you to achieve this. I just want to avoid the situation, that you are stuck in level XX, because you would have needed that one more spring from the 10th level before. Unfortunately I can't give you any advise, but wish you good luck! PS: I don't know the exact rom rules. But if there starts a discussion about which rom to use, count in a (U)-vote from me.
