the problem is probably game related Fba is really unstable with some games and will sometimes corrupt savestates, if it suddenly stops being able to load a game, restarting the computer can fix it

idk, this seemed really slow to me I'm not sure I agree with using a sub-optimal character as an objective. it would be different with a game like smb2us where the characters have different strategies or street fighter, because there is at least one thing dan is best at meh from me

you need to start recording a movie first. so go to file/record movie when you play back a movie file you can use shift+8 or open read-only button. Then when you restore a save state it will start recording there are some helpful articles here http://tasvideos.org/TASHowTo.html

if it's a game like sf2 then you can't really do an MK Walker if both players are in frame advance normals can be kara canceled, so if you try to react to an opponents jab you can get dped in response there are couple frames on input delay so that by the time you see the opponent's jab start up and you try to throw in response, your throw ( a 1 frame move ) will be at least 3 frames behind the jab ( a 3-5 frame move )

I just did a play through with PSXjin and managed to pass both solo fights where I got hit without being hit, I'm going to start another run soon, I've watched my old run alot and have a few ideas where time might be saved

oh whoops, no idea, it just maxes them out and then zeros them as a way to guarantee nothing is kept between rounds, idk why you would need to max them first, overflow possibly

Hey, cool to see a run from you! I've been getting back into Magic, and thinking about returning to MTGS Forum Games someday... you still hang out there?
yep, still running 1cbb
I'm curious if you know the significance of the values the red HP address takes on between rounds - it seems to usually go in the pattern
It means something in hex, 256=1 red damage. If you want to know what the fractional value is just devide it by 256 for example in the Date match a smash does a base 5 damage so with the 50% bonus it should do 7.5 it does 7 red damage and the fractional number it causes is 128, half of 256. more complex example In the Mashiba match the first hit does 77 red and 255 fractional damage. the attack does a base damage of 30, so it should do 39 to Mashiba. It gets a 100% damage bonus so it should deal 78 damage, the games calculation is off a little. The next attack has a base damage of 8 does 10.4 to Mashiba should do 15.6 with the counter hit bonus (.6*256 = 153.6 +255)-256 =16 red and 152.6 fractional damage it actually does 16 red and makes the fractional damage = 153.

There are four types of dodges in the game, but it's not like punch-out, the differences between them are purely cosmetic. Left/right dodging is a few frames slower so I don't use them. I use ducking the most because it gives the best view of the opponent's moves. Plus Ippo is the duck master. The animation looks like ippo lowers his hands. and the sway look like ippo raises his hands

The games themselves probably look random to people who don't know the game (which is probably the majority of the potential viewers).
Go is basically the most popular game in the world. It gets a meh from me, I like Go and Hikaru no Go and the run was well done, but what little action there is spread really thin, with most of the run just being quickly scrolling Japanese text boxes

pretty sure it's not what we would call a TAS, it looks like he just used a bunnyhop script, the mouse speed is way to slow for a tas

hexing fba input files is basically imposable from what I understand. Dammit wrote a lua script that can basically do the same thing tho. http://code.google.com/p/macrolua/

I think the key here is to pick things that would fit nicely in the goals section of the submission, ie goes for high score hunts a wumpus colors an F that kind of thing

there are an infinite number of completely arbitrary things you can do survive a Wide-angle disintegration beam polymorph into a woodchuck and kill 120 Wood golems Hallucinate and become blind and confused get an Ice box and fill it full of potions of booze get a silly number of nested bags of holding collect a bunch of dilithium crystals or just go for max score
