If you want to see a wierd (but good) japanese movie, I recommend Zatoichi.
Original or 2003 remake with Takeshi Kitano?

Nintendo will do that to you ;) Just wait for the Wii.
No kidding! I laughed at the people who lined up to buy the Xbox 360 & PS3 for $400+ and I hadn't touched my Gamecube or PS2 in ages. Now I'm giving serious consideration to investing in the Wii. I just hope that some 2D hotness makes it onto the Wii. These handheld Castlevanias are awesome but they are not as good as Symphony of the Night on Playstation.

I used to love GameFan but it died years ago. Someone told me there's a new magazine with some of the same staff, but I don't know if that's true.

I've been having a blast playing through the GBA Castlevanias, they're great. Definitely going to get Dawn of Sorrow and that new one looks fantastic too. Just got Ouendan and the Japanese version of Brain Age on eBay. I can't believe I love video games again!

Gotta love AOL as #1. They totally billed me for months after I quit their "free" trial.

I recently found myself hooked on these simple puzzles. There are four versions but they all follow the same pattern: pick the odd items in the right order to solve the puzzle. Please note that no matter what order you follow, you can always use everything but the solution results in a special animation which will congratulate you. http://www.eyezmaze.com/ There are other games on the site too, but my favorites are the GROW puzzles.

Wouldnt that just make you want to throw up? Constantly moving?
That would be my assumption. I don't think combining drinking and precision movement would work. Then again, drinking does tend to encourage dancing in non-game situations. Also, let's forget about the insults in this topic, OK? I started editing them out but it looks like they've stopped.

I should mention that I ended up buying a DS Lite with the New SMB. Had a lot of fun but kinda blazed through it; I've already completed the game 100% so I'll probably put it up on eBay this weekend. Next up: renting Castlevania maybe? Or Metroid? Those games look good but I'd like to try them before I buy them. I'm also considering buying one of those Japanese quiz games. There are English versions but the Japanese one includes kanji tests - I need to keep my skills sharp!

Wouldn't it be a better idea to have posted this in Other Emulation?
Yeah....I realized that after the fact. I would move the thread there if I could.
I could and did. There's no reason not to work towards opening up new emulators for TAS runs, especially with the variety of exciting TG/PCE games out there. Rondo of Blood is easily the highest profile game but there are lots of shooters, platformers and the like which would be delightful, especially the CD games like Rondo. Wikipedia has handy lists of both regular and CD games.

Of those four I'd recommend Sin City the most, and I know how you feel about Jessica Alba. Of course she's hot but that doesn't change the fact that she is a horrible actress and totally wrong for that role. Indeed, I consider her presence probably the most glaring error in the film. Otherwise, the performances are strong and really worked for me, especially Mickey Rourke as Marv. And for the record, Tarantino only directed one scene (if you watch it, try to guess which one).

Alright, I fail for not paying closer attention. But where's the audio? Don't tell me you made a robot and forgot to make it talk.

The multiplayer is incredibly fast. I played with a friend using my local 256k DSL, we connected 2 DS at the same time, and the gameplay was perfect, it really looked like we weren't playing on the internet. I was kinda shocked... It's a free service. He just brought his USB wi-fi connector, installer a program from his pen drive and then we started playing metroid and mario kart.
Huh? Play over the internet? I don't follow...please elaborate. And thanks for your recommendations. Regarding the gym, I'd love to get back into working out, if only I could afford it. Joining the gym in New York is like buying a DS every month...

Anyone know why this topic forces my browser to scroll to the right a bit? Is there some kind of weird formatting at work here?

So lately all I can think about is buying a Nintendo DS. It's funny, because I haven't bought a video game of any kind in well over a year, yet now I have worked myself into a covetous frenzy over this little gem. I suspect it has something to do with all those ads I see for New SMB and that new Castlevania game and probably even the dictionary programs all the kids at school were using on their DS. So I pose discussion questions to all of you:
  1. Who has a DS, and what do you think of it?
  2. I've heard it is region-free, is this true?
  3. Regarding #2, I've heard some games multiplayer functions are not region-free, as in two DS from different regions cannot match up against each other. What have you heard/experienced?
Your thoughts on this matter are appreciated!

I hate to nitpick, but the forum is still teeming with references to "Nesvideos." Can that be changed as well to reflect the new domain? Or is it more difficult than I think it is?

The 10 minute limit is another reason I think Google Video is a better answer.

The Bionic Commando/Hitler's Resurrection video has a lot of fast-paced action that would suit a video very well. Not my version, of course!

I love that idea! It's kind of like when racial/ethnic slurs are taken by the victims and used for other purposes, thus deflating the hurtful intention of the original sluree (if that's even a word).

Why don't we LOCK this topic and let the matter rest? I doubt Anon will be checking up on the matter anytime soon.

I had to watch this so spent some time setting up an emulator on the school's computer just to see the movie - great job! Obviously these techniques can now be used to improve the any% run!

Short answer: white American male. Longer answer: While my parents and their parents were all born here, their parents before them (my great-grandparents) were all from various eastern-European nations like Poland, Austria-Hungary, Prussia, etc. Half of my family is Jewish which counts as an ethnicity to some people. Culturally speaking, I was born in New York and raised in the suburbs. Safe, quiet, dull.

The advantage of "speed run" over "speedrun" is it makes a bad-ass acronym: Tool Assisted Speed Run = TASR which looks like "Taser."
