I just noticed google videos now has a "gaming" genre, so it would be best to change all to that genre isntead of "animation" and use that genre when submitting new videos from now on.
Hmmm, does this really count as "gaming" and not "animation?" After all, we've always called the process "movie making" rather than simply "playing." What is Red vs. Blue considered?

I am a "player" in that I understand the premise of the game and, on occasion, I attempt to play against other people in a casual setting. I am, however, easily the worst basketball player on two legs. I'm sure the aforementioned 12 year old would school me.

Hmmm, for the most part I've kept substance usage and video gaming as totally separate pasttimes. But there were numerous N64 games that my friends and I routinely played under the influence:
  • Super Mario 64
  • Goldeneye
  • those really awesome wrestling games made by AKI
As a rule I think any game that allows for exploration and free movement (like above) are good choices because they offer more choices for gameplay. Of course, the Grand Theft Auto series is an excellent example of this. More recently, I tried playing Super Monkey Ball while drunk. I do NOT recommend it if you intend to succeed, because equilibrium is a problem!

In an attempt to swerve us back on-topic (for the sake of the thread), what do people think about the articles that deal with the movies on this site?

Most of my "work" on Wikipedia is fighting vandalism. I wish I could do something more constructive, but I don't have much else to add to most pages. I suppose somebody needs to clean up after all those prank edits...

I was going to direct this question to the FAQ but I just checked it and didn't find this useful fact in there. Can someone maybe slap this in there somewhere? Actually, can I do that?

Wouldn't that be "better luck four years from now?" Or do Finland and Sweden face each other annually?

And what about the idea of putting something like "watch now at google video" as a link on the submissions entry?
Yes, although it should be made clear that the Google Video version is "low resolution."

I love this plan! I'm excited to be a part of it!</ghostbusters> Seriously though, I whole-heartedly encourage this idea. I've been away from "my" computer since last May and I haven't been able to fool around with any emulators/bittorrent since. Using Google Video, despite the lower quality, is a great way to allow more access to the movies.

Very interesting! It would be cool to see this done for other games but I think it would only work on auto-scrolling games. Otherwise, the video would become a blur of mixed backgrounds and scenery as different players moved at different speeds.

w00t, thanks for telling me about this! I'm abroad and I don't have any access to bittorrent or emulators so I haven't been able to view any movies lately. Now I can enjoy them!

I'm a full-time student (currently in Japan) so it's been a while since I tried making any movies. My hobbies include learning Japanese (yes, my major is my hobby), singing karaoke and blogging.

We had a topic about this before (if I wasn't so lazy I'd find it and link to it). I started fooling around with Castlevania: Symphony of the Night but just beating the opening battle with Dracula resulted in a 50+ MB file. For the record, I didn't use an ISO, I just put the real game into my PC CD drive. So a re-recording PSX emualtor exists and it works but it's entirely impractical for what we do here on this site.

What? You hate Kanji? I love it. I'm a native English speaker and I'm currently studying Japanese in Japan. Nowhere near fluent, of course, but I can usually get by. In the trivial department, I spent five years in high school studying French which I can barely remember at all. Six weeks of German are even less memorable. I used to be able to read Hebrew a little bit but I never studied the language, just the aleph bet. I seem to recall a Saturday morning class in Latin during my elementary school days but I can't imagine why. I do remember the Greek alphabet, thanks to a mnemonic device. Of course, that only means I can recite the letters in order, not read or write them!

Resolutions? I'm still waiting for my favorite bars and restaurants to open. Japanese people stay home for three days on New Year's.

Hmm, not sure how I missed this two month old topic but it sounds like a very good idea to me. We could have "Published Movies," "Workbench," and "The Morgue."

I don't see a problem with voting for your own movie because it's totally harmless. It's not like one vote can sway whether the movie is published or not. If there's a 16-15 yes/no split then there's obviously something horribly wrong with the movie and it's not going to be accepted.

Hmmm...would I be on Team USA (my native land) or Team Nippon (current residence)? Given the talent out there I feel I'd be dead weight on either side. >_<

Galamoth from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (as feitclub said, the bosses from this game are done very well)
Do you realize that we picked two bosses who occupy the same room? How's that for a coincidence?

I'm not seeing any mention of fighting games and that makes me sad.
  • Geese Howard and Wolfgang Krauser in Fatal Fury Special. In particular, I consider Geese's theme song (especially that particular incarnation) to be one of the coolest things I've ever heard. Krauser gets mad props for using real Mozart!
  • Goro in the original Mortal Kombat is one of the most memorable bosses I ever faced. Not only was he an animated character in a game of real people, you could hear him roar and see the screen shake during the previous battle, adding to the overall anticipation of fighting him! Shang Tsung was totally anti-climactic afterwards.
  • The Yellow Devil in Rockman blew me away the first time I fought him.
  • Although the actual battle is rather easy, the entire empty castle and match with Dracula in Castlevania II is really cool.
  • Nearly every boss battle in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is sensational, but my personal favorite is Granfalloon/Legion.

Isn't Reona still unusual? Aside from "Leona Heidern" I've never heard that before, and she's fictional.
