Found this link on Arc's site, figured I'd post it here as we've had a few discussions on PSX time-attacks. Haven't watched it yet (I'm in line) http://www.planetquake.com/sda/other/SotN.html

If you want to try it, go for it! I can't get anywhere in that game.

Don't use the CD version. Load times slow the game down, and the cinemas are replaced by shitty FMV, just like every other Sega CD game.

The AVI didn't work for me either. Try the smv file.

That link will get you version 1.42. Does that version have the movie function? I don't see it on the menu.

But wouldn't be better using the snes version ? The resolution and the sound seems better (at least to me).
Good point, the SNES version looks a lot better.

There's a lot of websites out there featuring remakes/remixes of video game music. Here's a few: http://www.ocremix.org http://www.vgmix.com http://www.minibosses.com http://www.neskimos.com

Well, I watched a few fights but I stopped. The fights are quite slow. You need to try a lot more combos. If you want some inspiration, check out this video: http://www.planetdreamcast.com/orochinagi/cyberfan/superplay/sf2ww/allperfect.htm It's a movie of SFII with Ryu, all perfects.

Why do you even bother posting? It is clear to me that he is using the pause trick. Even if the majority of the people here didn't support it, I believe he would use it. He is trying to make the fastest movie possible. The movie he is attempting to beat appears so perfect to a layman like me that nothing but absolute mastery of the game beyond perfection will suffice to improve upon it. Not using the pause trick to "make a more entertaining movie" (an arguable point in and of itself) is not mastery, it is merely inferior.
The use of the pause trick is a little controversial. Many people have voiced objections, and it is not allowed by TG "rules." Personally, I love it, but I see the other side's point of view. Irregardless, there's no reason to discourage someone from posting.

I thought FF3 in Japan was the first Final Fantasy to come to the US. Guess not?

Sounds fun, but shot conservation is crucial to cool time attacks. Something to work on for future versions, perhaps.

The cartridge version of Flashback runs faster and, IMO, looks cooler. Like most Sega CD games, the technology was used to create cheap looking video in-between gameplay.

Really? I guess I'm a dolt, because I spent weeks scouring the Internet looking for Castlevania: SOTN before giving up and buying a greatest hits version. My problem thus far has been recording the sound without slowing the emulation.

Rerecording is simple, but the files are pretty big. That's because you save all the data, not just a sequence of commands like an FMV.

If we call them "tool-assisted" and someone complains that they are "fake", we can always say "we said it was tool-assisted, didn't we? What are you complaining about?". However, "timeattack" doesn't tell anything. It's not descriptive and can be considered fraudulent. "Tool assisted" is a descriptive and honest term. It's also a term which has existed earlier for this exact purpose. I personally will not use the term "timeattack" anymore. I will be using "TAS" instead.
Magic Food's point is valid, though. People are always going to complain. Always. Even if you preface every movie with three pages of text explaining how the movie was made, there's always going to be an asshole who says "you're cheating."

All I'm saying is that you'll never please everyone, so you might as well call the movies whatever the frick you want.
Exactly! No matter how much explaining we do, somebody is always going to cry about it and call us "cheaters."

I like it a little bit, even more now that we've got a term to describe it!

I hate the term "tool-assisted speed run" because it sounds like we're using wrenches and pliers.
Me too. Do we really need four words to describe this? I like "time attack" because it doesn't really make sense if you think about it and 90% of these videos are played for speed.

Compared to his run time, my movie was pathetic.. oh well :P
Don't despair. I know how it feels to be beaten... >_< Seriously though, here is my big suggestion to ANYONE doing this game, based on the two movies so far: Only attack when you have to. Don't jump and kick 4 times to hit one guy...just time it right and kick once. Likewise, while you're waiting for the boss to transform, please don't attack repeatedly at nothing. It's very noisy!

I just watched both movies. Nice work, but there's room for improvement. Dan's movie is much faster (especially against the bosses) but there's too much frantic movement; excessive punching and kicking that hit no one. With a little more economy of offense, this movie will be better.

Is it faster to slide continuously, like Mega Man?

A Richter run would be pretty cool and pretty short to boot. He runs and moves a lot faster than Alucard does. I wonder how interesting a Time Attack on this game would be. The more I play it, the easier it gets. Perhaps a Time Attack would have to include a restriction, i.e. no weapon crashes for Ritcher or possibly no spells for Alucard.
