My name is actually the name of a metallica song, how original of me ;) I think I saw another user on this board with the name master of puppets, so I guess I am not the only one using a metallica song title for a name. Any search results from my name will lead to either lyrics or music videos for the song. By the 5th page on the Google results, I finally saw my monopoly submissions. A search for my name on google video will show my Chrono Trigger run on the first page. I am pretty sure I am the only person who is using this 'phrase' as an actual online handle, which is surprising.

looking good. I don't think losing the golden sword is an issue. Since you will need to damage boost in the 3rd level, you will lose it anyway.

Tonski: Yes, I am working on a new run already. I do not know if I can get 24 minutes, but I know that there are lots of little tweaks that need to be fixed in the published run. We shall see how it turns out ;) Saturn: I am not at brinstar yet, I just finished killing the torizo. I am taking more time with this run, and testing various ways to do each room before I advance. Too bad I didn't know about the trick in the old MB room earlier, it would have looked nice in my run. evilchen: Please keep trying to find new tricks, you have much potential. It is difficult to find anything new in this game, but I know that you can still find some cool stuff. Also, I really like your video editing skills. I have seen what you have done with JXQ's run, and it looks great.

evilchen, It has to do with the height of your jump and samus' running speed before she begins the jump. Generally it has a better chance of working if you jump higher and run slower. here is how to jump over the missle pack in the wave beam area

he did. I just realized that the somersault could be canceled by pressing X, L, or R, which also keeps the momentum intact. There is another useful application for this too Tub, I will use it in my new any% run to cross over the crateria missle lake without having to bomb jump.

This is mostly for moozooh, since I doubt he has gotten to this point in his low% run yet. This is a method of continuous walljumping in the old mother brain room. It saves at least 6 frames over the traditional method, maybe more. Unfortunately I am too far past this point to implement it into my new any% run, unless I manage to hex it in without a desync. This isn't like a regular continuous walljump because it requires that you press the X, L, or R button after the walljump to continue Samus' momentum and still land as early as possible on the next platform. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/4657/jumps.smv Pretty soon I will post a package of little tech demos that I have collected. Most of them are tiny improvements to JXQ's 100% route, but maybe they can be useful elsewhere too.

I just realized that this new strategy will obtain an ending that will not require any additional input from the controller. This means that the actual real time input will end right at the final hit on lavos, which will save so much real time over the ending that I obtained in my run. My run has an ending that required 6 minutes of additional input, because it contained dialog. I am pretty sure that if lavos is killed anytime between azala's defeat and the death of Crono, the ending that will occur is the one known as "what the prophet seeks". There is one exception known as the sideshow ending, but that will not be the case with this strategy. "what the prophet seeks" is one of the coolest endings in the game, and contains an awesome quote at the end. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PB9U0d1gEVU

Indeed this is awesome news! I am really looking forward to seeing this, and it would make for a perfect visual walkthrough for whoever decides to make a new TAS. I would personally like to see Saturn make the new TAS. I have combed through his ng+ TAS, and it appears to be frame perfect. He gains frames in areas I would not even begin to think about. Well I think it would be cool if he did it ;)

damn, nice find with the score tallying screen. I wish I had thought of that. That makes for a solid 2 second improvement in the first level over my run, very cool. I am looking forward to seeing the rest of this.

I think that it looked very well played, at least from a casual viewer's point of view. There was enough exciting sections to avoid getting bored, well played. Gonna vote yes.

This looks great zidanax. I don't really see anything that looks improvable so far, but I will follow your progress and let you know if I see anything later on

Glad to hear you are taking a stab at this game. I don't know of anything is specific that can be improved, but I feel like the later levels are tough to optimize and maybe a few seconds can be gained on my run. I do not think it matters what version you use. I went with (29252) only because Nach said it was the correct dump. The checksum for the (2648) was ok, so I don't see any reason why it couldn't be used. Either way, good luck!

Thanks Saturn! kennyman, There is some sort of historical context to the spelling of missle. I forget where I saw it, but it seemed to be correct for this game. Obviously I know how to spell it correctly. I use firefox which has a built in spell check, and there is a red dotted line under missle ;)

Here is a *much* more optimal phantoon fight using just 2 missle packs. I managed to kill him without leaving the screen at all. According to my rough estimates, a 2 pack kill is about 80 frames longer than a 3 pack kill. The amount of time spent jumping over the wave beam missle pack is 70 frames, and the time spent collecting the charge beam missle pack is 27 frames. This 2 missle pack strategy will most likely be the one I use in my run. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/4585/2pack.smv

ahh yes, you are correct JXQ. I did rename it to the lameness beam, due to the overwhelming lameness that it induces.

I am just going by what Saturn said. He said that perfectly optimized charged shots are about the same as using the murder beam. I am pretty sure I didn't misunderstand him anyway. Don't kill the messenger. edit: Maybe I he was talking about the first half of the battle, I dunno.

It would have actually been much slower in real time to use the murder beam. According to Saturn, the murder beam doesn't really save much time on the in-game timer either. And I agree that such a beautiful run would be spoiled with such an ugly glitch.

yes XYZ, that is the nature of Metroid Fusion. It is a very linear game, sequence breaks are almost non-existent.

This looks fantastic Cardboard. The springball boss went down really fast. It also looks like the time spent collecting the springball is minimal compared to how much time it is gonna save throughout the run. Keep up the awesome work.

This game reminds me of contra. A contra game set in some hell bent futuristic space colony. I never played this game before, but it seemed pretty fun, and the music in particular was good. The run itself seemed pretty much perfect, with no visible mistakes. There was more than enough action to keep me interested for 10 minutes. I also enjoyed seeing the little character move to the music. Voting yes.

While this game does have some impressive visuals, the overall action does not make for a very exciting run. There is little in this run that would make it more impressive than a regular speed run. I am sure this is pretty well optimized, but that still doesn't make the run very entertaining. I vote meh. Well played, but bad game choice.

This is an epic masterpiece. I've already watched this thing twice, and my jaw is still on the floor. So many tiny things have been improved here, it really is astonishing. The flow of this run is totally uncanny, it felt like the whole thing lasted about 15 minutes. The added input animations really add to the wonder of this run too, kudos for making such a cool program. Points of awesomeness: ~Freezing the enemies in lower norfair to form platforms after collecting the energy tank. ~Calculating the exact amount of energy Samus needed to lose in order to perform the stop animation for the shinespark in the grapple beam area. Yes x 100 Congratulations JXQ, and thank you for making such a wonderful run.

Great run. Everything seemed very optimized with the exception of the Metroid battles. For me, 100% item runs are especially enjoyable to watch. This is a clear yes vote, even if it can be improved a tiny bit.

Kitsune, there is no video for the 3:39 run (which is not a 100% run anyway). Kyrsimys was talking in hypothetical terms, for a future run. If you want to see a 100% completion run, check out the one on the speed demo archives.
