Notice that the video doesn't show Luigi being unlocked or provide any instructions to unlock him. Nintendo.com's answer on the subject is: Q: Is Luigi in Super Mario 64? A: Nope, not at all. Any screenshots you see from the original Nintendo 64 version are fake. He is, however, available as a playable character in Super Mario 64 DS. (http://forums.nintendo.com/nintendo/board/message?board.id=mario&message.id=77) Ask Dan has repeatedly denied the existence of Luigi, as well as Ninja Mario. The video may be Photoshopped, the ROM may have been hacked, or it may be Luigi from Super Mario 64 DS (I wouldn't be able to tell because I don't own a DS). I have screwed around with that star many times and never found Luigi, and I just screwed around with it a lot to be sure. I also Googled for more information, the assumption being that there would be a lot of buzz if that video was real, but I found nothing but people talking about hoaxes and reinforcing the fact that he does not appear in SM64. It would be pretty hard for something like that to remain a secret for 10 years, and even harder now that there are re-recording emulators to allow us to search the code, hack, cheat, and pull off any trick or glitch imaginable.

Dude, that was awesome! I'm surprised that the game can be beaten that quickly. Based on the way you toy with the flame throwers, I think you can add "plays with death" to the list for this submission. I expected Level 8 to basically be a carbon copy of the warp run, but the lack of 99-lives takes nothing away from it. I love the way you jumped on Bowser's corpse after you owned him. Awesome stuff. I think this deserves a star.

Maybe I'm taking this out of context, but I think the judging is a big deal. In order to vote, you have to watch the video. Lazy and sedentary as I am, I have to set aside time to watch a 30+ minute TAS. I had to watch Super Mario RPG in more than one sitting. Judging takes a lot of time just for an idiot like me. People who are pros need even longer to dissect each section, looking for improvements. Although a movie can be published without many votes if it clearly makes the grade (usually by improving on an existing one), it often takes dozens of votes for there to be a clear consensus. Unless a movie looks perfect, or mind-bogglingly good, there usually has to be a lengthy discussion about it which can take days or weeks. It's amazing just how big a deal it really is.

That is awesome. I can't believe how fast you beat Chapter 4. I remember it being a much shorter chapter than Chapter 3, what with all the getting a job and having a wife and all, but I'm surprised at how directly you can get to the end of it. Good luck in Chapter 5.

I've finally had a chance to watch your new WIP, and I love it. There are a couple of places where I hear the "bump" sound as though you've walked into a wall while navigating a town or cave. Does that indicate that you've lost some time trying to go a direction that you can't go? Is it done for luck manipulation?

Yay, another Ecco run! And this one is much shorter! You're right. After watching this run, it can safely be said that there is no way you should be able to do anything close to that without taking damage. That was just awesome. I love the diving through the wall glitch, and the sneaking past the crystals trick. The graphics in some of those levels is just amazing, and some of the music is surreal. This is a very weird game, and a very weird TAS, but it definitely gets a Yes.

I found the site while looking for Morimoto's famous SMB3 run (and not being able to read the Japanese on his site), only to find that there was an even faster run here.

Isn't this thread dead yet? Let's say a prayer and drop a handful of dirt on it.

Ah, excellent. That's exactly the archived page I was thinking of. I was planning to write to Mark Rein first, because he was extremely supportive of my preservation efforts and got back to me right away, whereas Tim Sweeney understandably took some time to get back to me and was too busy for follow-up questions. You folks really know your ZZT, don't you?

ZZT is kind of a problem. Normally a shareware game includes a license that allows it to be freely distributed, which is the point of shareware. The ZZT license rescinds the right to host any previous version, which I guess was Epic's way of making sure that BBSes and other distributors kept their version of ZZT up to date. ZZT was released as freeware on Epic's website at one point (although Epic Classics will still sell you a copy), so hopefully they don't care any more. I'll email Mark Rein or Tim Sweeney about it. In the meantime, thanks for your help on completing the ZZT collection.

The runs of this game have been notorious for desyncing. I'm too lazy to search the threads for the most reliable settings, but they shouldn't be too hard to find. The previous runs of this game are in the new forum for cancelled/rejected runs.

Jetpack is one of my all-time favorites. I don't care for Squarez Deluxe. If anyone is looking for Electroman, Jazz Jackrabbit or Invasion of the Mutant Space Bats of Doom, they're all on my website. I don't have Dangerous Dave yet because I'm not sure about its legal status and I don't take any chances on this sort of thing. I'm going to email John Romero to be super sure, since Softdisk told me absolutely nothing when I asked about it, other than forbidding me to charge money for it.

That's fine with me. I didn't intend to commandeer this thread with the no coin discussion, but I'm glad it's at least about SM64.

His goal was to get the highest possible score. He had to get pacifist wherever possible, exploit the unique bonuses of each level, and end each level with fighter stance. Speed was less important than score, so it's not meant to be compared with the runs we have here. Nico, I hope the reason you're not planning to do another run isn't because of the feedback from your two submissions. All submissions get nitpicked, and fighting games are wide open to comparison and criticism because there are so many characters to choose from. I only voted No because you could have fallen through the floor in Board the Platforms, so I didn't see the point of publishing a run that was going to be obsoleted immediately after. I guess you were unable to hex edit that in, but I hope you'll consider doing another run if this one doesn't get published.

Have you ever heard a black person speak?
Yes, I've heard it. I'm not black, so I don't say it. The great thing about the internet is that I have no idea if you're black or not. That means that we can judge each other by our ideas rather than the color of our skin. When Chris Rock uses it in a routine, I laugh. I have a sense of humor and I can laugh when something is funny. This is different. This is not an HBO special, and we have no way of knowing what anyone else's race is. We have no way of knowing if we've offended someone or not. Why risk offending someone? The n-word is a word that should be used as sparingly as possible, and I don't think this forum is the place.

Happy 8th month birthday, X-Men 2 submission! You're a great little TAS and we hope you turn into a published run someday! Best wishes, Uncle Hopper
