Didn't think of this in time to use Edit. Because Robocop just walks in a straight line, even through enemies and bullets and flame throwers, it doesn't look like it would be much slower if it wasn't tool assisted. Robocop really gets owned in some of the fights. That's just not how a speedrun goes. You do "Takes no damage", or "Takes damage to save time," which usually still means that you take damage in just a few places to save time. To avoid having to stop and fight, Robocop takes damage from almost everyone (and doesn't make it look cool by doing it at 100 km/h like GBA Castlevania: Circle of the Moon). If I wanted to watch someone get his butt kicked, I could play the game myself. (The part about "Robocop must be the worst cop ever" reminded me of the Dick Tracy game. That might be fun to make a run at)

Okay, I've been watching for at least 5 minutes and I can't watch any more. This is unbelievably boring. You just walk in a straight line through every level, and take a ton of damage along the way. On the rare occasions when he uses his gun, there appear to be missed shots, as bullets can be seen disappearing behind the enemies (the ones who are kicking Robocop's ass). Robocop must be the worst cop ever. I've played Robocop 3 and I remember having the ability to, um, jump. This game just blows. I vote No.

I keep Famtasia so that I can watch movies that were submitted before blip's FCEU came along. I recognize that the Rockman 2 run, and some of the other classics, use Famtasia. I agree that Famtasia isn't "loathesome", but it's clearly inferior to FCEU. I find that FCEU is easier to use, and produces a better picture. The emulation is more accurate. I would just prefer if FCEU could be used for submissions in the future.

That is some f'd up stuff. Wow. I remember playing this game for a few minutes, saying "This is too weird for me," and never playing it again. I'm glad I've seen this movie, because that is just hilarious. Even his monkey is in this game. <shaking head in disbelief> It makes perfect sense that the game concept and design are by Michael Jackson. Good soundtrack, though. I don't know why dancing to Billy Jean kills the bad guys, but maybe I'd rather not know. And... he turns into a robot? That was one of those WTF moments, which is saying a lot in a game that's already this weird. Okay, that's enough commentary on the game itself. Excellent run, you made it look easy. Actually, one more thought. Remember the whole thing with Mike Tyson's Punch-out, and Punch-out, which is the same game without Mike Tyson? If Michael Jackson had been taken to trial for child molestation, do you think they could have changed the music and just had some weird guy who dances to defeat bad guys and saves children? Could this game make any sense at all if the hero was anyone other than Michael Jackson? New for Sega Genesis: Some Guy, Moonwalker!

It's a minute faster than the published run, and no one has identified any fault with it. I see no reason for it not to be published. And I would like to mention that I, and another human, played this game for hours on a real console, and I can see why someone in their right mind would wish to play it. It's hard, and the acrobatics are fun. Right away it has more appeal than several dozen other games. This game won't make the hall of fame, but it doesn't suck... and there were a LOT of NES games that sucked. Unless a very strong argument can be made to override the voting of the dozens of people who got the first run published, I see no reason not to publish the run that beats it by a minute immediately. P.S. If you think about it, it's kind of insulting when someone suggests that a published run should be unpublished. If a large enough number of people voted Yes to get it published, it would be downright undemocratic to suggest that their wishes should be overturned. I mean, unless everyone who voted is a moron.

I'm considering adopting a "No Famtasia" policy for my viewing and voting. I just prefer an emulator that sucks a little less.

I already did speed runs of Duck Hunt and To The Earth. They were boring as hell. You can shoot at one object the frame it appears, and another on the very next frame. Nothing survives long enough to be seen. It requires no skill and serves absolutely no purpose.

Wait, she's not a real woman??? Thanks, I'm familiar with Oh! My Goddess. It's hard to be a nerd without watching anime. I also enjoy Star Wars and live in my mother's basement. Beat that!

I have over 120 NES games, and 100+ Atari 2600 games, and a good 50+ SNES and SMS and Intellivision, 25+ Genesis and N64 and GB and GG and PS1, and, well just boxes and boxes of games and systems. I'm a very well-rounded nerd. Speaking of being a nerd, am I the only one who thinks that the woman in Bob Whoops' avatar is hot? I need a real woman. (Sigh)

I love it! This crazy thread had just died, and then a newby brings up the minus world. I love unexpected plot twists.

I must disagree. I think this is the most entertaining of the Donkey Kong submissions so far. In the currently published run, most of the barrels don't come anywhere close to Mario because it's been manipulated to prevent him from having to jump. This run shows Mario coming within pixels from death on several occasions. This is the first one that I would actually call entertaining. The "plays with death" theme makes it worth it. It's 23 frames faster than the published run, and it's much more fun to watch.

At least this one came in before the new improved run got published. I vote Yes. I love the fact that it "plays with death."

Well, that record lasted about 5 minutes. That's a pretty substantial improvement over the published run. I vote Yes. Should I come back in a few minutes and see if someone has a faster one?

I'm not a big fan of ending the recording during gameplay, but it seems to be fairly common practice. It's forgivable.

I have problems, in principle, with voting Yes to a movie that is only going to be obsoleted later because the author is aware that it can be improved. Unless a run is really brilliant, I think you need to wait until your run is perfect. At any rate, there are a lot of issues with this run, most of which have already been mentioned. Collecting fruit adds to your health meter, which has to be tallied at the end of each stage. If that costs you, on average, a second on each stage, that's a minute that you could take off of this run! It looks more impressive if you can finish with a split second to spare anyway. The jumping from ledge to ledge does not seem optimal. Try to catch just the edge when you land. Jump exactly as far as necessary and no farther. Thing one is purely stylistic, but when you jump over enemies, you really jump over enemies. Usually you want to demonstrate glitches, such as the lousy collision detection in most NES games. Clear the bad guys by as little as possible to show off your skills. I also agree that some of the boss fights don't appear optimal. It looks like you wait for bosses to become vulnerable before attacking, instead of timing your attack to hit them the instant they become vulnerable. And finally, if you're going to redo this movie, please pick a different emulator. That thing drives me crazy! Otherwise, and I know this sounds sarcastic after producing a list of problems, I think it's a good run. This is kind of a boring game, though, so although you can probably take more than a minute off of it, you might want to try a "warpful" run. People might be more likely to watch it if it was short, so that might help get the necessary Yes votes. I have voted No for now.

Famtasia? Just when I thought I could finally delete that thing. Fine, I'll load it up. <grumble grumble> (BTW, I'm not the one who voted No)

WOW! That was unbelievable. You dissed Bowser so hard. Definitely one of the best speed runs I have ever seen. And pilif, he uses Select to drop the spare mushroom before grabbing the next one. Once he has one falling, he can even drop the second one and have them both falling at the same time. Very clever!

Excellent! Well done. It breaks the record and looks great, so that's an easy Yes.

Well played. I used to play this game with a friend and I can tell you that it's pretty hard. The acrobatic stunts are particularly fun. Beating a game this long in this little time is quite a feat, especially when it beats the existing time by over a minute. How could it not be a Yes vote?

Speaking of shots, I'm particularly fond of the scenes were Mario throws a fireball that doesn't hit an enemy for three more screens. Now that's timing!

Argh! Stupid freaking desync! I'm trying to watch a movie here! Okay, other than having to fast forward through the one place where the movie desyncs every time, I was finally able to watch the whole movie and form an opinion of it. I think it's good. Yeah, this movie is amazing! Way to skip half of Bowser's castle! I love the fun you have with the game's collision detection, with wrenches passing through your head and other unmentionable parts. Absolutely excellent. A clear Yes vote.
