Nooooo... The Japanese version had exploding heads, but the English version is infinitely superior for its fantastic dialogue. "AARZAK! SAVE THE WORLD!" "I AM THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN SAVE THIS WORLD!!!!!!11"

To be honest, Last Battle has the comedy factor going for it, but not much else. Even for its time it was a pretty repetitive and boring fighting game. NOW YOU HAVE THE LOOK OF A HERO

I'm really sorry... Truly sorry, I know this took a lot of work, but good god FFMQ is a boring game. :( I do admire the job you did, but I just don't see why.

I was a bit bummed at how voted down the original run was, but had no idea it could be improved this much. Goes to show!

Well, I think it looks pretty good. I did not know about the slide trick which would have shaved off a good amount of time. The swimming seems vastly improved. That's one thing I couldn't figure out how to do correctly. What's the trick? You also seemed to have improved a few other things here and there.
You just gotta avoid using Autofire. =) The "B" swim motion always incorporates a slight pause, so you don't want to press it again until Wario's swimming starts to slow down, and a good point of reference is Wario's animation. Once his arms are at his side, I release the B Button and press it again. I found both this and the slide move out while attempting my run of Wario Land 3, which has pretty much the same controls.

At the end of Hall of Hieroglyphics, where the jewel pieces are in the same place, you are about 300 frames faster than my movie, or about 5 seconds. That's pretty significant and indicates just how much my movie could be improved
That's actually quite surprising seeing how I took too long to get most of the pieces, and I messed up at the very end by letting the rock get in my way. =O

By the start of Monsoon Jungle you are about 4000 frames slower than my movie, or about 66 seconds give or take. This is after only the 4 easiest levels in the game. I still estimate a hard mode TAS would be between 5 and 10 minutes longer than normal. But still, I think the hard mode movie is more interesting.
Yeah, the Normal Mode is great for seeing Wario run continuously, but it is a shame to see some of the cool puzzles being skipped, particularly in the Zombie Mansion and "Board Game" stages.

I'd give it a shot, but I've kinda lost my motivation to do TAS movies. Wario truly is underappreciated.

I don't have time to attempt it myself anytime soon. It'd be nice if a more experienced TASer would, but I wouldn't hold my breath. =P If I ever did go back to work on it, it wouldn't be quite as optimized as you'd like, I have a feeling. I'm really not as thorough as the guys who did the Mario and Sonic runs. I don't use frame advance or anything like that. =P

I did the first four levels on Hard Mode just for fun and thought I'd throw it up here. http://ohnolookoutitsaraygun.com/WarioLand4-Hard.zip It's the same rom Juan used, for anyone who still has it. =P It's not a completely optimized run, but it does demonstrate some of the differences in the different mode (the most predominant one being the new locations for almost all the Jewel Pieces), as well as examples of a couple of new optimizations over Juan's movie, namely better swimming and the use of the "Slide" move done by pressing B and then immediately crouching (a move I'm guessing Juan didn't know about). Not really expecting anything to come of this, as Wario is mystifyingly unpopular among TASers and I don't have time to make a serious attempt at this myself, but still thought I'd throw it up here.

YES. Also, there should be a Megaman 3 TAS where the only weapon used is the Top Spin.

I don't usually like runs where flying powerups are used to bypass all the terrain (my eyes tend to glaze over the parts of the SMW runs where the Ninja Cape is used), but this was pretty entertaining somehow! I'm wondering if this should completely replace Bis's run, though, since that run was entertaining in a completely different way. Perhaps it should stay and be labeled the "Wheel Run"?

Victor made a lot of changes to the game for the Famicom version. The end result wasn't bad or anything, but it's not nearly as streamlined as the PCE version. The PCE version is really the only one with a balanced experience system. In the original game and all the other conversions, you have to do a LOT of level grinding, which isn't good for a TAS, needless to say. Plus the PCE version has that freakin' awesome soundtrack. =3

If you leave out the 'bad music' part, it sounds loke a Ys game.
There were a lot of games like Ys back then, but none of them aged nearly as well. Which makes me wonder if there was ever any progress made on a PC Engine rerecording emulator. Ys needs a TAS badly. =(

Hydlide's one of those interesting cases where the game was already QUITE old when it got its North American release. Like, five years old. I think FCI published it in '89 'cause they wanted to follow Dragon Warrior and FF for some reason, even though neither of those games actually did all that well outside of Japan. It's actually quite a classic in Japan. There were times when bad music, crazy-simple combat, and ridiculous level grinding were the acceptable standard in JRPGs. =) Voted yes!

Right now I'm afraid you will have to redo your movie before doing anything, as you know you lost a LOT of time by not using chargejump against breakable blocks in the beginning, or not always running during the level selection, also because of the loss of several time savers that I'll talk about in a few time. I'll just say for now that if you do a frame perfect chargejump (B then down in 2 frames) against breakable blocks, you will get through them as if they were nothing and will be able to break the next block row if the ceiling is three blocks high, think about it! Bye.
Yeah, I figured this out later in the run, and ended up giving up since the interest seems rather low. I still haven't figured out how to optimize Wario's speed 100% (chargejumping seems to be the fastest, but you don't jump as far unless you walk a couple steps before charging, and then there's a bit of slowdown at the end.) If you want to pursue it, go right ahead. =O

Yeah.. I was using .15 actually. I needed to upgrade. Fancy that. So... watched it. I went ahead and voted yes for being entertaining despite being imperfect. But I do think Ivan would do well to try a second version.

This video desynchs for me when you try to hop on the first rotating sucker in stage 2. =( I'm using the correct ROM. Are you using some odd version of FCEU? This hasn't happened since I tried to watch Pinball Quest. Switching to Blip's edit of FCEU fixed that, and as far as I know there haven't been any new versions of FCEU since then. It was pretty entertaining up uintil then, though.

Hahaha... It won't be me! Each GnG game is nine minutes long, so I can see how people would be able to sit through it twice. But Astro Boy is a half-hour, and unless someone can miraculously find a way to make it more interesting the second time, I don't see anyone putting up with it.

The problem with the Ghost n' Goblins series is that it always makes the player beat the game twice, without any change at all in the game the second time around. No change in difficulty, no new enemies, no nothing. It's just Capcom sucking the soul from the player by forcing them to play their irritating game all over again.

This game was odd in that the first level threatened to actually be creative with its "spraypaint all the purple things" goal. And then after that it just becomes a boring item collection game and basic platformer. Plus it's kind of impossible to avoid getting stalled in the third level. It's a really uneven game in terms of watchability. It's also got some of the most unintuitive controls ever -- The A button is both the jump AND run button, except when you're in the middle of jumping, B suddenly becomes the "run" button. Eesh. It makes the game really difficult to do a TAS of, but the difficulty won't be as apparent to people who are just watching. I'd like to see a TAS, personally. Thought about making one myself, but due to everything I just mentioned, I decided it probably wouldn't be worth it.

1) Nah, it would probably suck just as much. 2) There are some moments where it could have been avoided in the first stage and it does indeed look awful. 3) I don't really know, quite frankly, but that's just how it is. I tried everything to not have to do that, such as running up against the ledge for a few seconds, then jumping. No dice. This game probably didn't get much playtesting, I imagine. 4) I guess you're talking about the Stage 7 boss, which was defeated pretty much as fast as possible. Once he's struck, you have to wait before you can attack him again anyway. Bad example, but there probably ARE ways to optimize the fights further. It's really hard to affect where the knife lands though; I think I did about as good as I could. 5) Agreed! But still, it was fun. =)

I was just joking around, though I'm not sure what I meant by that either. I'll just leave this submission up for a week for people to see if they want, then withdraw it. Oh well.. no love for Niki.

Maybe it would be fine if more of the things that look like mistakes and time-wasters (such as jumping twice to get over walls and going back a long distance to retrieve a knocked-away sword) can be avoided somehow...
I tried everything I could to get over those damn walls. If anyone else manages to find a way to do it, I'll pay them a million dollars. It's not really a big deal if this run isn't liked, but frankly I am a little shocked and appalled at how few of you seem to remember or know about Kid Niki. =(
