So I'm pretty much done with the routing in act 1. Just to make it easier on myself I won't route act 2 at all until I'm finished with act 1. I almost forgot to ask. Should level wraps be allowed in this? I'm asking because it could have use in act 2. Also I did some testing in Sandopolis 1. You can use the offscreen slope glitch exploit to the the 3 rings in the wall. It's faster than the other method but I don't think it'll be as entertaining.

Thanks for those routes. They'll definitely help me with mine. I found this unique strat. It probably won't be optimal but I'll try it out in my testrun anyways. It'll be a good way to confuse our viewers though. Link to video

I kinda do the same. Study the map and go ingame to test out potentially useful strats. Sometimes I find one while making the tas. Sometimes the route changes slightly based on what happens ingame. I just want a general reference to my planned route so that I don't forget what to do while making the tas. Also I kinda goofed with the userfiles upload. There was no way to download the savestate for the gmv. I added a link just now on that page.

What a pleasure to watch this! the only noticeable improvement I saw is: you can spindash trough the object at at 1:41 instead of doing the carry clip, the run in general is very solid and fun.
Thanks friend :) Oh believe me I tried to do that but I just couldn't do it. I found that those wide objects are very strict about letting you spindash through them from the left side (I was barely able to clip through the one at 2:15) and that particular one does not give you good layout to work with. I think what you're suggesting is a Knuckles exclusive trick. Unless you can prove me wrong. Your reaction (love that meme btw) pretty much sums up how I would feel about doing heavy optimization run of this act myself. You might find the Sonic and Tails ring attack to be much more enjoyable to tas though. What do you use to trace your routes on the maps? Because I'm not sure if I can do either act of Lava Reef by memory.

For me Sandopolis 2 is always the longest and the hardest part of the whole game, and as a TASer who spent a lot of time TASing this stage, I am really impressed by your testrun. It probably needs some optimization, but I know that Evil_3D is already so good at it. Keep up your work, guys!
Thanks. I can see how this level would be a pain. This testrun wasn't difficult to make though (at least everything besides that insane trick about a minute in :p). For one I got very lucky with the cycle at the beginning of the act. It took me very little time to make it optimal. Overall I'm glad it went smoothly. It probably could use some optimizations. I can't really tell where because there's little to no sloppiness in my run. Although I'm sure Evil will demolish my time when he finishes this act. EDIT: @Scepheo, Just realized that I forgot to thank you for telling me how to use the userfiles. So Thanks.

Here's Sandopolis 2 without any screen wraps. I'm really pleased with how this one turned out. Link to video Now all that remains is a testrun for both acts of Lava Reef which I'll definitely do in one gmv/video. Don't expect it to be ready anytime soon though. It's 2 big acts and I want to take a break before I even start. How do you upload stuff to the userfiles? I can't seem to figure it out. EDIT: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/42185670270865281 I hope that uploaded the way I wanted it to.

Wow we had very different routes in mind. I still found yours to be helpful though. So it looks like no vertical screen wraps will be a viable goal. I won't have to derive too much off a normal route to accomplish it.

Thanks paused. Tasing this game has definitely been an interesting experience. Maybe I'll tas some of the levels in this run in the future. I'm 90% sure he won't reach 1M in the next WIP. He'd have to beat the level in less than 1:30 to get a 10k time bonus to reach it. Also I have a route idea for most of SOZ2. I just need to work out a few things. I've discovered that you can get all the rings without any vertical screen wraps so I might make that a goal for my testrun if I find good enough strats for it.

[<>] is also useful in stages like DEZ1, when Sonic starts entering the viewport from the left, there is one special frame when the game accepts D-pad input, and pressing [<>] gives Sonic slightly more horizontal speed in the beginning of the stage.
I did not know that. Does that also make Sonic gain control sooner?

That clip was kinda awkward. You need to have Sonic's tall hitbox to do it because he'll just fall right through if you do it with his small hitbox. That lightning shield monitor basically forced me to land and then walk back onto Tails's hands. It does look a bit sloppy though. Fixing that will mean that I'll have to redo the rest of the level so I'll do it when we get to there in the actual run. Yeah I used to have trouble with the objects but I've learned about the braking mechanics since that run.

Here's a DEZ1 testrun. Link to video This one took me nearly 20k rerecords to make. I was able to do most of the level at my normal pace, but there were a few segments that took me a lot of effort to get through. The very start. After about 500-1,000 rerecords (it might be much less) I've concluded that letting Sonic gain control by himself was the fastest way to get through there. I could still be wrong though. The turbine room. I thought this would be a quick segment, but then I found myself spending 4 hours with around 4-5k rerecords. I honestly didn't think that this dumb turbine room would take me so much effort lol. And finally there's the miniboss. I tried to get through phase 1 without letting Sonic lose his shield (even though you'd actually want to lose the shield) but that turned out to be a big waste of time. So I just used the method in the current any% tas. I actually had to redo the fight once to make Sonic and Tails switch places because I couldn't deal hit 7 without getting hit myself. After all that madness I was able to pull off a frame perfect phase 1. I'm so glad that phase 2 was much easier. The entire fight took me nearly 5k rerecords to complete. The gmv. I screwed up the sound options again. I'm pretty sure it won't cause any desyncs but you might get low pitched sounds. http://www.yourfilelink.com/get.php?fid=1414709 There's now just 3 more levels that neither of us did any runs are which are SOZ2-LRZ2. If I'm going to do them (which I likely will) I'll put them all in one gmv.

Oh wow that is old. It certainly shows how far you've come despite the fact that you don't tas anymore. I will admit that I never thought about using that ring monitor to skip the second boss. I might improve my SSZ and DEZ2 runs if I find a way to beat the DEZ1 miniboss with Knuckles legitimately. I wonder if there's a way for him to get slope glitch on that level. On another note I'm glad the Sonic and Tails run is back on track too and is still impressive as always.

Here it is. A ring attack in Sonic's Sky Sanctuary with Knuckles. It was relatively simple to make (with the exception of one of the superglides) but I felt like it needed to be done regardless. Link to video

Oh you were already done. Well your run was awesome. So many monitor clips and amazing tricks in general. Don't worry about me. I never even started doing a testrun.

I'm proud to be in your nonexistent history book yogwog. As for how I found that. I'm gonna start off by saying that stuff like the AIZ knuckles rings or the ICZ signpost monitors just took a bit of trail and error with some knowledge of the game to figure out. Overall I never really have much difficulty finding strats like that. Getting Knuckles into Sonic's area in lava reef 1 however was ridiculous. I practically flipped this level upside down trying figure this out. When I first started I didn't even think about getting to Sonic's area from the roof. As you would expected nothing I tried worked. Eventually I just gave up. Sometime later I decided to try again. I used debug mode to see what the terrain in the roof was like. I realized it was very easy to navigate through. So now I was trying to get Knuckles to the roof. After searching for possible spots to get to the roof I found 2 areas. That lava pit (The object clipped me through the wall when I went into it with debug) and that spot at the end of the level (I think we were both going for the same thing there). After hours of no success I gave up again. That is until recently. After I did my DEZ2 ring attack with Knuckles I realized that I knew more about Knuckles (mostly with glide clips) so I tried again. I went for those 2 spots again. I started off with the area at the end. I was mostly trying to glide clip through it since the stair clip wouldn't work. The closest I got was a strange interaction with the floor clipping me into the wall (shown below). Sadly I couldn't jump nor get onto that solid tile from there. I went to the other spot because I wondered if I could get something similar to happen there. I managed to clip into the wall. Going left did practically nothing and going right zipped me back inbounds. Since I was so far in the wall I wondered if a fully charged spindash would give me enough speed to clip through it. As luck would have it did.

Nah go ahead. I'll just do Sonic's sky sanctuary with Knuckles instead.

Good job, kaan55! One more old TAS problem is finally solved :)
Thanks and I'm glad I finally did. It took me 3 maybe even 4 long sessions to find that. Now that I found that I might do a lava reef 1 ring attack with knuckles sometime in the future.

Wow. Even without watching the runs I can tell you and evil made a lot of good improvements to the tas. Keep it up :) As for improvements in ICZ. The only ones I can think of right now are skipping the act 2 boss and using the stacked ice blocks to clip through the floor like in the knuckles tas.

Yeah you can get into Sonic's area like that. Problem is the act 1.5 glitch prevents you from being able to progress further even after reloading the level. It doesn't matter though. I found a method that's simpler and faster. I also showed off Knuckles collecting all 95 rings Sonic's area (this includes the one collected in yogwog's tas). http://www.yourfilelink.com/get.php?fid=1406028 EDIT: Here's the encode Link to video

What other zones would you have to manipulate the rng in? I thought sandopolis was the only one. Also don't think I didn't see the & Knuckles feos and fog ;)

Yeah stair clipping could work. Knuckles won't need to fall directly onto it if he's stair clipping though. He could somehow manuver onto it with his gliding since he jumped. What I was trying to do is glide clip through the floor. I think I got reasonably close to succeeding.

Here's where I'm very close (this is at the end of the level btw). What I want to do here is clip through the floor above onto the tile that knuckles is standing on. Do you think it's doable?

Not really. I never really knew how good my tasing skills with Knuckles was until now. If you think it's good enough I may look into it at some point. The first thing I'll probably do with that is try to find a way to get Knuckles into the Sonic's start in lava reef 1 again. I remember getting very close last time.

I wanted to see how I would do with a Knuckles tas so I made a Death Egg 2 ring attack with him. Tell me what you think. Link to video I might also do Sonic's Sky Sanctuary with him later.

First off good god that was insanity. So many creative tricks. You've once again surpassed my expectations. I'd say continue. Despite the fact that the invincibility music is annoying I find it kinda funny that you broke it in the first place. Plus you'd likely have to do some sloppy movement to prevent it from happening which would kinda kill the pace of the run. Let's see what others have to say about this. Also thanks for the positive feedback on my runs. It really means alot.
