I had a little test on the second level and ended up roughly about 7 frames quicker although I'm pretty sure it possible to gain 4-5 more, I also sacrificed a little at the end for an entertainment opertunity. If you look closely you can see a strange image of Toadstool. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/415089676/Mario%20Adventure%20v2.fcm
AKA: I can do level 2 about 1 second faster, but it ends up that i dont have enough coins if i do it, and also, i can beat your wip without using the trick that lets me go one second faster ^_^ (even if this one gets published, im going to make a second run after to make everything as perfect as possible)

either one would be awesome to see, but considering that this isnt really a tas, more like a superplay, i thought it would be funny to add a little humour to it.

If you could somehow get this board setup, i will instantly vote yes ^_^ (for those too lazy to figure it out, it would say unscrambles this is the worst tool assisted speed run ever) It would only be for a good joke though. =)

Lets find out who can beat every level in world 7 for Mario Adventure the fastest. Some rules are: - Record a .fcm of your attempt - Record from Start (so you cant start with items) - If you get enough money during your playthrough, you can buy items at the toad house to help you out. - No slowdown, frame advance or savestates. - Stop recording when you get back to the warp zone. - Time is counted by the game timer at the end. - The "Hold left when entering level" glitch is allowed. Now, lets see who can do this the fastest! Think your up for the challenge? edit: heres an incredibly shitty run done by me as a little something to start off. It ends with the in game time of 40:06 (with more than 100 or so deaths v_v) http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1350095218/W7%20MA%20Comp.fcm Leaderboards: 1'st - Tompa with 22:00 Video: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1048321401/World7Run.fcm 2'nd - Karterfreak with 22:54 Video: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/310205528/w7c.fcm

All of world 7 is being done because of a better route that should save around a minute and 15 seconds or so.

@ tompala: i was manipulating the boss so that he wouldnt use his wand attack so he would get closer to me faster @ kyrsimys: i tested most other routes, yours was the fastest as far as i can tell.

Well, i know Kyrsimys and Tompala have been waiting quite a while for a new wip, so here it is. World 6 and 7 are now done. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1211303570/Mario%20Adventure%20v2.fcm

no, the smas version of smb2j is alot easier than the fds version, plain and simple. The differences warrant this imo.

Im currently working on an all level run for smb2j. (calling it that because of the reset neccesary to access Worlds A-D) Im in World 3 right now, but before i go any further, im curious about something in Castle levels. Is it possible to get inside of castle bricks while small? I was easily able to do it in non castle levels, but in castle levels i just bounce right off the wall.

yeah, i tried alot of the things mentioned in this topic, the very last thing i could think of was this. Do a combination of the trick with the koopas on the left timed with the koopa turning around on the right. edit: or maybe it might be possible to somehow avoid hitting the top mushroom by getting inside of it, allowing you to extend the jump further and make it that way?

i was just getting to providing a picture, but you saved me the effort. Yeah, basically its too high to jump to the top platform, and the bottom one is too far away because you smash your head off the platform above (and even if you dont you cant jump far enough.)

Unless someone can come up with a decievingly clever way to get past the jump im at in this fcm. this is a lost cause. It was looking pretty good until here. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/5657/Super%20Mario%20Bros.%20%28JU%29%20%5B%21%5D.fcm

you could, but you already have momentum to the right, so by the time you slow down and get enough speed to the left to get your foot stuck in the wall, you could have the block hit and gotten into the door. (edit: no time loss, actually there is a time gain because this allows me to enter the door faster by warping into it, watch that part in frame advance to see what i mean)

hold the frame advance button longer, it wont desync as much. (i mean hold it longer per frame, but dont make it do multiple frames)

i had a solution for that before if you read it, just play through smb a second time for hard mode.

I have money on the fact that mc1 can be improved by making the turns tighter and keeping good luck manipulation to get shrooms while doing so. If I am proved wrong i will record myself eating a hat. Thats how sure i am.

STUPID QUESTION ALERT! Do you have to have P-speed to do the block trick mentioned above, or is there no way in hell?

i agree with kles about the suboptimal part, and there is a side of me that really wants to say no because it seems rather unoptimized (sucks when you have people from the players page here doesnt it). Voting Yes for the sake of having a smk run on the site, but it was a rather close choice for me voting yes. I would say that an optimized run gets a star.

W4 HB's (to get the shoe): 830-840 frames Toad house (for a music box): 785 frames
Does the toad house include the time it takes to select the music box afterwards?
Note that a music box should still be used for the second W4 HB because you only need one shoe. The difference is only about 45-60 frames though.
Does this include the length that it takes to select the music box? If not, then is either the music box or HB's faster?
Getting a shoe inside a level (for example 4-3) wastes about 60-70 frames (unless some good fast strategy I don't know about can be used to get it more quickly) and since getting the shoe from the HBs wastes only something like 45-60 frames, getting a shoe inside a level doesn't seem to be a good choice.
Time it takes to select kuribos shoe included? yadayadayada. If you didn't, good choice or bad choice to get kuribos shoe against an enemy? yadayadayada. edit: this is the place im currently stuck at in my wip, its just too good of an opportunity to pass up, i can start running alot faster this way.

After finding out just how insanely hard a quad run is, i believe i have a new found respect for the megaman quad run. This run is waaay out of my league. I know some of the tricks, but it just doesnt seem to matter. I am dropping this run, anyone who wants to give it a shot, be my guest. But be warned, its insanely hard.

well, i would think it would be faster to grab a mushroom/flower asap then, so that way you can kill those enemies faster. Like i said im aiming for the best improvement i can possibly achieve.
