Wow, nice work moozooh, can't wait to see more progress. :) And if I ever actually do a TAS (don't hold your breath...) I have been thinking of Drew's suggestion that I do a low% run of this... It would be really interesting considering I normally do (near-) 100% runs (which would be a killer for this game as far as route planning...).

I enjoy the ease of use of youtube as much as the next guy but it really hurts to watch 320x240 in full screen when I know the m64 would let me watch it at 1600x1200. Either way any wip is a good wip.

I agree, I appreciate movies for their value in real time, and how am I supposed to notice up to 5 frames of lag? That being said, perhaps you can make it a secondary goal, like if you can come up with an entertaining way to optimize the lag I would be all for it.

Perhaps you could have a single random screenshot that is picked at random from a group of screenshots in the lists, and an expanded view when looking at the movie alone?

I'm not sure, I just trusted Drew about how many we'd need to be honest... I'll look into it soon.

About low%, Drew and I were discussing it on IRC, and here's what we've come up with: Morph Ball Bombs 1x 5 Missile pack 2x 10 Missile pack Wall Jump Boots 4x 2 super missile pack 2x Power bomb 4x Energy Tank Varia Suit Gravity Suit Speed Booster Charge Beam Ice Beam So, unless something's missing, final percentage should be 14.19% if I have the math right; still have to wait on Drew to get home to confirm if a couple of items count towards the final percentage... EDIT: Thanks moozooh. EDIT2: Percentage tentatively final based on furthur info from Drewseph.

Hmm, any possible way that a similar style of bomb jumping could be used to get the high jump boots without the grapple beam?

Those are hardly methods you can use to make a decision. You can tweak the colors using the computer, and then display it on a TV and record it with a VCR. The VCR will mangle the color, quality and sound further.
But will a DVD player mangle the quality like that, which is what was used to capture this run?

Atma and Drewseph were getting the speed booster with 1 power bomb, before killing crocomire. Killing crocomire and getting the speed booster with 2 power bombs shouldn't be more difficult.
It's not the number of power bombs, it's that a lot of stuff changes in western norfair after killing crocomire, including the lava in the aforementioned grapple room (if I'm not mistaken and that it was some other trigger that did that to me).

Yeah, after discussing it with Tub on irc, my next best guess is that he wanted to screw attack Mommy Brain...

I've only watched the run once (yet), but here's some questions:
  • I've been sceptical about getting the "early" power bomb when I watched atma's run, as you'll have to kill crocomire anyway, but in your run it looks just like wasted time. You'll save a bit of trouble entering crocomire's lair, but waste plenty of time on the bomb maze. Is there any reason for grabbing it except to look cool?
  • you're getting a 5th energy tank in maridia, being quite some detour. Is it really needed or faster?
  • you're deactivating the speed booster whenever entering lava. ok, so you're going for ingame-time, not real-time. But why is booser-less samus faster in lava?
  • I always wondered: what's the trigger for the western maridia guardian ? You'll have to be in that nearby room for an earthquake to occur and break the tube, but when will that earthquake be triggered? Anything to do with visiting lower norfair first?
  • I've tried getting speed booster early with crocomire's power bombs, but the lava's too low to ibj out of in the room where one would normally need grapple.
  • From what I can tell, that's needed to survive Mother Brain.
  • Yes, Samus is faster in lava without the speed booster. I lost the quote, but when I asked on irc he told me it was a programming error that Kejardon didn't know how to fix at the time (or something like that).
  • Killing the 4 main bosses is my best guess, since I killed Ridley in a game that skipped Kraid and still that tube wouldn't break until I saw what a pathetic joke the giant is against the beam combo...

This run was highly entertaining, with very precise and unexpected flying, and to top it all off, it's an autoscroller. No vote. j/k I voted yes. :P

Wierd, Samus has the speed booster and I've had no desync problems, and I'm using v2.0 headered. :/

You can also see an example of that by flying into the big tower of the castle and ending up behind the front door...

The last WIP I saw in this topic (the one from Saturn) ended with samus getting the wall jump boots. ;) EDIT: Note the red underlined text in the following screenshot. ;)

So it's not an improvement because it only saves a few seconds in a community where previous runs are obsoleted by a matter of a few frames? Sorry, I'm just feeling argumentative tonight... <_<

Yeah, but most of your restarts were because of improvements you discovered. GB is starting over because of a route error or desync.
So the web skip is not considered an improvement? Could have fooled me then...

You're talking about that digging game south of the village of outcasts? He gives you a spade to use during the course of the game, so you don't need to avoid getting the flute to get the piece of heart, just use your mighty TAS prowess to dig it up in one go, and perhaps even manipulate it close to where you start the game.
