That makes sense, but when you do the BLJ in BOB, do you press A every frame the elevator goes up or every other frame? If you press A every frame, the game thinks you're holding A so the BLJ doesn't work.

I guess I don't understand frame advance very well. Can Mupen tell the difference between tapping "A" and holding "A"? Whenever I hold "A" and press the frame advance button, it thinks I'm tapping "A" just once.

So when AKA said the lag wasn't noticeable during TASing, it is because of frame advance?

Does TASvideos time runs based on number of frames or real time? If it is the former than you don't have to worry about lag issues.

approximately how many seconds would lag cost you throughout the whole run? If it is a significant number, then you should probably use bad camera angles.

I don't have much knowledge of TASing, but is it possible that you can go back and redo stars that you feel could be optimized further? Since Mario has the same exit animation after getting every star, you can cut out the part where he gets the star, improve upon it, and then paste it back in. As long as you keep the "entering the painting" animation intact, it shouldn't affect the rest of the run. Or does going back and redoing a star permanently screw up the .m64 file?

Ok, scratch that, maybe this game isn't a good TAS choice.

Does this game have any potential for a TAS?

He starts running around in circles right after he says "now I can shoot stuff out of my fists." I'm using Rayman 2 (U) [!].z64

How come when you first gain control of rayman he just runs around in circles and bumps into walls?

just wondering ... with the stomp the thwomp star, is there any way you could triple jump to the wall behind the thwomp, and then repeatedly wall kick between that wall and the thwomp all the way to the star?

which door? the one outside under the moat?

I think you mean slopes you cant walk up (or stand still on). AKA is able to blj up the slope in lobby (the one that looks like stairs) just fine.
That's because he used the lobby glitch to BLJ, and then paused the movie so that it looked like he used the lobby stairs to BLJ. You can only BLJ on stairs if you can visibly see Mario bobbing up and down as he walks up or down. On the lobby stairs, Mario doesn't shake at all because it's just a slope with stair graphics.

A one star run is highly improbable. AKA already showed that it is useless to enter the second floor early. Unless there is a glitch that allows you to drop through the top of the castle into the third floor, 16 stars is the bare minimum.

What do you mean dive? before getting the vanish cap? it would perhaps make 2 frames difference if it was straighter. It takes a lot of time to optimize angles in this game (or any analog game i presume).
Pressing B when you're running. I thought it could save a few frames during the igloo straightaways, whereas you were just running.

Looks very good, but why did you skip the red coin in the 100 coin star? Or was that too out of the way? Maybe you could do more forward diving in the igloo?

Youtube says it's a private video and I need to accept a friend request. Is there a way to get around this?

it should only take 18-19 seconds to get the BtB star, so you'll still be at least 23 seconds ahead.

Looks pretty good, and I know it's unoptimized, but one suggestion is to wall kick at a particular angle so you land on the far side of the green platform, so you don't have to run back in order to get enough space for the triple jump.
