There's a history to it. 1) Backwalking is discovered on console. Because it is so incredibly easy to do, it is used for all speedruns. 2) Guano's TAS. Backwalking is used, Sidehopping occassionally used, only for very short distances or some uphill slopes. 3) GuanoFlop WIP. Sidehopping is deemed fastest movement for uphill and downhill, backwalking (foolishly) used for everything flat. 4) Mukki finishes his Majora's Mask TAS, and I started looking for speed addresses for MM. I found the exact one, and noted that backwalking has a few frames where it's building up momentum. Sidehopping, as I suspected, had an initial speed faster than max backwalking speed, slowed down mid hop, then when falling the speed increased back to above backwalking max speed. 5) SwordlessLink TASes first segment of Majora's Mask using only sidehops and gains 2 seconds. 6) SwordlessLink and I did some tests, and found sidehopping to be faster even in very large distances. It's also faster for cutting corners better, since in for example Kokiri forest in the maze backwalking was used with sidehops in only non-diagonal movements, whereas moving in diagonals is far faster with sidehopping.

It used to be assumed that side hopping was only faster on hills, for some reason. That's why it was never fully used until my run.
This was because visually it was incredibly easy to tell that for uphill and downhill segments, sidehopping is faster. Sidehopping's speed is the highest at the start of the hop, and after the peak. If going up a hill, Link constantly lands on the ground before his max speed decreases to backwalking speed. When going downhill, Link has more frames where his speed is above backwalking, and iirc it even increases the more he is in the air and falling. Keep in mind, OoT has many speedrunners and most of the discoveries come from them. This includes forms of movement. When they found supersliding, it became essential for the TAS. The old TAS mimicked the backwalking strategies used in speedruns. Sidehopping is incredibly hard to do in realtime consecutively, it is only noticeably faster when done frame optimally (pressing A 7 frames before Link touches the ground.) And I never bothered to test it, even though I probably should have. So there you have it.
Let's get all the facts straight. Sidehopping is always faster as young Link, and backwalking is always faster as adult Link. Easy, mkay?

No offense, but the quality is extremely subpar in that wip. Here's some reasons off the top of my head 1) There's no need to use the big balloon at all 2) there were times when you almost stopped moving in order to get a red coin or flower, you should always be moving at or near top speed 3) you hovered off some enemies unnecessarily 4) poor egg management 5) why did you kill the piranha plant with his own cacti when you could've just used an egg instead? 6) You should never use checkpoint rings to get the stars. edit: actually in 4-3 there might be no other way to get 30 stars so sorry for outburst #6. Although in general you should use the little cloud thingies as well as ricochetting eggs for stars.

I'd like to see a run use every trick possible and then have boss battles in another category.

New tricks are always good. Inichi have you started recording yet or are you still in the testing phase?

He probably means 1.43, which is what about 98% SNES TASes are done with here.
No, he was definitely talking about ZSNES

It seems like the highest glitched velocities of many games are just the maximum value of the signed datatype, for example the GT3 one is 2^31 - 1 (32 bit signed) and the max speed of zelda 2 and battle of olympus are 2^7-1 (8 bit signed)

Good run on one of my favorite games, I liked how you did runway without the tank and somehow managed to survive 2 seconds with 0 health and guards blasting away at you. I also recently found an address for in-level frame counter so if you work on an improvement you only have to get 1 frame below every second (47.9833333, 129.9833333, etc), and it'll round down the ingame seconds at the end. The movie desynched at the train for me but I noticed you missed 47 in Depot by just 5 frames.

This game is hell for finding addresses. There's no single universal speed address, instead it appears that every course (in adventure mode) has separate speed addresses for car/hover/plane, as well as the overworld, and Tracks mode as well. Which means there are anywhere between 123 to 138 speed addresses you have to monitor.

This can be a good learning experience for you, although the extra collectibles are unnecessary for 100% and will not make the goals different enough for submission. I'm sure that if you show wips many members will give you advice and identify mistakes.

Looks like he did the blj from inside the deloaded 2nd floor, which requires the lobby BLJ to get into anyway, so it's slower in the end.

32 frames is practically unnoticeable, especially if it's due to an oversight and not poor tasing. My SMB2 tas could be ~41 frames faster depending on how the frame rule works, due to an oversight, but it was still published. Now if it was on the order of, say, minutes lost because of oversight(s), then yes a rejection would be warranted (case in point: the turok submission), but I think this movie should be published.

Another issue is a "category or goal change" obsoletion, such as Mortal Kombat 2 or Zanac. Actually I'm not sure if the warp in Zanac counts as a cheat or not, if not then it doesn't have this issue.
