I haven't watched your WIP yet, so idk if it includes this, but... Toad runs WAY faster with a POW block. For tips on anything in the game, ask me. I've TASed it (with a time of 12 minutes) and UASed it (18).
Hmm I didn't know that ... originally I tested both luigi and toad and it seems luigi is slightly faster because he can collect the last red coin without assistance from the bug thingy, but I'm not sure if this can make up for that. I'll wait until you watch it and give some more thoughts.

How can you do anything BUT a 101% run? IIRC there is no real ending until you get all 101 bananas. Hey, look on the bright side, we can set some Donkey Kong (arcade game) and Jetpack TAS records. I wonder if the up+down glitch works on the game's port of Donkey Kong. It will get quite boring after a while. I don't remember, but you don't have to collect every single character banana, right?
This game is weird in that route planning would be simpler for the 101%, no need to nitpick which (golden) bananas you need. You don't need every character banana, only enough to get the required number of banana medals as well as to open the boss doors.

Wait, are you guys talking about SMA2 or SMA? If SMA, then here is a WIP of the first level, I might have to redo the birdo fight.

I've played this game a lot (albeit years ago) and the tas is something I might take up if there are no desynch issues, although planning a whole new route would be a bitch. I vaguely remember something about 100 golden bananas being absolutely required and that among those 100 you must get enough blueprints or else you won't have enough time in hideout helm. Also resets would help in this game because it drops you off at the mouth on DK island, which would save time in backtracking.

The problem is that if edits bumped a topic you wouldn't know which post was edited, it could be post 1 or post 256 or whatever.

I think there will just be too much controversy over which glitches are and aren't acceptable so maybe the 100% run should utilize every glitch known and replace the current non-glitch any% run.

Will the extra levels be done 100% as well? That would require a reset at some point after beating bowser.

That is completely unrelated to rerecording features and most likely cannot be done by the members here. Maybe you'll have more luck here

Could be useful. I was wondering why ircatwork wasn't working.

Seriously, though, why does it have to be like that? It looks like every good SNES emulator we currently have around has to have some severe issue. ZSNES has totally unusable interface and desyncs on flat ground, Snes9x 1.51 randomly desyncs and has issues with sound, bsnes has no TAS tools built in whatsoever (not to mention its hardware burden).
There's always snes9x 1.43v10, which IMO is one of the most reliable of all emulators, not just snes.

It probably takes at least an hour to download even the smallest N64 roms with dial-up. Broadband isn't expensive anymore these days.

When I checked the movies on this sites it seemed like every one of them suddenly lost all their ratings - was this an intentional reset or a problem with IE? edit: hmm it seems like when I try to rate a movie it doesn't register.

This was interesting reading, because it presents things that should be improved in the site. How could be improve the information value in order to avoid misguiding slightly ignorant people like you? :)
Theoretically the best way to attract more members is to upload every run to archive.org, but that would take too long. I didn't know how any of the bittorrent stuff worked around a year ago so I downloaded the SM64 run from archive. Actually SMB3 was the first tas I saw (April 2006) but I considered it little more than a novelty so I still really wasn't drawn to tases. However the SM64 tas absolutely floored me as I spent hundreds of hours on that game and had gotten used to all the slow methods, and that movie snapped me out of it.

I think this is what he means: If you used a cheat code of some description to go up to where the 2nd star is, would the star be there, even though the tower to get there is not?
Using a gameshark to moon jump you can test that quite quickly.

We'd be glad to if you make us a PC rerecording emulator.

Don't know if this has been mentioned, but when I open a .fcm with no input, just blank frames, in tas movie editor 0.12 the editor freezes up the whole computer, requiring a ctrl-alt-del to fix.

Sorry for the bump, but with the announcement that checkers is solved it got me wondering whether it would be a harder task for a computer (without any human assistance like narrowing the search) to find the fastest route through SMB1 or solving chess, since chess is at least 10^20 times more complex than checkers. Obviously 3D games cannot be considered at the moment because they have infinitely more routes than 2d sidescrollers.

I think someone should make a run of the first Bowser stage, from start to the pipe, without getting red coins, and compare it to a run where the red coins are acquired, and looking at the time it takes to get the star "Hot-foot-it into the Volcano". With the very fast stars we do now, and knowing that you can BLJ on those moving platforms in bowser 1, it might be faster to just not get the red-coin star in bowser 1.
I timed the 15:08 run and it gets to the pipe in 50 sec (including the 5 sec animation of getting the star), while the best run without red coins is ~29 sec, so it takes 16 sec to get the coins, which means we need to find another star that takes less than 16 sec to get (I can't think of any atm)
