Sorry, I was wrong about MP gain on rank up. MP goes up by 15 after each spirit, not by ranking up. Spirit gems also give 5 MP which is not enough for this run. No need to take extra damage, yes! Btw, Toothache. If I manage to finish this run, will you do 100% item when you get a new computer?

I have to ask you if it's entertaining to take damage when it doesn't slow you down (running to flames in Spirit rooms)? When you take damage and heal, your rank goes up and hp and mp increases. Hp increasement is not needed but the mp growth is somewhat significant (1st rank up from 115 to 130) and somewhere it could save time. You can keep your spirit summoned for a longer time without sacrificing frames to item hunting for example. I'd go without taking excessive damage, even if it will possibly slow you down somewhere.

Yes, I can do it later when I have advanced a little farther.

Got second spirit, Efreet (4:10): http://www.freewebs.com/suklaalevy/files/loo2.ymv Sorry for noncompressed file. (Free)Webs sometimes breaks smaller files and Microstorage doesn't support newer gamefiles yet. For some reason the movie desynchs at 9000 frames when it's played for first time. On second time it works. Can someone confirm this movie works? About running Just like in the prequel on SG you begin to skid when you run for certain amount of frames. In this case 11 frames (animation). The skidding takes 22 frames, so it has to be avoided. The optimal way is to run to a wall or object which will stop you. The other way is to run 11 frames, pause for one frame and continue running.

No need to wish Legend of Oasis. I'll do it with or without Toothache. I tested it but there's some issues with loading savestates and resuming recording.

Looking very good. No leveling for Dark Knight \O/ For DarkSol, I guess you need a little over 200 hp for each character. Let's say levels 22-24.

Darksol casts it every round after both hands have been defeated. Right?
No. DarkSol can also attack with his mace-like tail once or twice a turn.

Dark Knight in two turns? Z does perhaps 250 (a number from hat) with critical. Pyra does 64 with FireStaff and Gila whoops for 75. That's barely in three turns if DK regenerates for 100 / turn.

-Crystal Ooze level ups. Get Forbidden Box from Serpi and manipulate instakill for 8 Crystal Oozes. -Magic Ring (Lokjaw) abuse. I don't know if Magic Ring has limited amount of charges or is the breaking based on luck.

I didn't know Blackbone could be skipped (end of Lab 3). And I was also surprised to see you rushing straight to Lab level 4. So, Z needs to get hp+def to withstand one hit from Dark Knight without defending and Milo be alive to heal Z (with healerfruits)? Also, isn't Light Blade needed from Lab 4. It doesn't take much time. Frost Armor could be the fastest armor to grab from a chest.

This game is pretty easy to manipulate via brute forcing. Here is up to GrimWall- you were sort of right about level 6. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/99860035/Shining%20in%20the%20Darkness%20(U)%20%5B!%5D.gmv
Awesome Gila+FireStaff tactics, "Wachunga!" \O/ What if you saved Milo to be sacrificed to GrimWall? Is Pyra-Gila duo going to handle the rest of the game? This is like watching a good TV series, only much more entertaining.

Wow, I liked it much :) It would be not very entertaining until Tortolyde in 2nd cave, though. Maybe you could beat Tortolyde at 6th lvl if you manipulate it to attack only you. First cave is probably a walk-through and then surprise fights against two to three-enemy-groups before Tortolyde to reach lvl 6.

Very nice! I have waited for a proper run and it's finally here. Boss fights are very well done and some upper exits were surprising. But you could give some credit to Cardboard for some of his tricks, isn't that the custom here? And the exits after bosses can be done 28 frames faster if you don't lean to edge of the screen before it starts scrolling. Gather some speed before that. I give my vote when you have fixed this.

I'm not the correct person to teach how to use SNES emulator but... Frame advance - Input > Customize Hotkeys Frame advance does what it sounds. Advances one frame (1/60 second). Maybe reading the FAQ first would help. You press the "action keys" and then you press the frame advance key. When you're just walking you can hold down the frame advance key. Make sure you have "show pressed keys" toggled on, so you see what keys you pressed in the previous frame. Play on keyboard. You can assign hotkeys for speed settings. I'm not familiar with this because I played whole run with frame advance.

Slow motion for easy parts and frame advance in harder parts. Without frame advance it would be hard to compare what is the fastest play. I don't know about the luck manipulation. If attacking at the first possible frame didn't work I tried the next one. I don't think this game will get a published run unless there are glitches found. For example, to kill bosses faster.

Play movie with read-only unchecked. Frame advance to a point where you like to continue and Movie record > record from now edit: Nvm, Alden said it. I'm not sure anymore. It has been a long time since I used a SNES emulator... A place where to upload Work in Progress: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php I did a test run on hard difficulty. I watched your wip and wondered did you play frame-by-frame or just slow-downed. Isn't it faster to jump on enemies and get bumped to right?

Gotta test hex-editing for this game soon. Memory Watch helped to kill ant lion almost a second faster. And I fear if leveling up in the beginning really pays off.

Thx for the tip. I'm not familiar with this game either. Again I started running without learning all the moves :/ Other address for bosses is 00FFF7FD. It's for Red Wizard's head and for the "water boss" near the end. Calculating damage is quite difficult since it's not linear. At least I figured that AP is for low charge (32/64) and gets +2 for every next charge level (4 levels each 8/64).

Thanks Aqfaq! I saw the boss hp in address 00FFF7DD. :O Now I need the test and analyse the damage but here's a WIP for first seven minutes: http://www.freewebs.com/suklaalevy/files/megadrive/Exile-7m.rar

Test run without frame advance ( 31:35 ): http://www.freewebs.com/suklaalevy/files/megadrive/Exile.rar I'll try last bosses with a better sword from a shop and level up once if the fights could be much more shorter. Last boss took 192 seconds which is quite unacceptable. Edit: Not many of the downthrusts land on boss, but maybe memory watch is needed to confirm. My IQ is not high enough to understand where to find correct values, going to need help there. At lvl 8 (1 lvlup) I reduced the boss time to 102 seconds with nonperfect (?) downthrusts. Edit cont: You can buy attack power boosting tonics from shops but I don't see my AP value going up after using them. I think the sword I bought in Japan and forgot to equip can be skipped and buy the 2nd best in the game instead. Retrieving the best sword from "water boss'" palace takes too much time to even consider. So, I'll take your advice if anyone has played this before.

I completed in 27:25 (Microstorage was down, I'll change the link later) without DNAs. I could try seriously with all DNAs. Satan, did you check the number of DNAs in maps you gave? I got 51 (8-8-7-10-8) + 2 from special rounds in each level. So, one DNA could be skipped (obviously one special round). And does one DNA from 4th level go to 3rd level's DNA helix?

Very nice work Flip! But I have to ask, did you watch my run: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/303028715/EarthwormJim.gmv First level can be ended 1 frame faster if you stand more right when Jim takes a rocket from his pocket. 4:13 - 45 frames When you make a jump you should whip the wheel once. Then run down and jumpwhip the wheel again to open the gate. Run under the gate and then jump left on top of it's spikes and you can reach the platform without grabbing. 7:38 - 27 frames Press up and right when you are swinging and you are sucked into tube. 8:38 - 2 frames You can blast the enemy a couple of frames earlier. This was hardest to spot since I didn't have a blaster and got my ass spanked here :)

Sorry to come here this late. @ 1:35 You can jump from wheel to left. From 2:10 to 2:18 you can improve 85 frames. Check my movie.
