I am fairly new to the site. I found out about TAS roughly about 8 months ago and registered for this forum just a bit more than a month. I've read thru most (if not all) of the tricks and faq/info pages and understand how to slow down or speed up the game and also re-recording and frame advance. I've tried to make some recordings (not necessary speedruns) just to get a hang of how to make a TAS. I started with Super Mario Bros (NES, PRG0) because that's the game I am very familiar with and love. And I have no trouble playing on a real NES or emulator to get to the so-called minus world. I found that I have trouble performing many of the tricks mentioned in the tricks page (like wall jump, or jump into solid wall) I think I might have picked the wrong game.... but exactly how do you perform those tricks? It would be nice if there's a fool-proof tutorial showing a TAS newbie how to do it. Is there such a tutorial in existence ? Thanks!

This isn't gonna make it, is it? Please save my day spezzafer and tell me you're just about finished with world 6 and about to submit the run.
The 100% run provided by spezzafer is awesome. I am hoping for the same (that spezzafer is just about finished with world 6 and ready to submit). However, I bet he's super busy with other things.

Enrai gave me an idea for two more ideas on SMB TAS: -- re-phrase what Enrai said, a warp-less TAS without killing any enemy. (or maybe coinless & without killing any enemy) -- a warp-less run that kills every enemy that shows up on the screen. Is this even possible ? Might be too hard to kill all of the "flying birds".

Yeah, I like the coin idea too. But I'd also suggest extending it to points in general; this would also bring killing lots of enemies into the picture, and the result would generally pwn. :)
I like the max-coins idea because it will pretty much force the user to go into every secret room to grab the extra coins. I dont' like the idea of extending it to points. The reason is simple. One can simply use the jump-repeatly-on-a-turtle-shell (or similar) trick to rack up points (the same method as getting unlimited 1-up, but use it for points instead). So, it doesn't really do much. On the other hand, the max-coin is almost a sure way to guarantee a fun run.

This would be very similar to the warpless run, only slower at each flag pole (is it even possible to grab every flag from behind?). I think the gimmick would get old pretty quick.
Well, the interesting part here is to see the tricks used to go pass the flag pole.

This actually isn't possible (because of pipes, etc.). Getting the maximum number of coins for each level might be interesting, but only if glitches could be abused to get more coins than should normally be possible.
My bad, you're right, it's impossible to get every coin in a level. It's certainly nice to a run that collects the maximum coins. I think a max-coin TAS is nice as it will most likely go thru all of the secret "rooms" to collect the extra coins. Not to mention that it's fun to see how fast you can pop those coin-boxes. I think you can get more coins if you pop it qicker. None of the SMB TAS on this site does this. I am still new to the TAS thing, anyone up for this task ?

This I would actually find interesting to watch, mainly because I've only played this game a few times, and haven't seen all the levels. Major question: do some of the tricks from SMB1 carry over to this game, and if so, how many and which?
I have seen all of the levels... I just haven't seen all of them in one run. Given that the patch for the 24-stars is already available, I am surprised that no one created a TAS for this yet.

I have some TAS ideas for Super Mario Brothers. If a TAS already exist, please let me know where I can find it. Thanks! -- a speedrun grabs every flag pole from behind. -- a coinless speedrun, I know this has been mentioned but I don't see any movies of it yet. -- a speedrun that gets every coin in every level. I think this is probably the best version of Tetris on NES. Anyone tried to do a run to MAX out the score for Tengen's version of Tetris ?

Very interesting indeed. It's nice to see that CtrlAltDestroy can get thru 300+ pieces each. From the recording, it seems like you can leavel just one line opening instead of two line opening. That will probably get pass 400 pieces each. Still, it will die... just slower. Nice hack and nice recordings. Thanks!

I think it's interesting to see a TAS for the Mortal Kombat Series (MK trilogy and/or MK4) -- mainly to see fatalities. mmm... I can't remember any more about morphing... after you morphed, you can perform the morphed character's fatality ? If the answer is yes, it would be awesome to see a run with many (or all) char's fatalities.

Not necessarily true. He can name it wip-v99.01 .... not sure if you call that 2 digits or 4 digits. Or maybe even wip-v99a. hehe... ;-)

In many of the SMB2 TAS runs, I've seen the char can climb up ladders very quick (as if it's flying up the ladder). I read the SMB2 tricks page and I didn't find any mention of how to climb up the ladder quickly. How do you perform the trick ? Thanks!

You know you can grab the flag from behind in world 1-1 right? I discovered it while fooling around so did anyone beat me to the punch? my glitchy run with 1-1 behind the flag grab
Thanks, that's interesting to grab the flag the other way around. I wonder if that's possible with every level.

I think my Virtual NES Emulator is to old, because it always desync in Worl 2.1 with every ROM I try. PRG0, PRG1 and PC10. But to this point it looks great. The funny thing is, I already download the movie file near over a year ago. Not sure why I found it or how anymore.
I used the "virtuanes092e.zip" downloaded from this site and it plays the file ok with PRG0. BTW is there an emulator movie file for the "crazy god technique" run ? So, I can only find the recording AVI for it.

I vote YES. Given that I've played SF since it was released, none of the combos or moves look interesting to me. However, I did find the fight with Barlog pretty nice. He managed to pull out 7, 8, 9, and 10-hit combos in those two rounds. The 11-hit combo with Sagat is about the most impressive to see in this run. Well done!

SSF is an excellent Sega Saturn Emulator... As far as I know, it's the best so far. So, I've tried 6 different games and they all work fine.

I didn't see any mention of "Beatle Adventure Racing". This racing game is very fun to play and there are many shortcuts. Other than Mario Kart 64, I like this racing game the most. If you haven't played this game, give it a try. Do you think it's worth to do a TAS on this game ?

Given that there are many shortcuts and cool tricks in Wave Race 64, I think it would be nice to see a TAS run of htis game.

I just watched the first 24 stars of FODA's 120 stars run, I think it's amazing. He's showing many new (at least to me) tricks and shortcuts. I will finish watching the rest of them tonight. Can't wait to see the final version of this. Keep up with the amazing work! Thanks!
