xnamkcor: I believe that's the plan. I think some post here said that when such a run is completed, it will probably obsolete both this run and the no-upgrades run.

No problem! I haven't had a chance to find a copy of this game for myself, so I haven't played it. I think GameFAQs illustrated the minimum route needed to reach Phalanx, but I didn't check on that too closely. It would be cool if a TAS could skip more stages, like the ones which only give you life extensions.

The run looks pretty good to me. It seems like your run is comparable in speed to The Brookman's run in comparable places. The fight against Flyer was my favorite. This should be a good any% run to go with the 100% run. Out of curiosity, what are the minimum requirements to meet Phalanx?

Good improvement! For a repetitive arcade-style action game, this is fairly interesting, especially when you get into some crazy firefights in Level 4. It took me a second to realize that some of the waiting around in Level 2 was actually to manipulate the elevator patterns. That was a nice touch. I went with Meh on this one.

I don't have anything really to contribute about whether this particular branch should be publishable; I think the relevant points have already been mentioned. I just wanted to say the run is quite entertaining, showing great care with weapon use and lag reduction. Also, the movie list in Nico with the improvement details is very well done; thank you, hidaigai, for the helpful comments!

Spikestuff, I don't know if this game has extra stuff after the credits that would warrant extra button presses at the end. I'm sure the author can check on this though. As for 100%, the naming is strange, but it's going by the same conventions that the previous movie (by FractalFusion and Graveworm) used. The player collects every item that affects the subscreen, unlocking the Shoryuken. It's not worth it to collect Zero's parts, since it drastically changes the route and because it takes more time to fight the 3 extra miniboss fights than you save by having Zero repaired at the end of the game. Maybe you could call this "all upgrades" instead, but I think that would cause more confusion than it solves. In the discussion of Hetfield90's latest movie (the one cited in the submission here), it seems that people decided both categories were worth keeping.

Great job! I also agree with the goals you had in mind for the run. It was fun to see Samurai Shodown get broken. I also liked the PvC fights a good bit, since they showed off a pretty fluid character with several ways of dominating their opponent.

I get way too much glee seeing Digger get crushed by the rock in the bonus stages. I'm not sure why... maybe his stupidly large smile has to do with it. Nice run! I am not sure I really notice the changes too well between this and the published run, but inprovements are awesome. Besides, there was a frame war on this game, and you've now gone and obsoleted that entire war.

Not really sure which tree you mean. This one? I don't lose any horizontal speed from landing on that one. I ended up on the very edge of the tree, actually - Captain Comic stands on it for a frame before walking off, which looks kind of funky because it resets his y-speed and the frame he's on the tree isn't really visible. I suppose if you watched the video it would look even worse, because for some reason the quality came out kinda poor this time :S
Thanks for addressing my question. That's the tree I was talking about. I got the impression that you hit its right side a little bit when you jumped up to it. Since you mentioned that hitting walls makes you lose your speed, I was figuring that using the teleporter would avoid that speed loss. But it seems like there was no issue after all. Thanks again!

Good minor improvement of a fairly ho-hum game. The music gets annoying though. The teleporter use is the most interesting part. By the way, around the 6:40 mark on the video, it seems like you jump on top of a tree but briefly lose some speed doing so. (It's the first tree you encounter in that room.) Could you teleport on top of the tree to save any time?

Wow, I'm surprised my questions saved a little time. I was asking them as a novice who didn't realize the route changes that were possible. Anyway, thanks for improving this!

Nice run! Good job discovering that you could turn backwards occasionally while still maintaining speed. I have some small questions though. * Why do you get the green dinosaur at the end of World 1? Is it faster than the red dinosaur? * In the last world, there's a cave stage where you ride up a cloud to skip the rest of the stage. However, at that point, you're really close to the exit anyway, so I would guess that the cloud-riding animation takes longer. How much time does that cloud save? By the way, that was a really clever ending. Great job!

Really nice! This had to be difficult to optimize, and I can't really compare this to the other run easily without watching the two side-by-side. But it's definitely a good improvement and an interesting watch when you barely graze so many enemies and avoid death.

Neat. The original run of this game wasn't that interesting to me, but that's because I didn't pay enough attention to the actual rules of the game. It's good to revisit this. It looks nice and speedy, and the occasional use of those all-clear white blocks was cool to see. I'd say this is sufficiently entertaining for 1 minute to get a Yes vote!

Brilliant! The end of Sreddal is especially amazing. Out of curiosity, what in the world do the letters mean in Spellbound?

Interesting job here. The hack actually makes really significant changes to Ceres, for instance, and the idea of a Warp Station is sort of cool. I feel like there aren't as many interesting enemy layouts, though, with too much empty space, and the game really overuses blue colors in its palette. The shinespark usage is pretty cool. It gets slowed down a lot once you make a lot of turns though. I would guess that it makes a 100% run look more repetitive, though, since you could probably shinespark a lot of places instead of using space jump. Did I also see bullets fly differently in this version? It looked like you were able to make angled shots that I think are impossible in the original game. And how do you get infinite super missiles fighting against Mother Brain? I'm somewhere between Meh and Yes here in terms of entertainment. Regardless, the technical level of play looks very high. Nice job!

Nice going. The cloud rides look especially smoothly manipulated. Thanks for probably the oddest bit of credit I've ever gotten :-) From watching the encode, it seems like the dancing is a little offsync with the music (your moves happen a little bit too late), but I appreciate the gesture!

Wow! You've been on a roll with breaking the heck out of games with glitches. I thought that used to be Aqfaq's job ;-) This is surprising, but I don't know ultimately if it's entertaining, especially since the character is offscreen for so much of the time. I'm going with Meh. However, congratulations for reducing a game to 3/4 of its previous length.

Thank you, god of destruction and Spikestuff, for encodes. The game is totally a copy of Solstice. (A little Wikipedia research, though, suggests that Knight Lore for the ZX Spectrum came first for isometric platformers.) The lack of music really hurts the entertainment, and the character doesn't have much interesting interaction with items. There are a few cool places where you pull off improbable block jumps though. Good route optimizations. Unfortunately, it's a game where breaking it doesn't really look all that interesting. I'm going to have to go with Meh on this one.

Nice going! The game seems to flow pretty well for a GB platformer, and the music is cool. The glitches were awesome too, since they didn't trivialize everything about the game (you still have to traverse some major parts of some levels) but made the run a lot shorter. Great job on getting a number of quality runs out lately, RobynS!

Fair enough, andypanther. I've seen some racing games where a handicap made things more interesting. Thanks for the info.

We have enough precedent to allow runs from SRAM if the setup is verified and if there is a substantial-enough reason why a run from SRAM is preferred. Thus, if we're judging whether SRAM usage is a good idea, we have to address the difficulty of the run. On that note, is there a verification file for the SRAM usage?
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. ALAKTORN, I think the relevant question should be the one we bring up any time an easier difficulty is used: does the harder difficulty make things any more interesting, as opposed to just making the characters grind for longer? With Diddy Kong Racing, for instance, there's the added entertainment of seeing the handling of an inferior car when you don't use NG+. On the other hand, the easier difficulty is used in Kaze Kiri since harder difficulty causes no strategy changes. (Earthworm Jim 2 had similar reasons for using easy difficulty.) In this case, I believe a lower-powered vacuum wouldn't change any strategies of how to manipulate luck or suck up ghosts. It would mean that more Boos would escape the room, so the player would have to hunt down ghosts in more rooms. That just adds on to the length of the movie while giving no new content or strategy. In this NG+ run, however, there's the added amazement of being able to barely suck up a 300HP Boo before it gets out of the room. I will say, though, that the standards you mention do seem inconsistent for MMZX. That's a more minor point though, since the actual gameplay time is unaffected there. With Luigi's mansion, the vacuum's strength is a major factor affected by the use of NG+.
