Nice enough run on a game I didn't really know about. My vote is to stay on Normal difficulty, especially if it's the game default. The boss patterns don't seem so interesting to make Hard difficulty worth the extra time.

I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) That first screenshot would be amazing, if you could specify which frame it is so that a publisher can make a better-quality image. Fun movie. I still think Smash 64 is harder to watch than the faster-paced sequel games, but this is still awesome.

Hi Bisqwit! Neat to see you on a post again. I might be able to address these comments. * There is a bit of extra thrown candy, but I think some of it might be for lag management. For example, the sound that you get from the candy hitting an enemy can overwrite part of the music (I heard that prominently in Dream 7). I also know the old submission said that throwing candy affects your jump height from water in Dream 4. * Wasn't there only one death in Dream 2? That's a time-saving warp since you would otherwise have to walk out of the tunnel and have the screen fade out a while.

Wow! Nightmare Land is absolutely incredible. I also like the route changes in Dream 2, and that one damage boost in Dream 4 to dive in the sand sooner is really clever.

This game is always a fun watch, and it's nice to see an improvement. Apart from the stage 1 playaround on the truck, the only other major change I noticed was from the robot minibosses in the last stage. You beat the third one before you took any damage, which I think is better than previous runs could do.

I'm pretty familiar with the Kaizo hack scene, and this looks like a reasonably good choice of game to show off with a TAS. The run is a good modest length (which makes this a better choice than something like Super Calm Bros), and you take good advantage of playaround opportunities. (My favorite involved the parabeetle airwalks.) I still think Kaizo Bros 3 is a more interesting speedgame, but this has its charm. I don't remember if the judging criteria is still stricter for accepting new hacks. Regardless, I was entertained, and I voted yes. As a side note, it's a shame you have to take an intentional death to refresh the giant powerup blocks. I knew that Kaizo Bros 3 had that problem, but I was hoping future game design would avoid that. Granted, it's only really a problem for deathless runs, which are hard-if-not-impossible for real-time runners...

I'll admit that I only found this interesting because of the subtitles, since I've never really played this game before and wouldn't be able to follow along in realtime otherwise. But with a little side explanation of some puzzles, this went pretty smoothly. Nice job optimizing the game, especially an adventure game which really doesn't seem friendly to controller input for selecting actions.

Minor note: Isn't the palace 6 boss actually named Barba in the original game lore? It would make sense for it to also be Volvagia, to refer to the same dragon as in Ocarina of Time. Anyway, great run. I wasn't sure I'd enjoy it that much compared to warpless branches, but the XP routing was amazing, and it was neat to see keys as well.

That Krang (aka Langer) fight was ridiculously good. I don't know what happened there either... maybe someone could give a better English translation? Great job and great submission text.

Out of curiosity, what time would this count as by RTA standards? I know RTA stops when you go into your ship at the end, whereas TAS ends at last input with the dialogue. Awesome to see an improvement to this. Rather timely, since I've been seeing Oatsandgoats running this game lately.

Nice idea of a challenge mode actually. I voted yes, as it's solid enough entertainment for two minutes. Lazy of the game to have a right-handed animation for a left-handed bowler though ;-)

I don't think this needed to be a whole separate submission, but it's still a great movie. I love Batman TASes, and it's nice to see the game still had some more improvements. Stages 4-1 and 5-1 are probably my favorite because of how well you manage lag, but the improvement in 3-1 is really cool. That's the most clever use of taking damage to save time.

I like the route change, though it's a shame if it ends up being suboptimal. The fights look really clean, especially Ivan and Thor. I wondered a bit if it would help to manipulate easier gangs to kill before you get bosses, but then I saw you needed pretty much all the money you got for the Boat Shoes. Funniest moment: in the post-input ending sequence, when Simon is having a good time with his own trash can, he still says "That guy's a freak!"... yes you are, Simon.

Amazing improvement. The route changes in 2-2 and 7-2 were my favorites. I have no real idea what that quick pause actually did, but it was surprising and looked cool.

Oh nice, I like seeing this game get improvements. For such a short game, it's incredibly bitchy to play well in real time. I also don't understand why the devs decided to make the easiest of the stages be Stage 3 instead of Stage 1 (even if you can select the first 3 stages in any order you want).

Thanks for the encode, xxezrabxxx! This is such a great run. The damage doesn't even bother me because of how seamless it looks. It's amazing how little the total time has changed since jecy's original runs, but this has some good improvements. I had no idea you could jump off a wall and come back to the same wall. You use that a few times in Stage 2. And the weapon switching to the music in 2-1 is a nice touch. Yes vote.

That was quite different from the previous run! I liked the previous run, and this is actually a bit of a letdown on entertainment for the most part. But I can't fault you for going with speed here. The glitched boss graphics would be funnier if they looked anything like what they should normally do, but they're full on unrecognizable. Yes vote for destroying the game. ... but if you find a zip glitch in the NES sequel game, then we may have to fight about it ;-) I helped out with that run, and it means more to me.

ktwo, I hope you don't interpret my vote on the movie as being disapproval of your run. I understand what you were saying about trying to dissect the game and squeeze what you can out of it. I appreciate you going for it, and as RetroEdit says, you never really know what the feedback is going to be like ahead of time.

Thanks for the temp encode. Honestly, though, there's not a ton that makes this run look interesting to the casual viewer. I liked seeing how you dodge all the monsters in the overworld, but then the dungeon has you just tank a bunch of damage, kill off expendable characters, and not engage with most of the enemies. The boss fights were neat but not enough to make this run really interesting. Meh vote.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run.
