This is a really good run! I like the entertainment choices during the downtime, such as the boss celebration dance in Stage 2 and the musical firing at the beginning of Stage 4. Shooting the Stage 3 boss from above was a nice touch too. (And I like the way you ended the run :-) ). One optimization that really caught my eye was the map movement in Stages 2 and 5. I think that's the first run of this game which properly rotates the map to make turns faster. (I think this was called "dual-vectoring" by Spider Waffle in the published movie's thread?) I have a few questions or comments though: 1) In Stage 4, when you kill the gray guy underneath the big ship, you shoot up from underneath. The published any% run shoots diagonally. Which one is better? 2) The Stage 4 boss seems a little slow. Can you do more damage to the guns at the top and bottom by shooting more when they are off-screen? 3) With the brain boss, you only get the gray stone attack. I think it's been shown that this is not optimal; don't you beat the boss faster if it uses the attack that surrounds it with little brains? EDIT: boct, when you comment on the objects in Stage 1, are you talking about destroying the weapon containers? I don't personally have a problem with destroying them in a pacifist run, but I guess I could see where some would have an issue with that.

Spectacular! I really like the changes I'm seeing here. This definitely gets a Yes vote. I have a few questions: * Can you share more details about the "purging glitch" in the Top or Spark stages? What about the early Rush Jet glitch? * I saw a place in Top Man where you shot to the left, but an enemy on the right was killed. How did that work? * In the Wood Man fight, why start with Top Spin? I understand the idea of saving a round, but Top Spin is pretty weak... is it the only other weapon which can damage Wood Man when the leaves are up?

Wow, only 1 extra damage per hit? I remember it being way more useful than that. Maybe I thought that because if I could get the hand to stick, it was generally the cheap way to keep damaging big enemies. Oh well, thanks anyway.

Congrats on the publication. Out of curiosity, did you test out a route that would get the Mega Arm's upgrade? I recall there being an upgrade that gave you the ability to get multiple hits with the arm (it kept grabbing the enemy), and sometimes I was lucky on console to drain a lot of life from enemies with it. The downside is that it's a pretty expensive purchase from the shop.

Great job! I think that going for in-game time is the best choice these days, given all the controversy we've had about emulator choice and lag patterns. The menu pauses were a little bothersome, but it's nothing too bad. Extra door scrolling didn't bother me since I was already fast-forwarding through door animations. Out of question, what's so different about the new Draygon strategy? On first glance, it didn't look significantly different to me.

I can't comment on whether this run beats all records; it seems like Medium is sufficiently different from Impossible to make the Medium run a somewhat unfair comparison. I can comment only on entertainment. I found this to be pretty fun. I was worried that a glitchy IWBTG run would skip too much of the game, and this turned out to not be the case. There was still plenty to see and tons of precision stunts. This could be improved a little in the future, but it didn't feel sloppy to the point of rejection. I voted Yes on this. I'd also love to see a no-major-glitches run in the future.

Ultimately, even if it is entertaining, it doesn't complete the game. That's a pretty big requirement for the movies at TASVideos... if the game has a clear end goal, then you need to meet it. Sorry.

For a 16-bit Megaman game (or game pack, as it were), this is really bad quality. The music and graphics are better in the NES versions! It's like somebody took the bad elements of Mega Man 7's design and made them more prominent. However, the run is great. The zipping and boss fights look pretty well done. I'm not sure I understand how all the health bars on the bosses work though (especially the first two). I'd say this was interesting enough for a Yes vote.

I had some very fond memories playing this when younger. The Mega Arm is really a nice change, and I'm a little disappointed the concept didn't catch on in many other games. The powerup sequence after boss battles is my favorite among the games. The music is great. You did a very nice job with this. I never knew that Salt Water and Break Dash were as useful as you made them. Yes vote.

That was... amusing. I found the battle scenes pretty funny, like the soldiers were having a very awkward dance party. I'd say this only gets a Meh in entertainment from me, though I admit I haven't played the game before. Good job with the technical details. Also, I'm glad to see you remembered the "B-side" submission of this game :-)

Max: In the file you just uploaded, King Kong stops in the final gate. He doesn't activate the credits... However, I do think the boss fight is a little better. The first two robots seem slower. Also, max, you should watch the real-time run at Speed Demos Archive: http://speeddemosarchive.com/KingKong2.html#SS or for the video, http://dl.speeddemosarchive.com/demo.pl?KingKong2_334 This run gets more powerups and beats the robots a lot faster. Have you tested this?

If you make any improvements, don't do a new submission. Just put the new file here, and ask for the judge to update this submission.

Good improvement! The last fight still looks a little bit slow though... the robots look like they move more than in Hisatoki's run. Apart from that, this looks really good, especially the door passage.

Welcome back, max12187566! I see I was mentioned. I don't know for sure how much of an improvement to expect... I just saw that the SDA run used a different powerup strategy. That run went a little off-route to collect powerups which made the boulders stronger. max, have you tested that route? EDIT: Ok, I watched this movie. The route looks pretty good, but I'm no expert on this. I see you didn't get a powerup to get stronger boulders. Look at the description here: http://speeddemosarchive.com/KingKong2.html#SS The final boss looks slightly slower than in Hisatoki's run (you can see the first few robots walk for longer before they die). This run looks pretty good, but I'd like to hear if more improvements are possible.

Glad to see I inspired a movie! I'm sorry I didn't really pick this up at all (and it turned out a strategy idea I had for the best ending run was sort of rubbish...) I took a look through the resources page. It has good stuff, though it should also get updated to have some of the old tricks, like jumping off spikes and canceling scrolling into boss rooms. Anyway, great job with lag reduction! I couldn't believe how little the game lagged now. Yes vote, and I hope to hear more about best ending!

Should this submission be set to delayed until the Stage 1 improvement is done? Once this run beats known records, I have no complaints about its publication. However, I'm not really qualified to judge optimization.

Feos brings up some interesting points. Most importantly, we have the question of whether this game should have two branches. I don't have a simple opinion on this... TECHNICAL MERIT: First of all, this is definitely a faster movie. There is noticeably less lag as well. MESHUGGAH, good job with the optimization! ENTERTAINMENT: However, this movie is less entertaining. Because this movie zips more, the movement is much more repetitive. Also, as a result, lots of shots are missed (even if the author tried to minimize the number of wasted shots). Also, the previous movie looks like it tries to play the game fairly faithfully, mostly saving wallclips for the ends of the stages. In other words, it nearly resembles real-time play except for the one glitch. This movie no longer looks anything like a real-time playthrough. As a result, I have to vote No on this. However, I don't fault MESHUGGAH for having a less entertaining movie. If I were going for the any% record, I would probably make the same choices. OBSOLETION AND TIERS: People are questioning why the currently published pacifist run has a Moon tier. I don't really have a problem with that, but I think it's largely irrelevant for the judging of this movie. The main question is: should we have two branches for this game? I think not. A pacifist run is not particularly different from an any% run and doesn't really offer substantial excitement. I mean, these two runs are only four seconds apart. I'd say this game should only get an any% run... it's not an entertaining-enough game to deserve movie variety. However, another issue to consider is: if this obsoletes the current run, can a run in the Vault obsolete a run with a Moon tier? I think it should. It just happens in this case that the faster any% run is more boring; that's the price you pay sometimes for faster runs. If people really want miss the old run, they can always look at the obsoleted movie. SUMMARY: I vote No on entertainment. However, this is well-made. I recommend the current Moon-tier movie be obsoleted by this Vault-tier improvement.

Nice job! I especially liked seeing how much more effective Shades was against the armored cat. By the way, I believe klmz also mentioned the light-switch skip in the discussion thread for the previous movie.

I just saw Dooty's WIP posted in the WIP part of the Front Page, and it reminded me this game existed! (I had played it as a kid but had forgotten its name.) I probably won't be able to be much help with level strategies and such, but I thought I'd still say hi here to mention I'm thrilled to see work on a run for this game, and I'm cheering you guys on :-) Also, I'd never actually finished the long last stage in a realtime run...

This was not entertaining, so I voted No. However, there are other reasons this should not be published. First of all, this is incomplete since it only plays the first level. While this is more entertaining, precedent says that we should have runs of complete games (most of the time). Also, even in this first level, it's less technically precise than goofydylan8's run. There are two issues I notice: (1) In the last house, the people are not manipulated to be in the quickest order. (2) The people should climb down the ladder when it's as far to the left as possible, to reduce walking time. Most of the time, they climb down when the ladder is to the right, not to the left.

Nice! I see he skipped the "super-pulling" upgrade you can get in Mu. That means this isn't really a 100% run, but I'm ok with that. I also see the last map piece is the one bought from the shop. Of course that's fastest... I feel like an idiot now for my earlier route idea. It means it doesn't matter which stage is last, really. Then again, I also have no memory of what the best route through the extra level is.

ALAKTORN: Is it unoptimized? I'm not a TASer, so I didn't really notice. The run seemed ok to me... Usually, if the run looks competent (for instance, it must beat all known records), I suggest we publish this as a first version, and then other people can go obsolete it. If its quality is too low to be accepted, usually someone shows a short run which demonstrates how suboptimal the submission is.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. I'm fine with how this was published. I did a first cleanup of the publication text, but I like how it's been fixed up now. It's important that the phrase "deliberately glitched" is included.

Seriously, the acting is on the level of pornography quality, and Lord Mei-Oh looks like he is the hero of Demon Sword :-)

I have to agree that the voice acting is absolutely terrible aside from the main protagonist which is only less terrible by comparison. The 90s had some very bargain basement video game voice acting, especially console games like this. I'm guessing they just had some programmers recording all the lines in a day and couldn't afford even Z grade professionals.
You're lucky to not watch the french version, trust me :p. You can watch an example here. Even if you don't understand, it's just a joke to heard :D. Like Sephyross says, "You play Tenchu for it's atmosphere, fortunatly not for voice acting".
Nice! I understand French, and I didn't think that particular segment was worse than the English version. It's still funny though.

I'm in favor of publishing the glitched credits for the greater "Wow" factor, but add a link in the publication text to a movie file that gets the non-glitched credits. The text can even say something like "Here is another version of the run which changes only one frame of input but avoids a glitched ending."
