Interesting premise for an arcade-style puzzle game. It's cool to see how much you abuse collision detection and yet don't die. For instance, you end some early stages with your character right on top of an enemy. There's one thing I don't understand, though. Sometimes, your shadowy alter ego can pick up the items, but sometimes only your solid character can. How do you tell which items the shadow can get? EDIT: Never mind, I figured it out. The solid player picks up the magenta items, and the shadow player picks up the cyan items.

Ooh... there's a second prize world?! I am curious about seeing this. It may be the case that you can only get into it with a password, as opposed to playing it right after the first prize world. I'm glad to see this topic is back up. The study of the code is pretty interesting. Could changes to the code be hexed in without redoing too much work?

jlun2: I think Viewer means to use the Sweet Home Translation as a source for subtitles. I don't think he/she meant to run this game on the translated ROM. It is helpful, though, to have a semi-official source for translations. I admit I can't really follow an RPG in a language I don't know. This looked good, from what I saw, and the LUA display on the side was cool. It's a lot like what touch_me has done with runs on things like Dragon's Quest and Secret of Mana.

This is really good. At first, I was worried it was going to feel pretty redundant compared to the current any% run, but there are a number of good areas shown off here. The goals also make a lot of sense, since getting the compasses and maps shows off more of the dungeon. (I'm not sure I agree with getting bait twice, but I can understand your decision.) Highlights: The water bridging at 9:00 previously mentioned is an especially good surprise. Dungeon 5 is really funny when glitched. I also never would've guessed attacking an old man in the dungeon saves any time ;-). Having the Master Sword at the end of the game is awesome, since Ganon and the Patras are destroyed a lot quicker. I have one concern, though. At the end of the 2nd dungeon, you kill the Dodongo with two bombs. Isn't it quicker to instead have the Dodongo walk into the smoke of one bomb and then slash him with your sword?

It's good to see a run on the bugfixed version. The health bar looks a lot better, and the Aries stages are fairly interesting since they have so many enemies. However, those stages do feel pretty sloppy too. I can't say anything about whether the run is optimized. With a game this clumsy, even optimal play is going to look bad. I'd say this gets a Meh for entertainment. It has novelty, but ultimately the run has fairly few ways to show off.

Thanks for the encode, feos! I would've tried to comment more on this movie earlier, but I've been on vacation. The game is very nice. It feels like a quicker version of Nuts 'n Milk. I had fun with this, though I didn't particularly like the death abuse in level 31. If you prefer to use it, though, I'm fine with it.

Thank you RingRush. I guess there's only one other concern I found. You died twice, I think, so it seems you should've been fine with the two initial lives, but you still earned enough diamonds to get an extra life. I don't recall if there was a time-wasting animation for the extra life, but if there were, could it have been avoided?

Thanks for the temp encode, RingRush! At first, I feared this GBC version would be a total bastardization compared to the PSX original, like the Rayman game we have published. I was pleasantly surprised. The game moves along pretty fluidly, like Gremlins 2 but with puzzles and bright colors. There's some amusing antics too, like how Croc has to go "Wow!!" with every trivial accomplishment he finishes. Croc sure has a lot of fun being a fetch-quest bitch for the Gobbos. Also, the second boss reminds me of a certain StarTropics boss :-) (That boss is a fire monster, and you also beat him by destroying key parts of the scenery rather than by attacking directly.) Questions: * Around 8:20 in the encode, you grab what looks like a ribbon. You shoved two boxes to finish that puzzle, but you look like you only needed one to make the jump. Why did you shove the second box? * At 10:45, it seems like you didn't need the shoved box to make the jump here either. * Why did you die around 15:15? It didn't look like you accomplished any particular trigger around that point that would suggest a deathwarp. Screenshot suggestion: Around 11:52 when Croc is dancing after picking up an item

I'm in line with andypanther here. While it's a shame that the more accurate emulator produces a slower run, it is better to use better emulators. It seems that the technical proficiency of this run is on the same par as the currently published run, and that's what should decide publication. Along with what Dr. Jones said, how should credit be attributed to previous authors? It seems Masterjun did all the input himself, even though he borrowed the strategies heavily from p4wn3r's run, so I don't know if p4wn3r should be listed as a co-author. I'd personally suggest that the publication text credit p4wn3r and gia for their major discoveries in this run's category, rather than put them in the author field. And Zeupar, the screenshot is awesome, but it technically occurs after input is already done. It wouldn't be the first time we've used a screenshot with that issue, though. Lastly, I vote Yes. Nicely done, Masterjun!

Wow, this is incredible. Skipping the Slyph Feather changes the movement a lot, since you're not doing as many whip launches from enemies. However, the change is well worth it, and it's great to see how much you could skip. The Pike Master fight was also very entertaining. Yes vote!

This is definitely one of the better Atari games. It did get a bit monotonous in the later stages, but the gameplay is still quite good. It must have been really frustrating for real-time players to take the wrong routes and end up without enough dynamite to finish later stages. Yes.

Hey Diman, any news concerning this run? I got reminded of this looking through the old published movies, and I've always wanted to see an obsoletion get done. Alternately, you could uncancel your old submission. While it's imperfect, it's much better than the current publication, and the rules of the site have been changed years ago to allow publications with known improvements. In the meantime, it may also motivate someone else to pursue another improvement :-)

McBobX: No, I have not done that. I don't think I've been required to do that for any movie before. I tried deleting my .sav file for the ROM, with no success. I couldn't find a file gbatemp.sav on my computer either.

I'm getting an error with this. VBA says this movie is not in proper .vbm format. Also, you don't have to end your comments with something like "Now you read all comments". It's fairly obvious when the comments are done. Maybe you would prefer to say something like "I hope you enjoy!" :-)

Question: Why did you use the 3-way in the one stage instead of the rocket launcher?
You must be talking about Area 7. There's a barrier at the beginning that only the 3-way gun can destroy. From there, you have two alternatives: either beat the stage normally with the 3-way gun, or use Start + Select to exit the stage and re-enter with the rocket launcher. I believe that it's been thoroughly tested that it's slower to use the rocket launcher: the time taken to leave and re-enter the map is just too long. (Phil's current submission text gave a time estimate of the difference, I think.)

Awesome! You have some nice touches in the run. I found the enemy truck sections pretty entertaining, because the shots travel at some crazy angles. I also was surprised I could notice some small changes in the early stages, given how long ago I saw the old run. For instance, in Area 3, I saw you took damage on your way to the first door, but yet you didn't have any damage knockback animation. That seems new to me, and that was impressive. Area 10 was noticeably different too, and I also liked how you took damage from the little robot with no knockback. When seeing the major change of Area 12, I must admit I was surprised nobody had ever pulled that off before. That was great! By the way, what happens if you try to go straight to Area 12 without saving Super Joe or beating Areas 10 and 11?

Perhaps the "in" in (in)famous is because the game feels pretty cheesy by today's standards. The fights are extremely repetitive. It is interesting to learn that it was the first true fighting game... but man, we've come a long way in fighting games since then.

Wow, this was pretty cheesy. Mortal Kombat looks quite awkward in this platformer style. It was also somewhat disappointing that the best ways to kill bosses consisted of boring combos. However, the shortcuts were pretty good. I found the Prison of Souls the most interesting part, when you lead one enemy along for a while. The boss kill through the floor was also good, and the end against Shinnok was definitely a WTF moment. I'd say this is a Meh vote in entertainment overall.

Nice job improving this. I was surprised to see how fast the boss battles were, even when you skipped some upgrades that x2poet got. Yes vote. I think this also marks the first time that an x2poet run on Metal Slug would be obsoleted by someone else.

This is definitely better than the first Yie Ar Kung Fu. The pre-fight rooms were sort of silly, but it's not too bad. The bosses have a fair bit of variety, actually. The last boss is awesome. I couldn't quite go with a Yes for entertainment, but I voted a pretty favorable Meh. This also looks pretty well-done, as far as I can tell.

I didn't really notice the improvements very well, but it's always fun to see Robert Ordis blast through this game with total disregard for the enemies and level structure. Good job on the improvement!

Ah, I'd forgotten that DTC #3 ran Alien Hominid. So, in that table, you're comparing your run against the other teams from that competition? I get it now.

(http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. Maybe I'm missing something, but what are these "teams" like T1, T2, ..., T5? Was this submission the result of a contest I didn't know about? Regardless, I look forward to seeing this when I have my emulators. I haven't had time to follow up with as many runs lately, but then these past two weeks have seen a lot of nifty runs in the submission queue :-) EDIT: Ok, I've seen this. I think the game is a little visually confusing, since there's not a ton of outlining to separate all the sprites. However, it's really good for GBA, and the action is frantic. Good job!

Thank you for the encode! (Also, your English is pretty good :-) ). The game is fairly nice for the SMS. The characters move at an ok pace. The first five or six minutes are the most boring, but after that, there's a lot of stage variety. I especially like the potions and the odd effects (like the cactus that grows when the water is released). The game reminds me a lot of Duck Tales and Castle of Illusion. I must admit, though, I have no idea why Obelix causes much more lag, though. Also, the game should probably have more bosses. I vote a weak Yes for entertainment. I think this should get a Moon.

Looks pretty good. It seems, though, that you don't always use the same strategy fighting the same enemy type. For instance, the first time you fight a lizard man, you let him jump and strike him midair, whereas the second time you fight him, he doesn't get to jump at all. Why the difference? Also, in the stage where you enter the ceiling, is it possible to be knocked to the right instead of the left when you take damage? (Perhaps by turning around before the damage) Some more comments would be useful. Thank you!
