Any chance for a version that skips the cutscenes? I felt like I was watching World of Cutscenes and didn't find it entertaining.
When I was watching GoddessMaria's encode, I found that generally the cutscenes between individual puzzles were about 15-20 seconds long. So once you see the bottle appear in a level for collecting the little Goos, jump 15 seconds ahead in the YouTube video, and you should be pretty good to go! (Also, thanks, GoddessMaria, for providing the video!) As for this run, while it has a lot of cutscenes, the action during the puzzle parts is pretty interesting, surprising, and varied. I know people have compared this with Knuckles Chaotix; another reasonable comparison is the old Daedalian Opus submission. That game had a whole lot of cutscenes, and that run was rejected. However, in Daedalian Opus, the puzzles aren't really that interesting to watch. I vote Yes for this run, since (a) the cutscenes are fairly easy to skip (b) the action during the puzzles is good (c) the solutions are generally optimized and ingenious (d) there's a lot of variety in the puzzles

Truncated: Thanks for verifying that the floor type is responsible for whether the character sticks or not after a jump. On watching this movie carefully, it seems to me that the main factor is whether the floor has solid collision detection on the bottom: if you can pass through the bottom, then the floor won't stick, and vice versa. That should help in planning which areas require killing more enemies. Cooljay: Nice job improving your previous submission by so much! However, in light of these discoveries about how the floor works, I think there's still quite a bit of improvement left. I'm voting Meh this time, but I think a run which has better jumping and ammo management can certainly earn a Yes vote. The health management in this run is also pretty good, but I imagine it can be even better when you take the sticky floors into account.

Alright, thanks, NitroGenesis! I watched this again, and it was better than I first thought. If nothing else, the music is fairly good, especially the drum hits in the boss battle music. I'd say this moves along well enough to merit a (somewhat weak) Yes vote.

Thanks for the run and the encode, NitroGenesis! The run looked pretty solid. I wish there could be a little more weapon variety during the regular stages, if you can show off other weapons without losing time. Boss fights were pretty good. I'd never heard of this game before, but it's a little disappointing graphics-wise, as far as arcade games go. The stages got fairly repetitive. I may rewatch this, though, to see if it's more interesting when I've had more sleep. If you have any more info about the game, it might help make the run more interesting.

Spectacular! You've really ended with a masterpiece, Sonikkustar. This is way more entertaining than the 2-Max submission, and the glitches are great. Just two optimization questions, though, based on comments from Bestiajerule's 1-player run: 1) You do a lot of back-suplexes with Max to finish off enemies. Would a jumping throw be faster? (That's what Bestiajerules often uses.) 2) In Stage 8, by the time Bear Jr. comes out, he's the only enemy. Supposedly he shows up when Hydrogen is destroyed. Is it faster to kill Hydrogen sooner, so you have more enemies to fight at once there?

Very good job! I remember that when the original run for this game was submitted, I asked if that shortcut in Stage 5 was possible. I'm glad to see it worked out.

Thank you, Eye of the Beholder! That fixed the issue. This looks fairly good so far. Few delays, interesting weapons. Are weapon powerups randomly distributed? What about sneakers? (For instance, could you get a better weapon in the boss fight?) The fight against Stark's machine has you delaying some before shooting the lower heads on the right side. Why is that?

Which version of the ROM and emulator does this file use? I'm getting desyncs in the first 10 seconds of gameplay past the title screen with gensv11a and gensv9.5b. As far as I know, I have the [c][!] version of the ROM. However, I'm glad to see something here! I also saw RandomPieIV's name in the filename, so it seems we've got more authors at this. Good luck!

Actually, I rather liked this one. It's not a combofest, but it does a darn good job at ridiculing the opponents. There's some nice style, particularly with the finishing blows at ends of rounds. I especially liked the Hugo fight. This is the first playaround on SFIII that I'm voting Yes on. There may be some improvements, but there's still a fairly solid run which demonstrates a lot of parrying.

Great run! It's a shame that the jetpack doesn't get used more often... I like watching it being controlled with TAS precision. However, the trick with the boots is really awesome. I also like how much you shoot enemy bullets out of the air. This gets a big yes vote. My favorite bits were the first boss and the Mushroom boss. That was an awesome strategy to fly up to the girls to dispose of their shots quicker. I have a few questions, though (I haven't been reading the game's thread): * Why do you wait so long before entering the shop call after beating the Governor on route 7? * Why do you backtrack slightly for the heart at the place you first use an AquaLung? It seems wasteful since you don't get into health problems, and you have to die anyway when you first see the Demon. * Why do you make yourself micro-sized when you first fight Bopper? * How do you avoid getting knocked down the mountain?

Now that I've seen the encode with the subtitle commentary, I have to say it made a world of difference for me. You had a lot of interesting things to mention about the game for someone who didn't know it. Given that, I'm much happier about the run than before. In any case, congrats on the publication!

Hmm... interesting. You don't pick up any shadow clones, which should make the gameplay more like the other two NES Ninja Gaiden games. It sounds like a good console speedrunning challenge, but I'm not so sure I like it as a TAS. For one thing, in a "lonewolf" run, you have to take lots of damage, everywhere. It's no longer just for getting boosts to high platforms; you need to take damage just to avoid letting enemies slow you down, since your shadow clones aren't there to kill enemies behind you. This makes the run look sloppy, but it's unavoidable. The other big problem with a lonewolf run is the boss fights. You deal way less damage, so bosses go through more attack patterns. This was interesting to see for some of the final bosses (the first and last), but otherwise it wasn't as fun to watch. Furthermore, you saved all your ninja points for boss battles, so you couldn't use as many weapons during the stages, which makes those stages less interesting. I think this is fairly well-played. It's a low rerecord count compared to Scumtron's run, but I don't see any big mistakes. (I'd like to see more bosses slashed quickly by wobbling and slashing... it seems like that only works on some bosses though.) I'm not sure, though, that the goal is entertaining enough to be published alongside our current run. I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on why you tried this run. What makes lone wolf interesting enough to be published alongside the current run?

Unfortunately, I couldn't really get into this run. I haven't ever played the game before, and I couldn't figure out what the characters were trying to do at most points (especially when the dungeons went all black). This is definitely well-played, and the Ambrosia music is cool, but this didn't hold my interest well enough to earn a Yes vote. I'm going with Meh.

This game looks incredibly amateur. The rolling is very silly. The grab attacks also look pretty comical, and maybe that's a good thing. I like the bursts of grappling-hook speed and the use of invulnerability to avoid things like pistons. The 2-player dancing antics were alright too. I'd say this goes into weak Yes territory.

This is a nifty run. I did find this pretty entertaining. The novelty of the walkathon wore off near the end, though, and there wasn't as much clever use of charged weapon shots during boss fights. (I can understand that it wouldn't have saved time to use charged shots when you can't dash, but it's still a little disappointing.) I honestly don't really know if this is publishable. I'm inclined to say it should get published in the style of a playaround, but that's not really accurate. There's a fair bit this category of run shows that others don't:
  • The fact that you can skip the Maverick stages, but yet you still play the intro, was a big WTF for me. I mean, you see Zero give his speech after the first Vile encounter, and then he immediately says Sigma's fortress was found?? Quick work, Zero!
  • Using the ice sled to push yourself along is awesome. I don't think you could really see that outside of a walkathon.
  • By skipping the Maverick stages, the run stays a pretty moderate length. A full-game walkathon would be too much, I think.
For those reasons, I'm in favor of publishing this as a separate category which definitely has the "sacrifices speed for entertainment" tag. I also think this run was done very well, too, so I vote yes.

This was a pretty silly game. I like how Popeye shows off a different beefy arm every time he changes direction. Also, he throws spinach cans when he's at full power :-) The game just feels fairly unpolished. Maybe it's just my ROM, but the bosses in Stages 1 and 4 had extra lines of pixels at the top which scrolled down as the boss was defeated (it was a fairly obvious graphics glitch). The music was horrendous in some stages (like 4-2). It's tedious to see all the brick-breaking, even though it does get faster once you have enough power to smash two columns with one punch. It's an alright run, though. I'm going with Meh.

I saw bits of Zurreco's old run in SNES9x, and that was brutally slow. Seeing this game in LSNES was way more pleasant. Despite the slow movement speed, I rather enjoyed the run... the character's movement patterns end up looking pretty nimble. The Master is lighter on his feet than Michael Flatley :-) Yes vote.

A little more character variety might have been nice, but this was a really good run. It clearly took a lot of work to craft the fights. Nicely done!

Dear kristmortal95, I have not yet watched this run. However, if I understand you correctly, you're providing a "warpless" version of Donkey Kong Country which does not skip stages. (I checked, and every published run of Donkey Kong Country has either skipped stages or has been a 100% run.) That's a nice idea. I don't know if it's a good category to have for a run, but I like it. However, if you compare your run to the current 100% run, your run is not much faster. The 100% run is very old and is very improvable, so this makes me think your run is also very improvable. You also have a small number of rerecords, which usually means that the run can be much more precise. I would suggest that you look at currently-published runs and try to learn the techniques they use. With practice, you should be able to do better than previous runs. There are also forums on this site to discuss the game and to receive feedback on attempts. Good luck TASing!

I can appreciate that this is a tough game. It would certainly be really monotonous if you didn't have warps. The game has some nice design elements, like the enemies that would swipe at bombs with their swords. However, it doesn't end up being particularly entertaining to me. The character is really slow. There isn't really a notable difficulty progression at the later stages. The music got old pretty fast. Like Angerfist mentioned, there really doesn't seem to be much depth to how any level is played. I'm going with a weak Meh.

If this is published, we could always make a link back to the currently-published 20-minute movie. It would be similar to what we've done with Super Mario 64, where that publication has a link to the latest 16-star run (to my current knowledge). Just because a movie is obsoleted doesn't mean it goes away... sure, it has diminished visibility, but the people who are really interested in Chrono Trigger will probably look through submission comments anyway and would check out interesting links. I would definitely be in favor of also having a longer run on the site which doesn't abuse save exploits, like inichi's old 3-hour testrun. In fact, I'd even be in favor of submission and publication of that run now, at least until something better in that category comes along. While it is a testrun, it's still pretty solid quality, and it may inspire others to work on a better version. Obviously, though, it's inichi's decision whether to submit the testrun though. (There's been a few instances on this site where rather good movies, and even improvements of other movie, were passed up or canceled in the hopes of an improvement that never really came. Off the top of my head, Ocarina of Time was the biggest example, until bloobiebla's movie got done. Some other examples: Diman's run of Legend of Toki, Bestiajerule's run of Streets of Rage 3, Sonikkustar's run of Super Fantasy Zone, hisatoki's run of Gdarius. The only time I can think of lately where a known suboptimal movie was published anyway was Glitchman's Mega Man 4 run.)
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. It's nifty to see that Ocean ended up making multiple Addams Family games with different gameplay. However, I don't really like this one. The gameplay has a slow pace, which only gets worse whenever the inevitable lag builds up. I couldn't even really tell that a warp had occurred... it just looked like you went through a door and then ended up at a boss fight. You look like you did a good job with this, but this version of Addams Family has a lot less appeal than the NES or SNES versions. I'm going with Meh.

Would someone be able to provide an encode, please? I liked the previous submission for this game, but I'm unable to watch this movie from the emulator. Thank you!

That's closer to what I'd like in a Contra hack. The difficulty level is more impressive, for sure. However, it's still not particularly polished visually, and a good hack really should offer something a little more novel.

Wow, this is a pretty ridiculous hack / unlicensed game. I was fairly amused to see tall robot enemies from Shatterhand in Stage 4. The bosses in this game look especially messily-programmed compared to the rest of the game, and that's really saying something. This seemed well-run. I'm slightly in favor of publishing, but I'm not sold on it (I'd rather see a cleaner hack of Contra), so I'll go with a Meh weighted towards Yes.
