I get the anti-joke, but I don't think it ultimately makes for a good run. I liked the one funny answer in your run, but there aren't enough big iron dildoes in this run to beat out the currently published run ;-) (If you don't get that reference, rewatch the published run.) I'm voting No, but you've made me quite entertained with your April Foolishness today. (It's still April 1 in my time zone.)

I am actually quite impressed by this. 8-2 is the most innovative, I'd say, with the Bullet Bill usage. It's really interesting to see times when you walk against walls or pipes on purpose. I am also a DDR / ITG fanboy (unfortunately, there's no good arcade machine near me anymore), and I wholeheartedly approve of the LUA script and its encode. That was awesome. I think this makes nearly as interesting an alternate goal as the "walkathon" movie, and I'm in favor of publishing it. Yes vote.

The first stage is quite impressive, given how you're dodging barrels hanging onto broken ladders. I can't say this should be published, but it's quite a nice demo. ... Also, this game needs a good TAS. I know efforts have fizzled somewhat over the years.

Nice glitch! However, it doesn't particularly lead to an interesting run... there's just too little going on. I guess it deserves a Meh, though.

Yep, this run does not perfectly achieve its goals, especially around pipes. ;-) Nice idea though. Does anything about the player, like velocity or luck manipulation, get affected by pausing? If not, that means you could theoretically hex a perfect speedrun and make a perfect run which plays as little music as possible.

If you want to just access a debug mode, the cooler thing to do is to go to a game like Kirby's Dream Land, go to the sound test, and listen to the jamz. Since this does not jam out, No vote. ;-)

Weren't the original runs on this game done 2 years ago or so? Man, it's taken a lot of time for a 100% run. That alone must be a testament to the laborious optimization and dedication necessary for such a run. ;-) EDIT: You got some of the dinosaurs to completely invert! I'm not sure how that was done, but those were the highlights of the run. It's pretty hard to color dinosaurs when your most appealing patterns are polka dots. Also, why do you run over some regions twice? That happens a lot in the early dinosaurs, where a region would first get colored red then get stripes, or something like that.

I love how the ladder still makes the "clang clang" sound when a giant piece of tofu is climbing it :-) Also, I guess the moral of this run is that tofu must not be tasty for zombies. I mean, you run right up against spiders, and they don't eat any of you! (There are a couple enemies who try harder to take a bite out of you, though, like the crawling dude at around 4:38 in the video. And, of course, there's the very ending of the video...) Yes vote for making tofu slightly more red over the course of the run.

That had plenty of WTF for the 8 seconds it lasted. In all seriousness, I figure that this is an acceptable run in the style of something like King's Bounty: a random game destroyed by luck manipulation. So yeah, Yes vote. This may well be the best Syobon Action run we could ever get.

I surprisingly preferred the Kraid fight to the Ridley fight. This was more enjoyable than I feared it would be. The Chozodia and Space Pirate portions were more boring (largely due to the stupid little guard robot), but everything up to Tourian was really cool. Yes vote. Nice job!

Thanks, Dr. Jones, for mentioning some more background info about Touhou games. And thanks, mtvf1, for a Nicovideo link (even if it's for a slightly old version). I expected I'd really like this, given how much I enjoyed Rosenkreuzstillette. However, I was somewhat disappointed. The characters move fairly slowly. I didn't like the music much. The game is just enemy soup, but it didn't seem well-designed. The weapons were pretty cool, but it wasn't really enough to make it interesting. This is certainly a well-done run, but this really isn't as interesting of a doujin game, I think. If this were judged like a hack of Megaman 2, I'd say we have better hacks out there. However, judged as its own run, I'm going with Meh. I'd be a little more interested in seeing a no-damage run, I think, but ultimately that would make the game even slower.

Nice! If you only started this run shortly after submitting Gargoyle's Quest II, goofydylan8, then you work really quickly! Also, this is a pretty impressive run for your first 2-player submission. This run is pretty entertaining. I think you've pretty much proven that two players is optimal speed-wise, to strike a balance between route efficiency, boss health, and lag. It's also generally more entertaining than a 1-player run, so I'd say this should definitely obsolete the 1-player run. As for obsoleting 4-players, I'm not convinced that should happen. The 4-player run usually has more playaround than can happen in this run. If I had to pick, I'd say this run should not obsolete the 4-player run. For one thing, the 4-player run still has an incredible "Wow" factor of how much gets done by the characters at once... this run doesn't give that same impression.

Hmm, not too bad. The gameplay does get somewhat stale, though. Maybe I am just underwhelmed by the graphics here... it looked more like an Atari game on the GBC to me. The run seems well-played enough, but I'm not crazy about the game. I'm going Meh. Nice job producing the run so quickly, though.

I've also been having some issues with playing things in lsnes properly. I followed the instructions that masterjun mentioned, and the movie plays properly. However, I can't figure out how to set up some of the things I'd really like to have when watching movies, like: * enabling turbo mode for playback * hiding all the diagnostic info on the right side of the program during playback * changing the default directories for storing ROMs and movie files Can anyone help out with any of these? Thank you!
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I salute you, natt, for getting an awesome encode of this made. Though more thanks goes to rog, of course, for making the run in the first place! There is a lot of run-right-for-justice, but it's fairly interesting to watch compared to your average action game because of the lush settings, nice music, and the handy minimap. (I also realized, it's certainly no worse than most of the down-time in RPG runs.) The bosses were pretty cool too. I'd say Raijin was generally the coolest fight, even if entertainment was sacrificed for the sake of speed. Yes vote.

I'd definitely be in favor of letting goofydylan8 be a "Rookie" again next year ;-) I made a more substantial movie description, trying to allude a little to the intro text of the game. For the screenshot, could we maybe get a slightly different frame? In this picture, part of Firebrand's arm is blacked out, which looks a little jarring. I was thinking it might be better to have a picture where that boss's disc weapon is in the air above Firebrand's head.

I like the last one, because it looks like Wolverine is taunting Beast and completely ignoring the boss. The only worry I have about it is that the 2-player portion of this run is fairly short, so the screenshot may misrepresent the run.
