c-square: I think that some boss fights have lower floors than others. In the ones with low floors, Toki can't jump high enough to get all the bonuses. Anyway, this looks pretty good! There wasn't much I could notice that seemed unoptimal, given that Toki can't adjust his jump height. This run is about 30 seconds faster than an old submission for this game by Neofix, so that's a good sign! I liked how the game has music that's just about as good as the Genesis version, but the character moves faster. The stage design was fairly interesting, and the bosses were well-fought. I vote Yes to publish this, but I don't think it should obsolete the Genesis movie. Since your character can take damage in this game, that makes the run less impressive. In the Genesis run, you have blatant collision abuse with enemies, which is less obviously present in this run. While I think this version of the game is generally more interesting, the Genesis run is interesting in a very distinct way.

Alright, I finally finished it. I know the old run quite well, so I was very happy to see this improvement. The lag reduction is quite evident, and the few instances of corner-hacking were surprising. (The biggest surprises to me were still the strategy changes with Trevor, though.) Just a few comments: * In the 2nd-to-last screen of 4-0B, is it faster to do a damage boost off a ghost to reach the stairs? It seems like it should be possible. * The damage in the autoscroller of 5-0B felt a little sloppy. * Would shooting daggers earlier in A-01 kill Medusas faster and reduce lag? I know that section is always incredibly laggy, but it seemed you could lessen that by killing the heads earlier. In any case, Yes vote. Thank you for making a run of this great game!

Thank you, ThatGugaWhoPlay! The submission comments should mention New PPU was used. I'll get to this run a little later. EDIT: It was old PPU. I accidentally had my emulator at New PPU from watching another submission. It works now, thanks!

Dang, when I watched this in FCEUX 2.1.5, it desynced for me in 2-3 when Trevor climbs the stairs in a laggy area with Medusa heads. (I didn't watch any encodes yet.) What I saw until then was really awesome, though. I'm quite impressed to see the totally new strategy in Stage 1 using the holy water! In fact, how do you make it so that you keep throwing holy water without stopping motion? I didn't realize animation cancellation could work even with Trevor's subweapon :-)

Thank you for the nicovideo encode, TaoTao! The explanations you gave were pretty good too (even if you say they're not complete). I was surprised how long the inventory glitch took to do. That was a bit of a downer. However, you can't really complain with an RPG being beaten in 20 minutes, and there are some highlights: * The glitched exit of two dungeons was funny. * Confusing the final bosses :-) Yes vote!

The only concern I have is: how acceptable is it to adjust something like +INITIALTIME in a DOS run? It's not as extreme a setup choice as starting from customized RAM, but it seems a little controversial to me. Outside of that, very nice job! The play seems pretty nice, and the change with the Shockshunds is extremely noticeable and daring. Thanks also for the encode!

I can't personally notice these improvements, but I'm impressed improvements were found nonetheless. A couple small gripes, though: * My movie stopped at the very last moment before the final "star" was grabbed, which starts the credits. Instead, my movie stops with a pause screen. * I think the camera was zoomed in on Mario too much, especially with Bowser In The Dark World. I don't think it's too bad, though. I'll vote Yes, but that last movie frame worries me a bit. Did the last frame of the movie get corrupted? (It wouldn't be the first time this happened in a SM64 submission.)

Thanks, feos, for the syncing help! I wasn't sure that this run would work with the new PPU on an older FCEUX, but apparently it did. Other highlights for me: * I'm especially glad to see the third boss improved; that fight has the aggression I was suggesting fisker N's run should have. * Awesome damage shortcut in Clock Tower Ideally, there wouldn't any boss time-wasters (like that one dash of the ostrich, and the stuff with the final boss), but I guess that can't be helped. Yes vote.

Very nice! I didn't know about this game, and I'm quite impressed, first of all, how much better it is than the original game. For instance, it has: Better music, better stages with less loading time, a character that actually looks like a chameleon, speed powerups, and boss fights with health meters! The run is very cool too. The manipulation of speed powerups was great, and some shortcuts were quite surprising (especially the one in Pyramid Land that looked like you were backtracking a lot). Great Edo Land was my favorite stage, up until the boss fight. Strong Yes vote. In fact, I'd say this is the N64 TAS of the year (at least so far). Screenshot suggestions: * Grabbing a bunch of little guys during the burger boss fight (Carnival Land) * Near the end of Great Edo land, when you make your tongue in a loop flying on the way to the boss platform * Most anything in Toy Land would probably work well, especially early in the stage.

It turns out older versions of FCEUX desync much earlier than the last boss. I watched this with FCEUX 2.1.5 and it desynced in Stage 3. What I saw until then was great... I loved how you made the phases of the bat fight faster by hitting him earlier. I'll try to catch the run on the right emulator later, maybe tomorrow.

Thank you for the encode, antd! This movie doesn't sync in my version of Gens11, for some reason. I watched this and the previous version, and this is not as interesting to me, but it's definitely very polished. (Impressive rerecord count!) I can't say No to an improvement. Nice going!

Yoshi looks WAY too happy killing Cloud 'n Candy like that. Anyway, nice improvements! Yes vote. Also, thank you for the encode, Lex! It seems like the audio drifts though... I started noticing it being too early about halfway through the movie, and the audio desync is much more noticeable in Stage 6.

Finally watched it. It took WAY longer than 0.03 seconds to get everything set up. It's pretty hilarious though ;-) I'm not voting.

I am quite amused by this. Hooray for a new shortest submission! I agree with Dada's points:
Dada wrote:
Well, there's a difference. This one can be called up immediately through a specialized input combination. You even need to use both controllers to do it. The one in Earthbound isn't meant to be usable at all, meaning the player has to go through quite a lot of trouble (and regular input) to access it. So it's a legitimate glitch. If you can somehow access a debug mode or even warp to the closing credits using a memory manipulation method, it's fine. If it's a secret key combination then it's against the rules. (This hasn't really ever come up before, though, since I don't think movies like this one have ever been submitted before. It's not very clearly defined in the rules, I'll give you that. This is just what I think the spirit of the rules imply.)
To add to this, we have had at least two examples before of using debug features purposefully: Granted, neither of these movies actually finished the game immediately as a result of debug features, but they still benefit from deliberately using a debug feature. These movies were eventually deemed to have used cheat codes, which is different from what the Earthbound run did. EDIT: boct, Brandon's joking ;-)

Great publication text! However, I think that we could use a better screenshot. When the Dopefish's eyes are covered, that removes most of the funny factor of the Dopefish. If you want to keep it, ultimately I'm fine with that, though, especially since it was suggested by the author.

I sense some confusion about Commander Keen's gender here ;-) Anyway, thanks for providing a downloadable encode! I'll definitely watch this a little later and post some comments here. I'm really looking forward to Commander Keen goodness. EDIT: Wow! This is basically everything I've wanted out of a Commander Keen run. There were stages with lots of shooting, stages with lots of precise jumping, some glitchy behavior here and there, and a whole lot of stage variety. It looks really good. I'm very happy to give this a Yes vote. Would you be interested in doing a Commander Keen 3 run? Nitrogenesis had a submission for that game some time ago.

My sentiments are pretty much exactly the same as Tub. I personally really like the playaround/100% runs for these games. The speed-oriented runs are less fluid due to frequent loading screens and such. However, I do appreciate the skill that goes into finding things like the quickest combo that still earns the Gold in competitions. Yes vote. Also, much thanks for providing a good encode!

Congratulations on finally finishing! The run drags in some parts, as is to be expected with this game, but the overall pacing is quite good and speedy. I really liked the boss fights with Mantis, the Hind, and Metal Gear Rex. Yes vote, and congrats again on completing the run after multiple restarts. That's really impressive dedication.

Derakon got a big difference, but there's another big difference. In 2P mode, you can pick up your partner and throw him as a weapon. That makes most boss fights much faster. A 1P run has to be more resourceful with manipulating boss attacks.

Incredible. The testrun was already great, and this is even better. The grinding is still fairly interesting, and the overall management of XP is really seamless. I couldn't get the Lua script to run perfectly... when I tried it, I got your commentary but I didn't see memory values being displayed. Still, the commentary was a very nice touch. (Actually, my computer slowed down like crazy when the rewind buffer was on, so I had to disable it and then things worked fine.) Yes vote!

Elaborate, how do you think it can be improved. I'll translate it for the Author.
Sure. Thanks feos! Here's the main stuff I noticed: * I don't know why boxes get picked up and thrown in Stage 2. That seems avoidable. * For the last hit on the Stage 3 boss (fire-breathing weasel), Dale waits for the weasel to jump to his level. He should instead jump down to attack the weasel. Dale will probably take damage doing this, but he has enough health to survive. * In the last round of the Stage 4 boss, both balls from the previous appearance were used. Maybe this can happen more often? Hitting twice per round, instead of once, would be a big time-saver. * Hopefully the card boss in Western World could be manipulated better.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. MUCH much better! The bosses look good! I think the run can be improved more, but this is good enough. Yes vote.

As somebody who quite enjoyed the Dizzy run we have by alden, I was looking forward to this one! I can't get this to play though... every time I try to load the ROM in FCEUX, FCEUX crashes. Granted, I'm trying FCEUX 2.1.3, but it's usually worked well for the runs people are making currently. EDIT: Never mind, I installed FCEUX 2.1.5, and that worked fine. I actually like this run! The music is a little annoying, but it's better when the volume is low. The game makes you run back and forth a bunch, but the scenery is pretty varied and the items are amusing (I like "Infra-Red Detonator" and "Cursed Treasure" personally). The game is fairly inventive. I wish it moved a little faster, like the Fantastic Adventures of Dizzy, but it's got a decent pace. You make the clunky physics look decent, especially when dodging the fish underwater. I'd say the route-planning definitely deserves a Yes vote!

I find it funny that you have an icon in the bottom denoted by mushrooms, but yet you're collecting carrots in the levels. That seems like a place where the programmers got lazy trying to change the graphics to use Bugs Bunny. Even if Karnov has worse scrolling, the scrolling in Karnov isn't jerky and eye-hurting; it's just a little boring. This game is painful. The graphics actually make me think more of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde (seriously, search Gruefood Delight for that gem!). Sorry, but I'm voting No.
