Thank you for publishing! However, I think the current screenshot isn't a good choice: the death doesn't look good, and it happens at the very end of the movie anyway. How about the screenshot suggestion I made earlier in this thread? There's a point where the hero is jumping between fire shots of the Stage 3 boss. You wouldn't see that kind of picture in the any% run, since that run would destroy the arms of the boss first.

At first, I was getting this game mixed up with Tin Star. Luckily, this is much shorter and more entertaining. You did a really nice job with this, keeping the pace frantic and the delays hardly noticeable. Yes vote.

Nice work, Aglar. It's got to be tough to optimize a Sonic run with no spindashing, and this looks pretty solid. The Star Light Zone stages are the best, and I especially like the damage boost in Star Light 3. I believe that you stood by your goals, and they're good goals in spirit. However, I do think that whether or not the ejections in Scrap Brain 2 and 3 are legitimate, they do break the feel of a "low-glitch" run. Up until that point in the run, I watch this feeling like "I could do this, if only I had such awesome control". Then Scrap Brain 2 and 3 happen, and it doesn't look like a great player anymore... it instead looks like a trick. I understand your views on the matter though, and I don't know what the ideal answer ought to be. I think you picked a pretty good choice, though. (I'd say that the glitchy play in Final Zone was overdone, but that's minor nitpicking.) I'd be in favor of publishing this as a "low-glitch" run (similar to the category for Pulseman), so I vote Yes.

Thanks for the temp encode! Yes vote for some riskier jumps (especially one jump in Stage 3 which goes under a platform) and way better boss fights.

I didn't watch the previous submission for this game, but I just recently finished watching this one. The game looks fairly good for a GBA game (surprisingly little lag). There are too many air stages though... You don't have a particularly high rerecord count for a run of this length, and indeed, the run feels a little bit sloppy. For instance, here are some things I noticed that may or may not be improvable (I haven't played this game myself): * In stage 3, you have to pause to get through a 2x2 pile of blocks, because you're up against them before you jump and spin. Why not just bounce off the TNT block to their left and spin during that bounce? * In stage 17, it looks like you take too much time moving far away from obstacles instead of approaching enemies more closely. * In stage 18, you wait a long while before you start firing at the first midboss. It seems you should be able to fire much sooner, take a whole bunch of damage, and then heal at the first health block afterward. * In stage 20, you slide past one piston, but your slide ends too early so that you have to spend a lot of time crawling. It seems faster to walk under the piston and start your slide later. * There's also the issue with missed shots in the air stages that Warepire mentioned. I'm not sure quite what to vote yet, but I'm leaning towards Meh. This run is alright, but it looks like it could be much more precise.

Is there an encode of this available? If the encode just shows the differences in the last stage, that would be plenty.

Hahaha. I'm amused by this. The run still manages to make some close calls for how short it is, which makes it more interesting. I feel this is fairly comparable to the Ghostbusters run: it breaks an annoying game with an extreme glitch. I think this is as least as entertaining as Ghostbusters, so I'll give this a Yes vote.

Alright, I finally watched this run. Diggidoyo, thanks for the YouTube playlist! This run isn't as fun as the Mega Man run, in my opinion, because you don't have as much of an opportunity to show off weapons. However, it moves really well, and the times when you took damage looked quite clean. On the plus side, the boss fights were better-looking in this run, with Nitro Man probably being my favorite fight. I'm voting Yes, and I have a few screenshot suggestions: * That time in Sheep Man's stage where you use Wheel Cutter to stay over a spike pit, waiting for a block to move * During one of the Nitro Man fights, where both of you are dashing and there are ice spikes on the ground * The last Wily fight, showing all of the big energy balls you're jumping over

Coincidentally, I just rewatched the Mega Man version of this run yesterday! I can't get to this run yet, but I look forward to it. Nice work! By the way, why do you take damage in this run? Does it save significantly more time?

Nice going! The style in this run is quite good. Highlights for me include: * Dancing / firing to music in the base levels * Shooting the machinegun in Stage 5 to imitate the snow * Shooting at a guy in Stage 7 and missing him twice from opposite sides The technique is also quite good. Going into the wall in Stage 6 was quite surprising. I also liked how the miniboss in Stage 8 worked. Yes vote. For a screenshot suggestion, I suggest somewhere around frame 10300, when the hero is jumping between two fire shots from the third boss.

In general, it's a bad idea to cast a vote in the forum if you haven't watched a run. In fact, there was a prank or two in the forums to catch that very problem (search for the faster of two Kung Fu submissions by Deviance). However, it's perfectly fine to make a post saying "I like this idea" and "good job making a faster run". Until you've watched the run, though, you don't know if the run contains cheating or is sloppy-looking, etc.

As much as I'm glad you guys are doing a good job at making encodes for this, is there anybody who actually wants to comment on the run itself? It's a lot easier to watch NES movies in the emulator itself, since the ROMs are small, and the emulator doesn't eat up a lot of power on weaker computers. Ultimately, I've decided to vote Meh on this. I appreciated the movie, but it felt too long for what it is, and I'm not sure I'd watch it again.

Dear McBobX, It's clear that you're a good player of Mega Man games. Welcome to the site! However, as people have shown, your run is not faster than the best known records. This means it will not get accepted. Don't get discouraged, though! I suggest that you look at the Forums and provide Works In Progress (WIPs) for the games you're playing. Hopefully, you can get good criticism and learn to improve. Good luck! [P.S. If you would like help translating, maybe another common site user could help? Where are you from?]

I haven't watched this yet, but does the PSX version lag less too? If so, then a run on the PSX version is also going to be much faster, as well as easier to make. That would be another reason to prefer the original NES game to this port.

Ok, I finally got a chance to check this out. I'm not quite sure what to think of it. It's not even clear how to judge this movie, I think, based on the site's precedent with puzzle games. Pros of this movie: * The difficulty noticeably ramps up as time goes on. * Many things happen at once. I like levels like 7-10 where the whole thing is beaten in one combo. (In fact, I approve of using bigger combos, at the expense of a little time wasted from score messages, as a speed-entertainment tradeoff.) * Glitches! (Though I'm not sure these glitches are apparent to a watcher who's unfamiliar with the game) * The speed of moving pieces is pretty fast. Cons of this movie: * There doesn't seem to be any randomness. * It's LONG. 16 "worlds" with ten "levels" each is a lot. * The music and sounds get on your nerves. * Ultimately, despite some awesome moments, the movie is pretty repetitive. Comparing this movie to other puzzle games: * It has the fast switching action of games like Wario's Woods and Puzzle de Pon. * It's much shorter than Adventures of Lolo 3 (the longest puzzle run published), but it exhibits less action-y elements and less variety. Similar statements could also be said to compare this to Humans. * It's longer than Kwirk, but it moves at a (in my opinion) more interesting pace. * The solutions are much less easy to execute than Fire & Ice (which was rejected). There are some other puzzle games published, but I've mentioned the ones that seem like they provide the best comparisons. At this point, I don't quite know what to vote. I'm leaning towards Meh. I think you did a very nice job technically, but I'm not sure that the game is particularly publishable.

Nice job with this run! Doppler 2 was the most interesting, with all the airdashing over the water area. Unfortunately, this run is also less entertaining than the currently published run. Mothrayas put a lot of effort into using weapon variety in the current run, and that variety doesn't really seem to be present in this submission. (One example is Mothrayas's weapon use entering the capsules in Doppler 3.) I don't know if lag prevents you from using more weapons, but I was somewhat disappointed. Nevertheless, this is a very good technical improvement.

Derakon: If you grab a fruit when you have full health, it can still slow you down, because the timer which decides when to decrease your health resets. So I believe that grabbing a fruit at full health in 2-1 still loses time, even if it's not as much time as when health is not full. TASeditor: Good improvement! The backwards jumping was a little overused, but it was interesting. I was glad to see you using vertical shots, which make the water stages a lot more entertaining. The high jump cancel is also awesome. At this point, stages 3-2, 4-2, and 5-3 are awesome, with the fast vertical movement. You also do a really nice job abusing hitboxes in the boss fights, especially the last boss. (Nice timing of the input end!) I wish 2-1 and 5-1 were less laggy, but I'm not sure you can do too much about that. Yes vote.

Pretty nice! I especially like the dancing before the hippo and the 5-1 death. Also, the first paragraph of your submission comments is hilarious. I wish I'd seen the "stuck animation" glitch you mention more often... I only caught it at the 1-2 boss and at the hippo's dance. Anyway, yes vote.

"YOU CAN'T HIT ME" reminds me of MC Hammer's "Can't Touch This". Given the moves that Albus has, that song is probably appropriate. Anyway, nice job! It's good to see a variety of moves used in boss battles. The fights are long enough that we can see the bosses's actions, yet they're still very fast-paced. Yes vote. EDIT: By the way, you credit "Mr. Gocha". I thought Gocha is female?

Incredible. It's been a long time since an update happened to the Battletoads runs, and this was well worth it. This is really impressive. First of all, I really like some of the strategy changes, like the activation of the Stage 6 warp and the use of toads behind the tower in Stage 12. Some stages got WAY harder to follow what the heck was going on, like Stages 4 and 9. On top of this, there was some very nice style, such as the dancing to the first snake in Stage 6 and the taunting of the whirly ball in Stage 11. Congratulations, guys. You get a huge Yes vote. However, I've got two questions: * Could you summarize how much each stage was improved? * Should this be a new category or not? I'm partial to saying that this should be used to get rid of the 1-P warpless run, since that run is less interesting and doesn't show anything too different from the 2-P warpless run.

finalserafin: Le mot que vous cherchez est "doubly". Translation for everyone else: The word you're looking for (in the French part) is "doubly", as in, "I am doubly impressed by what I have seen".
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. Incredible. Pretty much anything from the King stages is unrecognizable compared to before. It's also worth noting that this is now TEN minutes faster than the original run in this category! Two questions: * In the intro stage, could you use air walking or air Tengu dashing to jump off the second moving platform sooner? It seems you have to wait quite a while for it. * How in the world are you damaging the boss when your sprite is nowhere near the boss? (the King 2 air boss, Perfect King, and Wily 1 come to mind) Absolutely a Yes vote. Even though my head hurts from some screen shaking and glitchiness, it is well worth it.

Very nice. I find the first stage to be the most impressive, since you do an especially good job getting powerups quickly. Yes vote.

Impressive manipulation for a really clumsy-looking game. Indy's running stride looks really ridiculous. This makes level 1, in particular, look fairly imprecise, but it doesn't seem like the game allows better control. I guess this is too short to be boring, but I'm not sure it's really that entertaining either (especially when the last level is just a luck-manipulated puzzle that lasts about 1/3 of the movie length!). I'm not sure whether I'm voting Yes or Meh yet.

Not bad, but this could be better. The overuse of Nightwolf's hatchet was one problem, as boct mentioned, but there were a few glitches repeated too much: invisible Cyrax, preceding fatalities with Shang Tsung's ground fireballs... There were some cool combos, but there were also a lot of attacks that didn't quite chain together (Sonya's scissor grabs, for instance). It also felt like the 2-player matches were also much slower than they should have been: one player stands still while the other attacks. Good try, but you need more variety and surprise in a publishable run. I voted No.
