I should've watched this a while ago. I finally got a chance to see this movie. Unfortunately, I don't think it makes a good game for TASVideos. The game does have nice graphics. The music is comforting. However, there's not enough variety in gameplay. The damage-canceling trick is nice, but it makes the game too repetitive. Your level of play is good, but the game doesn't provide enough chances for you to make an impressive run. In more detail, here are some good points: * It's funny how you barely win the javelin toss and kick the extra points. * The catapults at the end are cool. Bad points: * The routes through the stages are very obvious. There isn't much apparent challenge, and hence the run looks less impressive. * You have enough health in each stage that you don't have to manage your health carefully. * No boss battles. Miscellaneous questions: * Why do you always choose Asterix? If Obelix runs the same speed in the football game, it would've been fun to choose him. * Why do you still complete the touchdown in football once you have the winning score? I'm not quite sure what to vote yet.

The action outside of Stage 6 was alright but not that great. The guy's run is funny, and the music is catchy, but I'm not sure this is particularly publish-worthy. The complete anticlimax of a final battle also wasn't that interesting. I vote Meh.

khv-user: It is true that the run will be faster if you don't play the 6th world. However, I think the run feels more complete and challenging with that world included. It's more like a "best ending" run. Thank you for providing another reference run!

Hello micro500, do you have any progress with this run? It was going really well!

Nice going, and thanks for the encode! This had some really nice cat-and-mouse games going on with the opponents. I especially liked the Akuma fights, and some of the really fast rounds were quite surprising. Yes vote.

Thanks AKheon! The last parts with the running dress are certainly the most interesting. Not only can you run, but the stage design is the most varied as well. The earlier parts of the run had their appeal, though... I especially like the camera tricking to go through platforms in the first stage. It's also cool to see that you get the fifth dress (with the books) without actually talking to the princess who should give it to you. It's a close call, but I'm going to say this gets a weak Yes.

AKheon, do you have an encode of this current run? I'm quite interested in seeing how this fares as a full-game run, but I can't run the emulator. Thanks!

Very nice! I'm quite glad to see a run finally made it to TASVideos which only runs the action portions. Some notes I made for myself when I watched this: * I found myself really surprised at the same place neo_omegon pointed out. * The boss manipulation is really awesome. Casandra 1 and Aitos 2 really stick out for me. * The Casandra 2 boss fight was pretty surprising, in a good way. * It's a shame how much longer the Marana 1 boss fight is in the Japanese version. Yes vote. Also, I have a screenshot suggestion: At the very end of the first refight in Death Heim, against the Filmoa 2 boss, you finish the fight while being impaled on his axe. That would make a cool picture.

Nice going! I liked the look and feel of the game, actually, especially the tunes from the first few stages. I was also pretty surprised that Milton Bradley made this game. Some of the music made me think of things like Battletoads and Bionic Commando (especially the 1943 stage and the drumrolls in the music). This moved along quite well, and I vote Yes.

I finally got a chance to watch this via x2poet's encode link. This was pretty cool! I don't think it's the best run of the series, but it's a lot of fun and very well-played. I'd recommend a screenshot from underwater, when Eri is using a fork on a bunch of jellyfish in the watery tunnel. Yes vote. Congratulations, x2poet!

This seems pretty interesting! I haven't had a chance to watch it, but I have to ask: why should this be published along with the SNES run? If the changes aren't big between the versions, then we generally have precedent to go with the original version of this game, which is the SNES one.

Hi there, I just found this thread after stumbling on the published run for this game (I use the "Random Movie" feature fairly frequently to watch stuff). Thanks for creating it, Sonikkustar! I definitely imagine the movie's improvable, though I haven't tested anything specific. For one thing, some parts are pretty laggy, and TASing tools for monitoring lag have improved a lot since the publication of the current run. I'd also be curious if different character choices sped things up, like using Beast in the elevator stage.

I'd say that there should definitely be a run of the game that plays all stages... I've been looking forward to an improved version ever since Diman's last canceled submission. The warp is cool, but it shouldn't be the only run of this game. How's progress going, by the way?

Heidman: This looks like a machine-translated message. Even if you don't get it exactly, the important thing is that Dark Noob is going to retry the run and see if he can leave more enemies behind.

If the only difference between the J ROM and the U ROM is the amount of text in the game, then that is not considered a good enough reason to use the J ROM. There have even been several runs that were cancelled or rejected due to language choice: for instance, the current Link's Awakening any% run's first submission was on the J ROM and cancelled for language reasons.

Nice job, Sotel6! It's unfortunate that the game is so repetitive, where you mostly use the same combo. However, you did a good job with enemy groups (especially with Arby, Fat Jack, and Andore enemies). I liked seeing more use of the fire palm and Super Combo especially. There's one small error in the description, I think: you don't lose health from the super combo. You lose it from the jumping spinning kick. Anyway, you get a Yes vote.

Pretty nice! This didn't feel all that different from the published run, and I think I preferred the published run a little more in terms of style choices. However, this is still pretty good. I was very amused to see the 1up drop from the miniboss in the Toxic Seahorse stage :-) I also like how the Blizzard Buffalo fight was different. Out of curiosity, how do Bit and Byte determine which stages to fight in? You play the same stage order as the previous run, but Byte appears one stage later in your run. I'll give this a Yes vote. I'm curious, though, how much time the sword jump FractalFusion mentions would save. Luckily, all the sword use is near the end of the run, if it made sense to redo any battles.

Congrats guys! If a big improvement is on its way, I'm really looking forward to it! However, I have one question nobody's addressed here. In this game, you can get other weapons in the shop. Do any of those damage bosses more, enough to save time in a run?

Really good replacement screenshot! It conveys an appropriate amount of WTF for this run.

I finally managed to watch this. I think we have a winner! The only unentertaining part was the "quiz" time with the final boss, but everything else looked quite good. Congratulations, and you've earned a Yes vote.

This was pretty nice! It sometimes looked bad to go 1-1 wobbling through enemies taking damage (I'm not a fan of stage 2-3 stylistically), but the result was quite speedy. I'm most impressed by the hammer boss. Yes vote.

1 frame improvement? With a run this tightly contested, that's still quite a feat. Yes vote, I guess.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:
Shoutouts and thanks to mklip2001 for arguably being the nicest and most supportive person on the forums.
