Very nice! The jumping looks a lot smoother, and taking damage during the last boss fight made it much more interesting. Yes vote.

No, it's not ;-) Anyway, I also will have to wait for some form of encode (multipart encodes would be just fine). However, congratulations, Janus, for what must have been a herculanean effort! I'm really looking forward to watching this.

Oh, nice. What would Lua be good for? Tracking your position and lag? Unfortunately, I don't have the time to make TASes or I would help. Maybe you can send a PM to some of the TASers who liked your movie when you submitted it. Also, I would guess that the US and Japan versions don't have any real difference in lag. I could be wrong though. It's probably better to stay with the U version, so that more people can read the beginning and ending.

I also think the missed shots in the autoscroller looked bad, but the game was pretty nice! Hooray for cute penguins and fast boss fights. I think the plane sections were done about as well as they could have been done. Yes vote. I would also suggest taking a screenshot from Stage 3 when the H powerup is active.

Welcome to the TASVideos site, la mammal! You've made a really impressive post about this game. I thank you, and some other posters in this forum, for clarifying some details to me about how things work with this game, and for putting runs like these into perspective. Posts like yours can make a lot of difference :-) I still would be interested in seeing more variety in weapon usage in another run, but I'm glad for now that this is getting published.

For some reason, I just can't get this running. I got the mupen version that was linked in the submission. I believe I copied all the relevant files of the Glide64 plugin to the right directories. And I think I got an ok ROM. However, the game won't proceed past the very first splash screen. This is even before I try to run the movie.

I know at least one other person in this thread brought up the comparison to the Ninja Gaiden 2 improvement by xipo that was rejected. I think that's a really good example to consider here. With that run, there was one technical improvement, but then the rest of the run was stylistically more annoying. It's sort of like how wobbling has lost its general appeal in TASes since it's too often used as a substitute for creative stylistic choices. As a result, the style of the NG2 run came off as lazy.* On the other hand, as much as some of us disagree with the style of this run, that style had work put into it. This wasn't just somebody trying to do filler; these camera choices were deliberate. I don't agree with the rationale behind their choices, but I acknowledge that they thought about presentation, and I applaud their efforts. I feel that this makes this run more publish-worthy than the NG2 run. In other words, I disagree with the authors of this run about style, but I'm very glad that they put effort into making a presentation they wanted to see. That, together with their technical proficiency with this run, makes me vote Yes. * I don't mean to be too harsh on the NG2 run, but I needed to make a point for comparison. xipo, you have shown yourself to be a very good TASer, and I really respect the work you did while you were submitting movies here.

NitroGenesis: How's the improvement going? Is it worth canceling and resubmitting? It doesn't seem like many people have been able to view or comment on this run without an encode.

I'm a big fan of seeing boss improvements, especially in the base levels. Nice job! I hope we'll see more movies from you :-)

There are two shorter submissions, but neither got accepted: * ais523's NetHack "fastest death" in 69 frames * Alden's Minesweeper in 28 frames In fact, both of these were so short, they were encoded as animated images!

Wait, really?? I recall this game being really long. It's divided up into save-point areas called "Takes" (like "takes" on a movie set), and I only made it up to Take 5. I don't know how long the game actually is, but I'm betting a non-glitched playthrough would take at least an hour! Anyway, apart from that, I was plenty frustrated with this game as a child, and I love how you've ripped it apart. You completely ignored all of the game's puzzles (except for how to beat Mysterio, but that's easy). Yes vote.

Thanks for the encode, feos. The run looked pretty solid, though I feel like the game itself doesn't have a lot of the little touches that the arcade games had. Nothing to be done about that of course. Nice work, x2poet! It would be nice if you could explain what the items you detoured to pick up do. That would help us understand why getting them is helpful.
This is pretty much exactly what I wanted to say. A Metal Slug game doesn't feel the same when you don't get to fight Mr. "See you in Hell". Also, it's strange that you can take damage in this game, though I liked the damage boosts you used. Good job!

Thank you for the answers! I'm especially glad, oddly enough, to hear that the damage glitch can only do 999 max damage. (I noticed that with the serpent boss before Flammie.) That will keep things more interesting. There may also still be use for spells too... for instance, aren't Moon Energy and Lunar Boost really good spells for the final battle? (You have so long between vulnerability times that it really pays to increase the character's critical attack rate.) In any case, it's sort of funny to see how little this run depends on spells, since any normal playthrough needs them much more. I can now say this run looks really good. The running patterns are done well, and I like how the characters still attack enemies every so often (though you often won't be able to kill them with your levels...). The luck manipulation and lag management seem very good too. Keep up the good work! (Also, "equipped" is correct in your description.)

I finally got a chance to watch this WIP. This was pretty fun! I'm new to this thread, so I apologize if these questions were already covered extensively: * Is every boss fight going to have that quick death glitch? I think it makes the game more boring, but it also means you don't have to level up magic. * Why is the Boomerang forged? * What do the power wrists do? I'm looking forward to seeing more of this!

This was pretty neat! Unfortunately, when the levels are done so quickly, the ratio of "time actually playing" to "time waiting for cutscenes" is low. That's the same issue with the first THPS3 run that emu did. Also, the competitions are sort of disappointing. However, this submission has convinced me that these games can be interesting to play for pure speed as opposed to playarounds. Nice job!

How inaccurate is PCSX, though, really? I'm not sure I see the point with this. The main comparison I can make is to adelikat's movie of Eggerland, which was more accurately emulated than the Famtasia run by Bag of Magic Food. However, by that point, Famtasia was obsolete. In this case, PCSX isn't obsolete yet. I'm not necessarily saying I'm against this movie yet, but I'd like a little more explanation as to why this change was made.

Sorry about the delay in getting to this thread, but I finally got nicovideo to work on a computer with a faster network connection. First, I have one simple question about the game itself. Are you normally supposed to see shots from the player's default weapon? With the video quality on Nicovideo, I didn't see any shots... it looked more like the Einhander destroyed other ships on contact. This can't be right though. This is a pretty game with awesome music. The ability to get enemy weapons is great. However, the game felt fairly slow most of the time (with the notable exception of the fights just before the final boss). Furthermore, the boss fights are over almost too quickly, especially in comparison to how long the boss death animations take. As for the run itself, I think it could be a lot more entertaining. Although you get a few different weapons, you play long stretches of gameplay with the same weapon. With a game where you can pick up enemy weapons and switch freely, it would be a lot more interesting to switch weapons a lot (examples include: Mega Man X2, Mega Man 8, UN Squadron). Furthermore, the player is very still a lot of the time. Since the game has good music, why not dance to the music every so often? Incorporate gun switching into the dances (so that the dancer uses an "arm" for dancing)? This is well-played, but I think this could be much better. I'm voting Meh.

This is a pretty good run! It has some annoying bits, though. I didn't like how much the game slowed down during the invincibility explosions. The characters are also fairly slow for the first few levels. Even though this is the shortest Bomberman run we have, it feels longer. However, the stage variety is pretty cool, and the boss battles were excellent. I'd say this deserves a Yes vote.

Very nice! It's clear that SMB3 is the most optimized of these four runs, which makes sense since it has the longest any% run. I like what you did with the other games in the meantime, though, like using an alternate route in SMB2 for 6-3. I'd actually say that with this multi-game run, the synchronization between games is more apparent than with the other multi-game runs (except for DeHacked's MMX & MMX2 run). Wonderful job, agwawaf.

Unfortunately, I don't see myself doing a sound test video in the near future, as I have yet to learn how to actually TAS anything well. With grad school finishing up, I don't see myself having the time to learn either :-( Furthermore, I don't trust my musical talents. Thanks for the encouragement though.

Nice. I'm ok with this being a little late for April Fool's Day. I approve of the choice of 4 and 1 as the byte values. Still voting No, though... but I approve of the idea. This also gave me a nifty April Fool's idea too late: just have a movie enable Sound Test and play around with some jams. (I know that, for instance, you can do this with Kirby's Dream Land.)
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. This is quite disturbing when read together with the judging verdict :-/.

The camera jerkiness was a bit annoying, given how much you jump in the game, but the gameplay was great. The speed is certainly worthy of a Yes vote. Nice first TAS!

To be fair, using a password does seem like an ok joke for April Fool's Day. It's not very funny, but I like the idea. Good luck with a more full run, DS13! If you want more responses from community members before finishing your run, you should use the forums here.
