In addition to everything else everyone's said, great job with the Tricylde fight in 6-3 too. It was a very noticeable improvement! Simply wonderful work all around.

With the examples of Chrono Trigger and Earthbound that have been brought up, a large part of the debate was whether to keep an outdated run published. The previous any% run for this game wasn't really outdated at all. I'm not entirely sure whether this affects the argument about using the precedent set by Chrono Trigger and Earthbound. I prefer the argument andymac brings up about Yoshi's Island. In that game and this one, the old any% run is quite close to a 100% run in terms of the gameplay it shows, whereas this new any% run is radically different-looking. I guess this doesn't make a strong enough argument to keep the old any% around for now, since it did use the pipe glitch. It does make an argument for a 100% run to obsolete a former any% run, though. In any case, congrats on the publication, and I look forward to hearing more about a 100% run!

You should see the original Rockman & Forte run by Gigafrost, which FractalFusion's Forte run obsoleted. That hints at what a glitchless run would look like. It's definitely entertaining, but it gets a lot more repetitive due to longer boss fights (especially Tengu Man) and doesn't skip the King fight. For what it's worth, I think there's still plenty of fast unglitched action in this run too, but that's pretty debatable. However, an unglitched 100 CDs run would be a bad idea, since the game is designed to require you to use both characters to get 100 CDs. Rockman is needed because of the Rush Search ability, and Forte was needed because of his Gospel Flight ability to reach some CDs. The zipping glitches allow the CDs to all be collected by Rockman without having to play the game twice. It is not possible to get all CDs with Forte alone.

This seems to be a pretty funny game. When powered up, the main character has the powers of Hagane (though he's not quite as cool) and the voice effects of Ganondorf from Ocarina of Time (especially the little grunt when air-kicking). There's definitely a lot of slowdown, but you look like you did the best you could. The game also has a good amount of stage variety, and the fights looked good. Yes vote. Nice job!

I thought it got a little repetitive, but it was a pretty fun run. Yes vote. Kids, always ride motorcycles with your head down (bouncing on the ground)!

The run seems fairly well-done technically, except for maybe the last stage... it just felt less precise to me. Unfortunately, though, the autoscrollers aren't real fun, and I feel like the pace of the side-scrolling sections was also pretty slow. I'm voting Meh, leaning more towards No, for game choice. However, you've shown you can make a pretty solid run! I'd love to see your work at some other games.

First off, I gotta say: I loved this run. I wasn't following WIPs and forums to see what work people had done with individual stars, so I was pleasantly surprised here. The instant-bully-kill and the Inside the Pyramid star were highlights for me, though the Rolling Log star was also a really big surprise. As for my 2 cents about categories, 0-star and 120-star, both allowing all glitches, make sense to me. These show the game pushed to the extreme in as many situations as possible. Another interesting category, and the most true to the original spirit of the game, would be a 70-star run without BLJing. It's definitely a hard problem to determine which 70 stars are the best to go for, and the lack of BLJ should hopefully make for really interesting strategies. Thus, I would say these three categories are the ideal categories for this game. In the meantime, though, I do support this run for publication. It's of a digestible length, so in the meantime it's a good run for people who find a 120-star run too tedious. The 16-star cutoff, while being dated, is still a well-known cutoff for the game, and it's interesting to have this as a historical throwback to how SM64 TASing has progressed. It's a good compromise, in the meantime, between everything and nothing, while maintaining a fast pace all the way (except when boarding Bowser's Sub). Thus, I vote Yes for this to serve as an in-between third category, with the caveat that a 70-star BLJ-less run should obsolete this.

I watched this run, and I rewatched the Genesis version. The maps were a little different, but not enough to really feel like different games. The Genesis run seems better in all the important factors: faster pace, less time on bonus screens, no waiting for Baloo the bear, faster boss fights, and better graphics / music. I'm impressed at how well this was made for an NES game, but I just don't see a purpose to publishing this movie on the site alongside the Genesis run. Sorry, x2poet, you've done a great job with this (inferior) game, but I have to vote No.

Somewhere early in the run, you stopped playing SML2, and you started playing the system itself. Brilliant run, and it's funny to see the strategy of dying in the pipe. This earns my Yes vote and a lot of respect. Mario also looks pretty carefree in it.

Amusing game, but about three or four times too long. You can basically watch the first four minutes and see everything the movie really has to offer (except for the last obstacle course and an increase in difficulty). I think this is pretty good for a sports game, but it doesn't have enough options for variety. However, I was fairly amused by the gimmicks, at least the first time, and I think this deserves a Meh vote.

This ended up being pretty decent. The sound effects are pretty annoying, especially walking straight along a hall (amazing what we were willing to put up with before the days of Soundblaster). The last level is especially interesting. Late Yes vote.

Now that I have a good internet connection again, I can say that I enjoyed this movie. It's not fast, but it's fairly relaxing, and the run looks quite optimized. As promised, I vote Yes.

Why was this cancelled? It's a great movie! Hoandjzj, you should uncancel this movie and just update the movie file to include an extra press of Start (if it is needed). Once this is back to normal, I'll definitely vote Yes on it. I watched it via the encode and had a lot of fun with it.

I really liked the comparison video, so that I could appreciate the style differences. Also, good job finding a new trick with the pipes. Yes vote. As for discussion of No votes, how about we instead use the following rule of thumb: make a post if you have something to contribute, such as a question or comment on the game / run. More often than not, this means that No voters should comment to criticize facets of the game or run. Similarly, though, plenty of Yes voters comment on what they did like, to encourage and thank the TASer and also to let them know what parts were most appreciated. After all, in the end, what matters most is: is a judge adequately informed to make a good decision? Silent No or Yes votes don't help the judge as much.

The antics were fairly amusing, but the game seems really clunky. It plays more like Tekken than Mortal Kombat but with horrible framerates. The fatalities also looked fairly uninteresting compared to the graphics quality of the game. Meh.

I watched the unassisted run through the first game that you put up, and after watching that, it became a lot clearer to me how risky all the platforming was in this run. This was pretty cool. Yes vote.

wicked: x2poet used an older emulator. A link to it is in the first post of this thread. After trying again, the download for FCEU 0.98.26 worked for me. Thanks again as well, feos, for the encode! It looks good. I really liked this run. It was a lot more entertaining to me than the single-player run. For instance, I liked how the two players kept the score pretty evenly matched throughout the game, taking turns killing enemies in sometimes non-obvious ways. The boss fights were great (though the fight against the snow boss looks a little worse than the others). When one player was doing most of the killing, the other had fairly good antics. This kept my attention much more than the 1-player run. I would prefer to have this movie on the site than the 1-player movie, even though any 2-player run is going to be longer. However, that probably goes against precedent behavior. I see what adelikat's saying about the 4-player Arcade run being a more fitting multiplayer run, but despite this version being called "The Arcade Game", I don't really feel like this NES version is enough like the arcade version to make this run unnecessary. With all that in mind, I'm voting Yes on this movie. Sorry if these thoughts are a bit scattered; I can write more about any one of these points if desired. EDIT: x2poet, do you think you could share the following information in the submission? It may help people decide the technical strength of this run.
  • How many more enemies do you fight with 2 players than with 1 player?
  • How does boss HP change?

feos, I'm finding that the googlecode link you gave for fceu 0.98.26 doesn't work. Also, this desyncs with 0.98.28 and 0.98.15 in the first stage. I'll check out the encode soon, if possible... I have intermittent internet connectivity right now.

First off, thanks to Mister Epic for the encode! As for the game, it feels clunky, especially in comparison to the Castlevania we all know. It's particularly annoying that you can't keep the Chain Whip after boss fights. Also, it's a drag how many hearts you need to use or buy some of these subweapons. That being said, this was a pretty good run, especially the boss fights. I'm voting Yes.

Wow, this is a really entertaining puzzle game. It feels to me like a more colorful and action-packed version of Chip's Challenge for the PC (not to mention it's a lot shorter). The run looks quite smooth too. Nice job cetaka!

TASes of this game always look great with the fluid swinging action. Also, they make a mockery of the tank in Level 2, which I always had difficulty fighting when I was younger. The improvements in this run are darn spiffy too. Yes vote. Also, for what it's worth, nice rerecords per frame ratio. That's a lot of work for a short run.
