I ended up watching the YouTube playlist: thanks to Hoandjzj and Critical Five for that. I think Tub's description of the hack and play are quite spot-on. I rather liked seeing the game unfold as more and more abilities were earned. It would've been cool to have more boss fights though... the one at the end was quite awesome. The only concern I have is whether there should have been more damage boosts earlier. For instance, the first time you meet yellow pirates, you have to spend a lot of time to dodge their attacks. However, it seems you have enough health to spare at that point where you can damage-boost off of one of the pirates and refill energy later when you're filling up on ammo anyway. This one concern aside, I am in favor of publishing this as TASVideo's first movie of a Super Metroid hack.

Is there a way to get an .ips patch for this hack? I found the original forum on Metroid2002, but I don't have an account there and didn't see any download links.

This was definitely a lot more interesting to watch than Gauntlet; in this game, the character graphics are actually detailed enough to see some real action. The boss fights were especially superb, but overall this looked good. When it's too much happening on the screen to follow at any one time, it's a good sign here. Also, you get serious respect for making a 5-player TAS.

OH MY GOD. Seriously, this was amazing. Just when I thought we'd seen the pinnacle of SMB64, this run blows it all away. I'm especially impressed by how nonintuitive some of these new strategies were, like pausing to make a faster BLJ. My jaw was on the floor for the spiral staircase and BitFS. I'm also a fan of any screenshot with Mario in odd midair poses... the one in BitS resembles Neo in the Matrix or something. (Mario even has a smug facial expression there, IMHO.) In any case though, congrats to all of you!

Coincidentally, I was just thinking yesterday afternoon that it would be cool to rewatch the Rockman 2 run, and then this shows up in the submission queue. :-) The improvements are small in comparison to the last runs, but they are there. It's quite impressive how much work went into the tiny details. Great job!

This "Stafy" (seriously, it's not Starfy?) character seems fairly cool, with the fast spinning and running. However, the boss fights had some fairly boring turn-taking. I feel like this short run doesn't really offer the best of the game, but I don't know. In any case, the run is fine for the length it is. Yes.

I think Twisted Eye already said what I was going to say about the perceived difficulty of the hack. However, I think that having more stars made some of the fights pretty cool. Nick Bruiser (a.k.a. Sandman) and F.A.S. were particularly impressive. I'm going to go with Meh on account of those new strategies, because otherwise this looks like an easier Punch-Out.

Thanks for the nicovideo links! This run looked like a pretty fun racing game, though most of the time you didn't get a chance to interact with the other racers. (You did lap them in at least one of the races.) I'd like some more explanation about the different powers and racers, but I definitely give this a Yes vote. Good job!

I tried watching this (it did sync, at least the parts I saw). I haven't played this game before, and I just couldn't follow any of the story even at 1x speed. This kept me from really getting into the game. It's a shame, because it seems like this game has a lot of good elements for an RPG. The graphics are pretty clean. The fights seem pretty interesting. The puzzles I saw are runarounds but were fairly cool (sort of like the Lufia II run). However, I just couldn't stay through to watch the whole thing without any idea of what was going on. As such, I will refrain from voting. Concerning questions about optimization, I would say that if the run doesn't noticeably seem sloppy in terms of strategies and movement, and the run demonstrates TAS-like control of the battles and luck manipulation, then this could still be accepted as a first run of the game. It would serve as a challenge for other people to go and improve. I don't know how I feel about the lack of a retreat glitch though.

This ended up being a nice little game. It was a bit repetitive, but the action is fairly good. I think this deserves a Yes vote. Also, I suggest a screenshot from one of the times in Level 4 where Kimberly is crouching and crotch-shotting the bad guys.

Wow, this is a record breaker. I'd be interested in watching this gradually, and I usually prefer watching from the .vbm itself since it takes up less space. So I have two questions: 1) Does this submission file actually play through to the end? (If it doesn't, we can't make encodes either...) 2) Could you provide a few savestates, so that we can watch it incrementally as opposed to leaving the emulator running for 6 hours? Thanks!

Wow, that game ended up being pretty darn awesome. The cutscenes were fairly annoying, but the action was great. I also wouldn't call this a pacifist run, since nothing about it stylistically feels pacifist. Either way, this definitely gets a Yes vote.

I found this version suitable at the moment. The game is fairly repetitive, but the level of play is high and some solutions are pretty elegant. I would say that a different version of the game should be able to obsolete this, but this works well enough in the meantime.

Man, this submission hasn't been getting enough attention, has it? Anyway, the run is not as entertaining as SMB1 warpless, since there aren't as many tricks like the vine glitch or shell glitches. However, the stages themselves are pretty awesome, and the difficulty makes it more interesting. This doesn't seem to be quite as good as HappyLee's warp-full run in World 8, but it's still certainly good, and I would be in favor of publishing this alongside our current runs. That also invites other people to compete and improve it.

Thanks for the encode, Cardboard! Once I finally was awake enough to watch this run properly (I tend to watch a lot of runs shortly before bed), I enjoyed it. The scenery changes enough to keep it from being repetitive, and the dodging seems impressive. It was really funny to watch Darth Maul running away between phases of the final battle but you were right next to him... sort of like Darth Maul told you to race him to a tree or something. Anyway, yes vote.

I miss seeing the tons of Skeleton souls drop from a revisit to the Castle Corridor, but this run still kicks a lot of ass. Nice job especially with the health management for Legion. It's amazing how different this run looks from the previous one.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! This game is definitely a lot better-paced when you take damage all over the place. The energy management was definitely top-notch. Great job!

This looks like it's going to be a great hack. The speedometer is a nice touch in particular (though I'm also partial to Mega Man X music remixes). The play looks very solid, though there seem to be some larger pauses than needed fighting the first boss. I'm still chalking up a Yes vote, though if more of the hack gets developed soon, this should probably be viewed as a WIP instead of a full submission.
