This game is so tough for casual players, especially in Stage 4, that the walkthrough is particularly entertaining. Also, nice WTF moments in Stage 4-3. Yes vote, and I'd be particularly interested in improvements to the regular run.

I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! To come up with such an awesome HATAS, you must be a real Jovial Awesome Character Kicking Ass at Superplays, Seriously. 216 rerecords? That shows serious dedication in the pursuit of human intervention!

Wow, you two are pretty amusing together. Nice job with this submission! I was expecting it to be just April Fool's silliness, but like adelikat said, this actually turned out to be a fairly good watch (though predictable). Honestly, if Minesweeper has a place for TASvideos, so does this game.

I think I'm with mz on this one as to how funny this is. I don't know if it would be better for entertainment to allow a little more variety in more of the kills, but I was still smiling at most of the early kills. (I guess the main question here is: how is this run's early part better than the Mortal Kombat II submission which just kept spamming the Bicycle Kick?) Anyway, yes vote. Thanks also for the encode, Dammit!

Wow... that's really all I have to say. I wish I knew a little bit of what was actually going on, but this was pretty funny. This reminds me of the WarioWare submission from a ways back... that submission didn't get accepted, but then again, that game was a lot longer than this one and a bit more repetitive. For what it's worth, Yes vote. Oh, at first, I thought this game was going to be Incredible Crisis. mz, you might like making a run for that ridiculous game :-) There's even an American version, though Wikipedia says a couple games were removed from it.

This started as funny, when enemies were getting easily torn to bits. Then it got a little more boring. Then the final stage was hair-raising again, and then the ending happens and my jaw is on the floor. For being 3 seconds of input, there are quite amusing consequences indeed. I wholeheartedly vote Yes for this to go into concept demos. Also, by the way, I don't think this is a record holder for game time vs. input time. I think Barney's Hide And Seek still beats this :-) And that run is also a 9-game run! Edit: In fact, can't people also do this run quite easily on a normal console, given that they input the password correctly? All you need, it seems, is enough patience to hold the A button.

Wow, those secret levels are... fast... I don't know what to make of this, partially because I'm not that familiar with which levels are secret levels and what the objective is. Not sure if I'm voting.

Thanks for the encode Pirohiko! The opening bouncing made me wonder if this was another April Fool's joke, but then the game became a boss rush. As Mukki said, the style was great too, especially during the Tiny fight. I also think this should be published separately from the "all levels" run, but I'm not sure if we can justify this decision considering the precedent set by Chrono Trigger and Earthbound. Then again, in each of those cases, a relatively out-of-date run was being obsoleted, whereas the current all-levels run is much more recent. Screenshot suggestion: Crawling in the air over Ripper Roo

Thank you for making the submission text full of win! (Although "masperpiece" is misspelled...) Unfortunately, I do not have time tonight to check out this run, but I'll get to it eventually, especially since I would in fact be interested in a 100% run of sorts on this game.

Wow. Very nice job dissecting this game and coming up with such a large improvement! I think that submitting earlier than expected makes sense. The question is: does that mean this run has "known improvements"? In this case, I don't think that should be a cause for rejection, since it's not clear how much improvement you'll be able to get, plus this is already a sizeable improvement for the time being.

Oh man, Bisqwit has so many balls, he actually has to lose some in order to stay fast! In all seriousness, the frictionless category wasn't as entertaining by the end of the run. However, some courses were masterful, and the whole run is quite impressive technically. Yes vote.

Guys, thank you for making this public. However, in reading the arguments from this thread, there is one big point that nobody has brought up, something this site contributes that video hosting services does not. Although I also do not know all the complications of TASing (and I didn't read through all of Dwedit's thread), I have enough of an idea of what goes on here that I feel I can point something out. What this site contributes is a sense of community and a place of discussion / experimentation. Many people do not create runs in isolation; they solicit advice, they post WIPs, and they share their findings with others. By doing this, we all learn more about the games we play, where some of this knowledge goes to benefit speedruns of the actual console games. Sites like archive.org and YouTube do not provide the same support for developing good movies. Yes, there is the problem where we can no longer claim to emulate games perfectly honestly. But in my opinion, this does not invalidate TASing as a skill and an art in itself. The fact that TASing presents its own unique challenges compared to console speedrunning makes it interesting in its own way. Enough people over the years have still been interested in this skill and art. I've suspended my disbelief of whether a run is possible (especially in cases like Pokemon Yellow or Chrono Trigger, for instance) and let myself be awed and amazed. TASes do to games what special effects do to movies; they enhance the gameplay experience even if they don't feel completely lifelike. In summary, I feel like the site is still valuable enough, and still contributes enough to a legitimate cause, that it will get by with some important modifications to its Why And How section.

Nice, the game with the alien dancing and S&M is back! I totally was not expecting to see this game again. Also, great job with the run! The game does seem a lot more fluid with the faster machine gun firing. Good strategy as well with the last boss. One question, though: Why are your routes for Areas 1 and 6 so different when going down those green block-things?

Wow, glad to see that there's this much that's been developed for improvements to this game. If the game is such a pain to TAS because of lag, would it make sense for a few authors to split up the work? Maybe each of you can work out one or two stages?

Like many other posters in this thread, I'm not entirely sure whether racing games are well-suited for TASes. They usually have to have some kind of hook that makes the TAS special. (For instance, Biker Mice From Mars with the speed exploits, and Mario Kart with the unusual lap skips) This game seems pretty standard as far as racing games go, especially since you don't actually get to use anything like the hammer to really help. Pros of the game: cool-looking worlds, nice toy theme, big load of WTF with the burning and then the microscope (so I guess the Micro Machines really become micromachines!). Cons of the game: silly character types, lack of BG music, annoying controls of PSX version. It's clear you definitely put effort into this run. This all amounts to a weak Yes from me. I'd probably be more in favor of an N64 run if the controls make a big difference. (Thanks also for posting comparison shots of the two versions!)

I really liked that you couldn't roll all the time, which gave the movie a better sense of pace. Fights were done quite well. I even like the style choices, such as the bullet on the train (you work so hard to avoid that bullet through a bunch of difficult jumps, and then you get hit by it in the stupidest way possible at the end). Good job!

Now that the any% run has been updated, the published comments are outdated. Namely, this run does have all the tricks that the any% run has. (I don't think the any% had new tricks, but it did have new strategies compared to this run.)

Wow! Although there are certain things I do miss about the old run (more Meat Slalom, throwing an enemy over the shoulder), there were some really awesome stylistic choices in this run too. The air swinging technique is really awesome, and overall the quality is top-notch. Great job Mukki!

woabclf, you seem to have a lot of talent for exploiting glitches, and that's pretty awesome. However, the rest of the play is pretty unoptimized. I only watched the Heatman stage, and Heatman does move way too much. If you watch the published Rockman 2 run, note how little Heatman moves between each hit. I don't plan on finishing this run, largely for the same reasons others posted above, so I won't cast a vote.

Congratulations Nisto! Flygon, I don't have the movie available from my work computer, but if you want a screenshot, you should probably get one from the giant first enemy that Nisto jumps through. Your suggested screenshot is pretty good too.

Oh wow, I wasn't expecting a TAS of this infamous game. It's definitely faster than the SDA run, but then again, it really doesn't seem like a difficult game to TAS at all. I'm reminded of the runthrough of Dungeon Magic: Sword of the Elements, given how fast you blaze through all the screens, except that the Dungeon Magic run has tons more luck manipulation. I'm voting a weak Yes.

I watched this through nicovideo. As people have mentioned, it's pretty clear what gets borrowed from MM2, though there are some differences (for instance, the weapon that behaves like Quick Boomerang seems to have the amount of ammo that Metal Blade has...) The level design was difficult but interesting, and even though I was familiar with the MM2 glitches, this run still was pretty darn entertaining. As for optimization, it's clear that woabclf knows his stuff about glitches. There are unoptimized moments; for instance, I noticed some missed shots in the first stage, and every fight against the Air-Man-type boss had some pauses in the firing that didn't seem to make sense. However, this certainly doesn't look real sloppy. My view on this is that for people who like MM2, it's not just a repeat: it's like more levels were added to the game, with their own quirks. I like this, and I'm voting Yes.

(http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. Thank you for the thoughtful comments in your judging statement, mmbossman. I also think that after a run of better quality than Guanobowl's is published, and made more widely known to English-speaking audiences (i.e. a major site other than nicovideo), people will be a little more patient for a run that is super-optimized, implements all kinds of new tricks, and blows our socks off. I would still love to see such a run, and I really appreciate all the work that you guys do (such as MrGrunz, Bloobiebla, Mitjitsu, Swordless Link, and anyone else that I'm forgetting). Majora's Mask is also a highly anticipated run, and will probably be more enjoyable as well even with all the sequence breaking. Heck, while we're on the topic of runs that have had big improvements which weren't submitted due to being improvable, what other runs can we get partial improvements to? Rockin Kats, for instance?

Wow, it's not everyday when I get home and find a new submission already with a 5-page (now 6-page) war. Anyway, on topic, thanks to ghostrr for an updated nicovideo link! I watched the movie on there, and here are some condensed thoughts (nothing particularly new compared to other posters though):
  • The (J) ROM was less entertaining because there are so many cutscenes with text I don't understand now. However, I don't think that the ROM choice got in the way of what was important: the tricks. As a result, I find the ROM choice to be a nonissue, and I'm fine with what adelikat mentioned concerning the ROM choice... this topic has already been beaten to death.
  • There are good tricks in this run. Not every known trick is in there, and the tricks aren't fully optimized, but they are there and they are entertaining. This run shows off things that a casual OoT-loving audience would like to see.
  • There are definite speed-entertainment tradeoffs, such as the odd mushroom in the witch's place. I was also amused by the antics during the descent down Ganon's Tower with Zelda. Bomb-head is also amazing. These antics may have lost a little time or incurred lag, but I'm willing to let those slide. (A fully improved run should have fewer of those tradeoffs, though.)
For me, the only important question is: is this run better in the technical department than GuanoBowl's? They're both unoptimized, but I do believe this run is better. Yes, there is a "fully optimal" run coming in the future, but I think that given the circumstances of the old run, this run deserves to be published in the interim. When the new optimized run comes out, I'd love to see it, but until then, this seems like a better run to have displayed on the TASVideos page.
