I think the publication should say something about choosing easy difficulty.

WOW! This game should really just be called Legend of Zelda: Link's Superdashing. The tone of this run is so much different from the previous one because of all the crazy dashing and jumping. There are way too many impressive parts for me to mention, but I do want to mention a few parts that amazed me because they made me think "Why didn't I think of that earlier?". Getting the Moblin Boss to attack the right wall instead of the left was one of them. Also, superjumping over the enemies in the Dream Room. Lastly, the wallbounce during the third boss fight to avoid being stunned was awesome. A screenshot of you falling through the fish boss in Angler's Tunnel, doing the stunned sprite, might be really good. Anyway, enthusiastic Yes vote and preliminary nomination for GB run of the year. Great job!

This is definitely a weird game, but I think it makes for a really good TAS. The glitches are really helpful without being painful to watch, and the level variety is pretty good. I want to know which drugs the designers had when making this. Nice job with the run, and Yes vote. By the way, the muscle-bound picture of Tempo in the credits is downright scary. Also, it has Tempo's head at "normal" proportions, whereas your usual character sprite has a head which is basically half his body :-)

Good job wwmarx! This run looked a lot better than previous ones. In particular, the stage 4 boss looked less laggy this time. Also, two players are definitely more entertaining. I think it would have been fine to do the hyper bomb only once, but it was still cool. Yes vote!

Thanks Aktan for the awesome encode! As of now, I've only watched the run of easy mode (I'll check out hard mode at some point), but I get the impression that easy mode is the right choice. Already, the game felt repetitive, and hard mode can only make it more repetitive. However, I still liked this. I don't think this game is that slow (I did think that DD2 was slow, but I already voiced my opinions on that game in its proper thread). As heisanevilgenuis said, the run was the most awesome when you had a bunch of enemies to fight together. Also, the bosses never stood a chance. Lastly, major style points for throwing knives at the princess before grabbing her and taking her to the roof. I'll give this a Yes vote. This game is no Hagane (which is the most entertaining ninja game I've seen on this site), but it's certainly watchable. For screenshot ideas, I was thinking 12:45 in the Youtube encode, when you're sliding underneath an enemy. Alternately, some point around 10:15 would be cool when you're fighting black ninjas on both sides.

Ok, I guess I'll comment on this. I liked the original run; it was short, it had some clear luck manipulation, and the glitch was pretty funny. I think this run is good too, but I can't tell where the differences are between the runs if I don't watch them side by side. However, an improvement is still an improvement, and it was nifty to see how much work went into saving 11 frames. Yes vote.

It's a shame that the logs can't be made to work any better than that, but I'll believe you tried really hard. As for 5-3, nice damage boost off the fish to go through the first set of vines. I'm a little surprised that you don't kill more enemies near the end of the stage, though... that area crawls with lag. As for the boss fight, I've never liked the way that fight looks, jumping and whipping twice. How many times does the grenade hit? I was wondering if it would be possible / faster to whip once then throw a grenade in a jump. It seems to me that if you could do this, then the grenade would still do some damage when you're lower to the ground. However, I haven't actually run this game before... I just like watching it. So if I'm wrong, that's fine, but I thought it would be helpful to throw out ideas in the WIP forum.

Unfortunately, I can't really watch PCECD movies without encodes. Until then, though, much respect for running the same game with two difficulty modes! Also, including the intro scene is pretty cool. I look forward to watching these runs eventually. By the way, you mention a flame attack in your submission comments. Would that flame attack change your strategies at all?

I definitely had to fast forward a lot of parts of this movie. However, I still liked it. The run definitely looks well-planned and well-executed, and I sort of liked seeing an RPG run for once where the characters do have to level up, and even then they barely get out of the final fights. I think this is high enough quality for publication. Yes vote. Good job nfq!

Yeah, it is a shame. This actually is a good run. However, I didn't feel like saying "Yes" because of the route in Stage 6. If the run is updated with a proper route in Stage 6, I'd upgrade my vote to a "Yes", though I'd still prefer a 2p run.

Ok, if the grenade doesn't kill enemies quickly enough to reduce the lag sufficiently, I'll buy that. Good luck with the logs!

I gotta say, I don't like this game as much as SOR2. The music and sound are definitely worse. The game is also a lot longer. However, this still managed to hold my interest well enough. The route on Stage 6 should be improved, as others have said. Also, I think your fighting gets better later in the run: you miss some hits so that you don't knock the enemies down as much, keeping them up longer for more damage. (This was especially noticeable in Stage 6.) Lastly, this game really needs a 2-player run... SOR2 didn't need it as much since Max had enough variety as a character, but this game needs it like SOR1 needed it. I'll vote Meh, because I think you can do better. However, this is certainly a very good effort! You did a great job especially in Stages 3 and 4, when you used the features of the stage to your advantage. I look forward to seeing more from this game. P.S. Why isn't the sword used more often? It looks pretty good, though you pass it up the first time you fight ninjas.

I unfortunately can't really help plan out anything in this run. However, I would like to at least mention: this is pretty friggin awesome right now. I think that this run drags on a bit, but the setup is usually worth it. This would make an awesome "glitchfest" run for this game. Good work so far, Heisanevilgenius!

Looks nice so far! Your strategies for getting through the rock wall thingies looks a lot better than the current run, and it even seems a little better than Hisatoki's run. The lag is pretty heavy at the end of 5-1. Would more grenades help clear out enemies there? As for 5-2, it looked like you got on the last log a little late. Overall, this stage looks obnoxious... it's probably worth a redo to see if anything better happens. Have you figured out what influences the log drops?

Hmm, I'm somewhat amused. The clay pigeons were funniest to me, because I could pretend that a bunch of explosives were being set off in the town near the mountains. Also, I was surprised to see that some of the mini-rounds in Game B were faster than others: why is it sometimes possible to kill the two birds faster? At this point, I think the only main reason to publish this would be as a demonstration of a technically flawless run (at least we're pretty convinced of that...), especially to people unfamiliar with TASes. However, if I saw this as my first TAS, I'm not sure I would find it impressive. Instead, I'd feel like the TASer cheated, and I wouldn't see any skill in it. On the other hand, to pick another "bad" game choice, I can watch the Monopoly run and ask myself, "How in the flying lightbulb did that happen?! Wow!" Because of that, I don't think it's worth publishing this run. No vote, although I salute you Randil for the attempt.

I wish I'd gotten to watch this before it got a published encode. Now that I have, though, I have to say that this was quite cool. I liked this run better than the prequel. Nice job Mukki!

In 4-1, there's one particularly laggy segment when you're trying to take the top path. Is it possible to shoot the gun while on the lower level, so that the bullet takes out an enemy once you've scrolled the screen to the right? I don't know if the timing works out, or if this would reduce lag (since a bullet is an extra sprite after all), but maybe it could work. Or potentially it's worth it to turn around very briefly and shoot a cat or something.

Here are my thoughts concerning the use of a TASVideos Grue like this submission suggests:
  • Pro: This would effectively be a system of unpublication which allows for some flexibility, if radical policy change should happen again in the future. For instance, if people change their minds about this, the Grue's publication can probably get deleted.
  • Con: I don't see this as being particularly different from unpublication, since all the "obsoleted" movies would get lumped together in a giant "Obsoletes:" field in the Grue's publication. In particular, it would be difficult to look through the obsoleted movies.
  • Meh: No matter how you cut it, a Grue movie looks out of place. After all, it's not a movie. It feels like a hack, though hacks can be funny.
As an alternative, I would really support the idea of a separate category for "Outdated" submissions (though the category name could use some work), much like what fruitbane and CtrlAltDestroy mentioned. First, people can still readily look through these submissions, if they want inspiration for runs to improve or perhaps want to see which games to avoid. Second, a category change can be reverted if people change their mind about making a movie "outdated". Third, this avoids having an artificial extra movie to do bookkeeping. Given all that, I think my vote is a No, but it might actually be a Meh... I'm not sure. (I haven't actually clicked a vote yet.) I would not protest the Grue if it became a publication, but I think there is a better option.

Nice job again! At this rate, you're going to handily beat Hisatoki's run too. I especially liked how you handled lag in the first part of the stage, and I think I saw a zip in a ceiling block too. As for the boss fight, it did seem a little laggy even before he did the flames attack. The fight still looked good, though... he was out of your reach less than he was for Funk DOC.

I'd be curious about what a few levels look like without friction, but I don't actually think it would be more entertaining for a lot of stages. I dunno... I think it would feel too mathmatical, whereas the game with friction has some semblance of being real pool played by an expert. I certainly wouldn't give up the current WIP for a frictionless run.

Hey, sorry for the bump, but I saw this publication got updated recently. There's an error in the submission details... see beavinator's post above. Thanks!
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! Nice going Sonikkustar! Looks good so far! I think you made Stage 1 pretty entertaining, and opening up the first room of Stage 2 with the grenade looked like it cut lag. By the way, if you didn't know, Hisatoki has an improvement to Funk DOC's TAS on Youtube. I don't know where exactly he improves on the published TAS, but it couldn't hurt to have another basis for comparison: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGlzL-kQjEM

Nice try, Mitjitsu. I'm pretty sure that said S. T. A. (I watched the ustream thing earlier, though I had to do it as a Guest since I couldn't log in.) That's a pretty awesome edit though!

Is the currently-accepted submission the one with the improved final boss fight?
