Good stuff! Very obvious improvements on some of the bosses, and the overall antics were good. I don't see why you consider this such a bad game: it doesn't make a lot of sense, but it's a basic platformer with a bunch of different weapons available, which gives it a lot of variety when playing normally. I played a fair bit of the Game Boy game (which Sir VG did a run of), and that was fun. Out of curiosity, though, why all the missed shots? Some were to get your weapon charging, but there were also times when you'd miss a shot and then follow up with another uncharged shot to kill an enemy. Also, it's a shame that you couldn't kill more enemies in the train area or in Stage 7 without lagging up the game. I've got just a couple comments on the subtitles, which were overall excellent and funny. First, "bordem" should be "boredom" if you're going for correct spelling (this happens twice). Also, you guys didn't point out that the mini-game announcer changes after stages 7 and 8: he loses his sunglasses and then goes bald! That was always one of the funnier moments in the game for me. Thanks, though, for explaining the questions in the statue of liberty's game, though it felt like my subtitles were sync'ed too early for that section.

Nice! I'm glad to see a run of this game again. The sound is actually good. I agree with other comments so far that there could be a little more playaround (especially stuff timed to the music... that always amuses me), but I liked what I saw. Highlights: Big Blag was an awesome boss fight. I liked the couple Lindas in Stage 3 who fell down the shaft after you beat them, as well as the glitched rings in 3-3. I liked seeing Roper get batted around, and it was fun, though not as much so, watching Robo-Manus get juggled. Also, holy hell at pwning the Ratship so hard, and nice going with the Dark Queen when she hadn't even surfaced. However, near the end of Stage 3, at the last two chain fences, couldn't you grab the chain fencing a little more to the right? Also, as Priam mentioned, would it save time to die in the pits in that stage rather than climbing the background? Last minor comment: you listed "Uses death as a shortcut", but I don't think I saw you die at all this run. EDIT: Scratch my comment about using death as a shortcut. I completely forgot about the electricity tunnel. Thanks for the response, White Gastra.

Ah, it's that classic argument again. In the case of this game, I think entertainment is directly tied to playing the game fast, since there are nearly no opportunities for showboating or close calls. Also, the game is already so long that there's no reason to stretch it out further. I enjoyed seeing the puzzles in this game get solved, but this definitely isn't the game to highlight what tool assistance can do to a game. The only stages where delaying actually makes a difference to solving the puzzle are the "boss" stages, unlike in the original Solomon's Key, where there is so much emphasis on dodging swarms of enemies. We have one or two other submissions for puzzle games where timing does not affect how the solution is obtained (Kwirk comes to mind). However, I guess people considered Kwirk more entertaining because it's shorter and the multi-player puzzles are interesting. In comparison to Kwirk, I feel fewer of the solutions are genuinely surprising in this game.

This new trick wins every style point in the book right now. Very awesome! It's nice to see a frame war produce a new glitch. Yes vote indeed.

This game isn't too hard to follow, and the inventory bug doesn't take too long to watch. The diagonal walking all the time gets sort of annoying, but it's funny to see the rest of the party and the balloon doing the same diagonal jerking. Also, I was amused by talking to characters through walls. Lastly, the characters seem a little more 3D when invisible, I guess. All this adds up to a yes vote on a solid short run.

I do admit I like the frame wars, because it forces people to get creative with the improvements. It's just that the walkathon SMB run, which was originally intended as Bisqwit's joke, has been popping up so much, and the run stops being as fun when you watch it so frequently with small improvements. Does it make sense to simply update this submission with a better run when you guys make changes? After all, I do think that at this point, as Samsara has emphasized, the run is the product of all of your work.

Finally got around to this. I'm quite amused. This somehow felt more entertaining than Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord, though equally confusing to watch without reading the submission comments. Yes vote.

This submission copies most of its submission text from nitsuja's run. I'm guessing this is because the submitter doesn't know English very well (as seen by "Manipula lock" at the top, which is not in nitsuja's comments). Most of that text doesn't apply, though, since nitsuja did a 2p run. These are the questions I have: 1. Is a 1p run worth watching over a 2p run? My guess is that it's not. 2. Is this good quality? It has a really low rerecord amount compared to nitsuja's run. 3. Is the site getting spammed by automated submissions? I haven't submitted a movie, so I don't know if there's anything like a CAPTCHA that people have to pass.

Thanks very much, Sir VG, for the encode. I finally got around to watching this. I actually liked the lack of separation between the two screens at times, when bosses or buildings would stretch between the two. Also, the lack of separation made it clearer when the player was climbing ropes faster than the screen was scrolling. I actually really liked watching this game. The graphics are great... I might even like them better than Contra Shattered Soldier for the PS2. The music also made this enjoyable, and the death abuse was funny. The TAS still makes the game look difficult, which I appreciate. Nice job guys, and yes vote.

How is it really bad? Sure, it's pretty darn hard, but the controls are alright, the music is catchy, the graphics are average, and the game doesn't ever lag. Besides, nobody really expects a video game of a movie to have much in common with the movie plot. I guess the worst thing about it was the game mechanic that a death during a boss fight sent you back to the beginning of the previous stage.

I'm glad to see this game back on the queue. This was really hard, and the TAS makes it look near effortless, especially the risky strategy with the 3-3 boss. Nice discovery as well with the facing directions at the end of stages, even if that meant you couldn't do as many stage-finishing antics. Yes vote.

Personally, I like the idea of ending input as soon as possible, since it makes it look like you're showing off. "Look, I'm so good that I don't even have to touch the buttons to finish the game!" Aglar's Gimmick run, for instance, is a prime example of an awesome early input end. However, if stopping input early makes the movie look sloppy, then it's no fun (like in Xipo's submission for Mega Man Power Battle). As for user intervention by hitting Left or whatever, I agree with adelikat's point #2 above this. A user already know that they're playing a TAS movie when they watch this via emulator, so I think they can be responsible about this stuff. In any case, if all options are equally entertaining, then stop the movie early. Here, the movie is not made more entertaining by extending input.

Finally got around to watching this. I had trouble searching the link that HappyLee gave for the IPS patch, so thanks to andymac for the encode. I don't have anything real new to mention about the game. I like the look, and the sound is quite good for trying to adapt a couple of the Metroid tunes. The game almost plays more like The Goonies 2 than a typical Mario game. Style could be better, like not facing backwards most of the time, but the run is still good. As for hacks, I agree with Solon. I also feel that the quality of the hack should be a major deciding factor. Although Air isn't a pretty hack, it's still a good puzzle game for people familiar with the SMB quirks. This game is still entertaining, independent of whether or not it's a hack. It definitely is more fun to watch than Hard Relay Mario or Full Moon Mario or many of those other hacks we've seen before in the submission queue.

Hmm, I thought I only saw three trials get completed... I needed to fast-forward large parts of walking through halls. However, I still think this is a pretty good movie.

I'm annoyed that the game has only one main tune (I mean, the music of Bad Dudes was better than this), and the boss fights seemed to take a long time, but I like the quirky dash move and use of the shield. I also liked the idea of the bosses who start by holding barrels over their head, but they eventually end up on fire. Yes vote.

I liked watching this run knowing that high score was one of the goals. It kept things feeling fresh. I'm a little curious why you didn't use the fireball on more enemies in 3-1 and 4-1; was it too laggy? Also, jumping through piranha plants never gets old, considering how much trouble I had with this game as a kid. Yes vote.

Given all the question mark popups, I think Richter is just as confused as we are about why a key should be a better boss weapon than a chain whip :-) Seriously, yes vote. Nice going, and I found this more entertaining than the Maria run, although I think both should be published.

It looks like the flying would also be useful in more areas than you use it. Is it because the cooldown animation from the flight takes time? In any case, fantastic game and impressive run.

There's been a number of comments about how this run could be better. I'm still quite happy with this run, and I don't think we have to publish the absolutely-perfect-UMK3 run on the first try, especially if it takes a long time and a lot of work to make significant changes to the current run. After all, how many versions of the MKII run got made, with different variations on the glitches each time? </rhetorical>

A Maria run does look pretty repetitive when the Guardian Fist is used so effectively. I was happy to see that Dragon subweapon appear, but then it got used twice in the whole run. Also, could anyone elaborate a little more on when doves are better than Guardian Fist, like in the last boss? It's also a shame that you can't skip the intro cutscene. Regardless, this is really well done, so yes vote.

This run delivers. I like it in a different way from Truncated's run... Truncated's run makes the game look relatively easy (with the exception of a couple levels), whereas this run makes the game look really hard but doesn't care. Part of that is because of taking more damage in this run to save time. In any case, definite yes vote. I was also thinking this might be called the "long path" run or the "sightseeing" run (like Umihara Kawase has). Also, for screenshot suggestions, there are a couple times where an enemy is about to hit you when you're on the teleporter as Sky Cutter and yet you barely avoid damage: one time, it's an ice level and the enemy is a shark-like thing, and the other time there are four big red heads falling down. A picture from there would make an awesome screenshot, particularly the one with the red heads.

I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. I really like the little gliding motions. This looks quite fluid; yes vote from me.

I won't be able to watch this run for a few hours, but I'm looking forward to this. A 90-second improvement on a run by nitsuja is awesome indeed.

Seeing the cleared screens in the first couple levels was really nice, and I liked how the movie ended. Very solid!
