Good luck on the improved version! I thought this version looked pretty good too, with a couple comments: * I'm really amused by the boss that behaves like Yellow Devil from the Megaman games. When he's doing his movement across the room, is it possible to hang out in the middle more and dodge his pieces? That would look more impressive than staying safely in the area where he appears. * Does the clock boss come down randomly or on a fixed schedule? It seemed like some hits were really quick compared to others.

Is this 1-player? There was a 1-player submission for this game by White Gastra that was about 5-6 minutes faster than this. That submission was canceled because a 2-player run would be more entertaining. EDIT: Sorry, that other run was on SNES, whereas this is on NES.

What ntclark said. You don't need to thank every YES vote, but I'm happy for you. It's clear where the work went.

This really surprised me. Sometimes, I think certain characters were overused, but for the most part, each fight was fought differently. There were definitely some awesome glitches, and I liked the 2 player parts as well. Good taunting of the CPU as well, like when both Mileenas did the drop kick through the floor but only your kick landed. Did every character get used? Definitely a yes. I would still like to keep the MK II glitched run along with this, since that run glitches out the fatalities even more in entertaining ways.

This is definitely funny at parts, like the picture Aqfaq put up. The prince's motion is really amusing to watch in the sidescrolling parts. I'm also amused to hear how many sound effects made it into Link's Awakening. One question: why do you move left a little bit when entering the dungeon near the end before proceeding to the right? Unfortunately, the game is really long, especially if you can't read the Japanese. I still vote yes, however, since the play level looks nice, especially health management. EDIT: Also, did the screen have to stay glitched for as long as it did after the warp glitch? You do end up fixing the screen near the end of the movie, but it would've been nice to have more of the game look less glitchy. After a few minutes, the glitched look got distracting for me.

Thanks for the encode, but there's an audio desync near the beginning of the video on YouTube. There's a delay of a few seconds before the stage-starting music happens, and at that point the video is already past the "Stage 1" screen.

Sorry for asking this question before watching the movie, but how does this game compare to the Genesis Mickey Mouse Castle of Illusion? Do you think that this run should obsolete the Genesis run?

I am quite happy to have woken up and seen a new 100% Metroid run on the workbench. After watching it, I am thoroughly impressed. Obligatory yes vote. Out of curiosity, how did you get the Geega in Norfair to stay ahead of the screen for that last missile hall? I've gotten that behavior before on the console, but I don't know how it works. Oh, and concerning the no-MB run, I personally think a 1-item run should obsolete it. In the no-MB run, you need backtracking in Tourian to the Metroids just to have enough missiles to finish the Zebetites and Mother Brain, and that really distracts me from the flow of the run. Also, the 1% still manages to fight both minibosses, so it plays more exciting parts than the no-MB run does.

Satoryu, this run of the game is on Expert mode. Jackic's run was normal difficulty. Though I also can't watch this run because it seems to require a savestate.

I'm especially amused by the backwards foot-sliding in Level 1 and the end-of-boss poses in Levels 5 and 6. That boss in Level 5 looks like he's getting a special ending to his fight, and Ultramagnus is definitely getting a good stare at the last boss too. Nice touches.

Sorry for stating the obvious, but it also seems we have a duplicate submission for this. It looks like GTimeKiller didn't notice how to edit the submission comments, so another new submission was created with different comments. In any case, I'm interested in seeing these glitches, especially if they're new compared to the published run.

It looks funnier to me when Mario does the little zip over a ladder that's below. I'm not sure why. Yes vote for improving an already amazing run.

Nice vid arflech. However, "Thermite & Ice" must not have been as catchy a name for the developers of this game (let alone the fact that this video came out way after the game...) Anyway, I like this run enough. It isn't as exciting as the first Solomon's Key, but the solutions seem well done. It's annoying how long the game is, though: Lolo 3 took longer than this, but it had a little more excitement.

There's no reason to quit BEFORE someone accuses you of being a cheater, and I really don't think anyone was about to do that anyway. Everyone who joins has to make a first post sometime. nineko, there's a lesson to be learned from the character Kathy in Sideways Stories from Wayside School. People don't like her because when people make suggestions to try and get her to be more optimistic, she ignores the suggestions, gets in trouble, and blames them. In essence, she thinks people are out to get her, but in the end she's bringing most of the trouble upon herself. As for everyone else, I think this is worth reviving and getting fairly judged.

It seems that the game is just entertaining enough. It's at the speed where I can follow what's going on, but not too much faster, and it seems like the RNG isn't going to cooperate to make it too much faster. YES VOTE GET

Unlike the other runs I have seen from you, SDR, I really like this one. The key here is variety. Using all the characters is a nice touch. I would've liked the 99 combo to mostly stay on the screen, but the current way of doing it definitely made the game look broken, which is good here. pirate_sephiroth, I'd be interested to see what you'd have in mind for a changed run... I'm not saying this run is perfect, but I certainly find it entertaining and publishable. This game seems to have a lot of potential for other entertaining runs.

The bar antics were pretty awesome. Beating up women, then jumping away into the corner like a sissy, waiting for an old guy to show up and taste your fist. Afterwards, you run away from the other men in the bar who probably would pose a fair fight. The glitching is pretty ridiculous. Maybe the player really has been hitting the bottle too hard at the bar? The glitches get a little old, but the game ends before it gets way too boring. Yes vote. By the way, would it make sense to use the subtitles in FCEUX to explain the Japanese, or maybe to explain some of the glitching? When I watched the Youtube video, the Youtube commentary was somewhat helpful, so I figure that subtitles could also be useful.

Some comments:
  • The bottle-shooting game was pretty awesome the first time, but it got old quickly. After the first time, it's clear that you can hit the target plenty of times, so maybe some more variety would've been good after that. On days with more than one bottle, you only let one bottle survive. I think it would be a lot more fun to see all bottles get juggled successfully until they broke from too many shots.
  • The first quick draw segment is hilarious. It's like the villain is actually saying, "Shoot, I just got a hole shot through me."
  • I think you handled the fixed-time stages reasonably well. It was fun to see the little bonuses getting shot so often.
  • Lol, turkey vultures turning into turkeys when shot.
  • On Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday, why does Tin Star decorate a building with his gun? Do you need to make all the markings before the game lets you progress?
  • What happened on Saturday's gun draw with the guy looking like a baby? It looked like you missed, but you didn't take damage and the draw ended.
  • Something feels very politically incorrect with the Blousey Bros.
Overall, it would've been nice to have fewer missed shots. I'm not sure I could see where you missed the shots, but having those on the tally looks sloppy. The same goes for damage you took. The game reminds me of Paperboy, with its schedule of days, but it has more variety and is also way longer. It also has less action than Wild Guns. I'm voting meh leaning towards no.

I'm watching this now, and I'm a little confused by your submission comments about semi-fixed time stages. You say killing enemies will slow down the level, but you also say that all the enemies have to be destroyed. These seem a little opposite. Are you saying that you want to waste a lot of bullets on these semi-fixed stages, or that you want to waste none? EDIT: Thanks, the comments make more sense now.

I really felt like this game was underwhelming the whole way through. It seemed played well enough, but the game looks pretty awkward. When it got to the final boss halls, which usually is a time for TASes to shine by dominating the bosses, the fights didn't really look all that entertaining. Each statue goes with a few simple whacks of the sword. And having to switch away from the sword during the last fight, so that the character could jump over the boss's attack, really was a distraction.

I wish I knew about all the warps in this game when I played it. Also, seeing the pizza contests dominated by luck manipulation was very satisfying, considering the time I spent as a kid replaying stages because I lost the pizza contests. The fact that this is a pacifist run is completely awesome. You can see how easy it would have been for the author to kill tons of enemies, yet he manages to barely dodge them. This was most impressive to me on the levels involving skateboards; I found the skateboard ridiculously tough to control in real time. Anyway, I'm glad to see this back in the queue, and I'd like to see this published.

So, I wasn't crazy about this run when it first came to the submission queue. Then I saw it revived, and then I watched the walkthroughs. I appreciate this run a lot more after the walkthroughs. The game seems quite long (I can't tell how much longer an "unglitched" run of this would be than the original game). In this movie, the first quest is really completed before you have any idea what's going on, and only the second quest gives you a little time to get acclimated to how the hack works. I'm disappointed that the glitches allow you to skip a lot of the "One Way!" guys that really make the map design more interesting. All in all, though, I'm leaning towards publishing this run. The hack is still passable, and Baxter does get to break this game inside and out more thoroughly than he can do with the original.

I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. I don't know how I feel about this exactly; I recognize that the movie is really well done, but there are certain bits of entertainment that a 1p run can't do. In the published run, I loved the death abuse at Massacre Mountain, which can't really be exploited in a 1p run. Maybe the thing to have done with this run is to put a link to it in the published movie's page, like was originally done with cpadolf's in-game SM run.

I wanted to make sure I had some comment in favor of this run, and then I recheck the forum thread and there are more people who were also voicing their approval. I am happy. Basically, I don't have anything more to add to what Aitamen and zrflbr said. I've played the game a lot, and this does make the run look much more impressive when you consider how much tmont can get in the bosses' faces and kill them fast. The glitches threw me for a loop, too, and they really help the movie. The leveling is more tiresome, but the music is generally great and helps pass the time. I especially liked how, in the route planning, tmont stopped a few enemies short of his needed level to take on the boss, only to kill a few convenient enemies on the way and reach the needed level.
