Okay, at 83000 you got me really impressed. As usual, autoscrolling stages are the best.

First of all, Megaman quad run is impossible to stuff into YouTube's tiny ~320x240 movie frame. There's nothing you can do about it. If you want streaming video, use GoogleVideos. It has much less restrictions than YouTube, yet retains all the advantages.

Sounds like a good idea.

Torizo skip is easy, just follow the instructions I've prepared on the tricks page. Here's how it should look: http://youtube.com/watch?v=4McBbP1bV-A I might try improving it for v2, but this strategy is good enough, I suppose. I assure you, the only thing that's going to be hard is fighting metroids with powerbombs. The rest is a cakewalk in comparison.

Well… right, JXQ did it in his 100%v2 as well. Sickdeal is indeed hero's YouTube account.

I have a better solution: read the movie description. (What the hell, is it that hard? If I could be pissed off by something like that, I would be sooo pissed off.)

Just "warpless" isn't enough? Sounds pretty strict to me.

I'm a bit undecided on this one. On the upside, it was fast and surprising, and still got the best ending. On the downside, it skipped a lot of the game, items and abilities, entertaining boss fights and all that, and had minor mistakes as well as not very good stylistic choices. That being said, I still liked the run, so I voted yes. However, it leaves the impression of "we need more of this", so I still think it would be good to have a longer/warpless run that would actually show the game (according to my rough estimates, over 85% of the castle was skipped right away). Too bad JXQ's run will have to be obsoleted in any case due to the points brought up in his post above.

"This" being what? There's nothing to obsolete the current run with yet, at least until a new run is done. And if anything, it would be discussed after it's done.

It's still limited by the system's technical specifications, though, so the margin of improvement is too small to be easily noticeable, let alone dramatic, and all that only to get butchered by low bitrate MP3? I don't see much point, especially (as I said before), it doesn't even sound better to me. Only different, and different not in a way I like. Lifting off the limitations of the NES to produce a higher level of sound quality would have probably been better, but there's no way to extract that kind of information from the data stored in the game to be processed by the synth, is there?

Yeah, I do understand it's not about interpolation alone, but the thing is that I'm ok with noise. It doesn't sound "harsh" to me, I call it "crisp". Antialiasing that takes place in this case doesn't extract the original information subjected to downsampling (since it's largely impossible), it just tries "guessing" it based on the given input. These guesses may be right in one case and wrong in another (the "error" on the page you linked to: there's no way to predict the initial form of the wave if its samples eventually alias themselves to the same level), but what they're doing is changing the sound in a way I don't appreciate. For me, the aliasing artifacts is a part of the music — a whole genre of music. Trying to enhance it in such a way, especially given that it doesn't really uncover the details lost due to downsampling (much unlike hi-res textures for N64 games, even though the concept is similar), sounds a bit pointless to me.

It indeed softens the noise, which sounds like interpolation to me. And since I strongly dislike interpolation (while it makes the sound softer, it effectively muffles it, which is evident in these samples if you equalize the sound level), I would most likely be against such an idea. Although I generally am a proponent of the better quality at the expense of compatibility, this is not the case of better quality to me.

Wow. This run is worse/slower than the segmented unassisted run over at SDA. Mr. David Wilson could at least have checked it out before attempting something like this.

I'm not sure if I'm the man to ask about that. I know Snes9x 1.43-rerecording10 and 1.51 can record resets. That's pretty much all I know on the subject.

Honestly, a felony for selling something that has in no way capability to be lethal. Unlike cigarettes, alcohol, or drugs.
There are also knives, shovels, plastic bags, toothpicks… It's rather trivial to kill a man with a toothpick, provided you have enough freedom of movement to insert it deeply into their ear canal or eye socket or other unprotected spots of the human body. Do toothpicks need to have special approval now because of that? Enforcing punishment for selling something that has life-threatening qualities is one of the stupidest things ever. Everything can be dangerous. Hell, even plain distilled water is as dangerous as alcohol if you can't understand when to stop drinking it. The point is to educate everyone about those dangers, instead of spreading misinformation, and keep the general level of contentment high enough for people not to get suicidal or violent thoughts on a regular basis.

I forgot to specify… That first rinka has to be killed using a powerbomb. Also, pay attention to how I kill those metroids: all of them die at different time, allowing more opportunities to manipulate each drop. It's much easier to manipulate one drop at a time, especially since you'll have about 1/3 chance of a powerbomb refill from each of them… 33% is better than 1.23%, isn't it? Regarding the pre-X-ray room, it wasn't really boring, but the fact that you stopped and waited a lot left the impression of "he only had to take that etank; why, oh why didn't he do it".

Not a chance in hell. There's a lot of waiting/slowdowns in his testrun, about all of them could be eliminated with that one etank. Most obvious ones are the pre-X-ray room, the right red Brinstar shaft and the powerbomb room near the landing site.

That way you'll also "avoid" recharging at the ship. If you have no fast ways to refill the ammo while going through blue Brinstar, it's not going to be faster.

- taking the first energytank to make it easier since it is a no boss run so the 10% would not mind it or? its not the lowest classic-low% and not the lowest-xray glitch, taking it would make it easier and faster i guess to get noboss/miniboss at fastest time
Well, I advised you to go for fastest time from the beginning, so yeah, I'd rather go for taking the e-tank. Unfortunately for you, taking the Ice beam isn't worth the detour time-wise, so you'll still have to fight metroids with powerbombs. Also, a piece of trivia: killing the first rinka spawned in the room with metroids using a powerbomb makes all of them (including those offscreen) active. You'll have to do it at least for the first room (otherwise you won't have enough ammo). Kinda like this. And make sure you don't lose that much health before Brinstar the second time around, since you don't have to die on the spikes anymore. Also, before Tourian, you can get one ammo refill from the pirates in the zig-zag room, since you can kill the last two of them with missiles, manipulate a missile refill and a super missile refill, like this. The second refill was supposed to be a super missile, but it's actually very hard to manipulate it to drop from these pirates. Yet it's still possible and faster than going into another room in any case. If you want to discuss other possible improvements, feel free to ask me on IRC or via PM.

the pre-X-Ray-room looks fine to me. More health would make that room faster, but boring.
Why boring? If anything, it will remove all the unneeded waiting in the least, not to mention more optimal damage taking.

Although Dromiceius's post covers pretty much everything (especially in that last part), I'd also specify things like inability to withstand criticism, inability to back up bold claims, using nonsensical (let alone irrelevant) arguments, and chatting in forum threads. Note that these things are happening way too often nowadays.

Well, if by favorite, I will count the music I like to listen to outside of the actual game, then it's a lot of tracks from Chrono Trigger and FF6, in no particular order. Those are hard to beat in terms of good music. On PC, let me name Diablo (hardly an RPG, but why not).

I mean, if you have a rush soul (or any other, for that matter) already equipped, you can easily avoid the lock by using the soul on the first (or so) frame upon landing.
