The game is slow and really uninspiring. Really. There was nearly nothing in it to be entertained by, except totally pathetic postures Peter takes when jumping, ending a level, or even simply running. But the movie kept me watching to the end, so I guess it's a borderline yes.

I admire your persistence and willingness to polish this run. It looks better and better with each take.

There has been runs that was only improved by one frame. What makes this run different?
The run in question is a long-time favorite of about 1/3 of the site's active population. I assume not everyone will receive a frame-scale total improvement with open arms (see the story with SMB2 run by DonamerDragon). [EDIT] It's not like it's actually bound to happen, but who knows? One should get ready for such thing.

I support this point, but it would probably stir a huge controversy and a ton of heated debates if it was obsoleted by one frame. I take it, if nothing helps the hammer bros manipulation, the total improvement will be 8 frames? I'd say that's enough to obsolete an epic movie, but if you can find some more, it'll solidify your victory.

You're welcome. And when you'll make the thing work, tell me the results — I might try to do something like that as well.

I don't think so... Most TVs support 60htz format, and there is not any problem on recent games which can be played on 60htz. The electri outlets shouldn't be a problem too ^^
I think the problem isn't with with TVs as much as the fact that the electric current flows through them only 50 times per second, screwing up the timing. I don't know the exact specifics, but I believe you won't be able to play NTSC games on a 50 Hz power outlet without encountering such timing problems.

But wait, how are you going to play the NTSC version if you're still living in the region with 50 Hz electric outlets and PAL TV sets? Wouldn't there be, like, some problems?

That's… not half bad, actually. You missed a lot less optimizations than one would expect a first-timer (SM TASing first-timer, that is) to miss. Still there was quite a number of smaller scale mistakes, and Torizo fight was outright slow (you shouldn't EVER use power beam when it's possible to manipulate it to throw out the balls). Anyway, that was quite entertaining and I want to see more of it!

Not going to happen since it starts from an arbitrary savestate. :\ If there was a 100% run submitted, the SRAM generated by it could serve as a reference starting point for this run, thereby making it legit TAS-wise.

Some people seem to be worrying that this run should be published alongside the long one, as if there wasn't this movie. I mean, like, come on, as if you don't know what run this is going to obsolete. Also, voting yes.

Well, reaching moozooh-quality isn't really that trivial, you know. It's more a matter of patience. Only with alot of it you can get new experience and improve significantly. And of course it costs much time.
Rather, more motivation than anything else. :P Well, that, and also desire for more knowledge. FYI, my sloppy test run™ currently is 9 frames faster than the published any%, and that's considering I've ended Ceres 18 frames slower than Hero's run (didn't feel like optimizing/manipulating it at all) and lost ~2 frames in a certain part of the first cavern in Crateria. I want to nail all the timesavers you have found, and I believe I can do it myself.

Well, that isn't that bad. At least you're trying new stuff, and that is good. Trying new stuff is the key to making a good TAS. Play with frame advance and memory watch some more, and you'll get a hang of it. Basic optimization will become trivial with more experience.

uh, isn't there an unassisted low% using the horizontal bomb jump?
Horizontal bombjump is when you gain ~10 pixels of distance with every jump without increase in height. It's very slow and has to be very precise (consecutive jumps are nearly impossible in realtime). For crossing the missile moat, one would have to do 25—35 consecutive jumps, each having a margin of error of about 2-3 frames. IIRC, Smokey used diagonal bombjump (which always propels you upward as well as sideward).

The run Kejardon has put up on m2k2 is doable on a console. Rather hard, yes, but doable. However, all the runs that require using horizontal bombjumping have to be done on an emulator, since that trick is a total bitch to do even with frame advance.

Well, yeah, 2 and even 3 minutes of improvement isn't really much for an hour long movie anyway. Though if the Queen fight can be improved, it's probably better to update the file while there's a possibility to do so (not like it would take long to redo that last part, it's really easy).

My estimation: at least 2 minutes (probably up to 3). At least a minute is to be gained from all Metroid fights, and about a minute from things like Spider throw and other possible optimizations.
