Hmm, might want to change the region to "JPN/USA" instead of "Japan/USA", perhaps (since that is the convention followed by all the other publications).
Heh.

[12:56] <moozooh> journey to silius? already? damn, JXQ is a damn robot these days. o_0
I can't say anything on the topic of whether did anyone like it, but if you try to find all the instances of this video on the web, you'll see at least the number of views and/or comments. Start with YouTube and Google Video.
Poor production quality, poor play quality (most of that video was made from pre-frame advance era runs), poor coverage… I've stated some of these points in the thread devoted to that video, too.
I suppose the fact that it was made during the more TAS-hostile time didn't help, either. Videos like Morimoto's SMB3 and Spezzafer's SM64 did generate quite an amount of hatred from the uneducated masses and legit speedrunners (partly because of those uneducated masses as well) so that such a video wouldn't even look appealing with all the pathetic captions in the beginning.
Actually, I didn't consider the previous video a good promotional material (beside it just being rather unpopular, though it is a direct evidence of the poor promotional value), so I wouldn't want to spawn connections to it. The supposed difference between a new video and the old one would make the "campaign" way too incoherent among its parts. However, if production quality of the old video was better, and the video itself more popular, everything you said would be very much applicable.
I think it is possible, but none of the current any% runs take Speed Booster before Wrecked Ship. I'll test it now.
EDIT:
Test #1 — failed. In the best case, the missile hits the door, and I bump into it (as shown in the demo), in the worst, the door doesn't even have a chance to load before the missile reaches it, so it either vanishes or explodes inside it.
Surprisingly, the any% TAS was recently improved by more than 5 minutes. Heh.™
Awesome, Bisqwit! That'd be really nice of you. :D
5 players vs 1 player, hence 5 times the size.
It's actually possible to create a movie a few minutes faster, but it would be absolutely lame (getting the last item, equipping space/time beam, triggering the explosion and flying away). I guess it kinda shows that entertainment takes considerable preference in any case. And in this run in particular, there's a lot of work put into entertaining the audience as much as possible beside the input animation (example: Crocomire fight) with excellent style. If a new run would fail at this, I'd vote no.
Though it should be noted that I would vote no anyways, because it's possible to improve this run by a bit more than just few frames (my guess is about 3—5 seconds + something I don't know about yet). :P
As for the matter of whether input animation should be a decisive factor of voting — no, it shouldn't. However, author's attention to entertaining the audience should. But there's not many people willing to improve 100% metroid runs (or even make them, for what it's worth), so it's really a moot point.
As I've watched this run twice by this time (and surely will watch it more in the future), I'm gladly voting yes. I was waiting for this run, and it fully justified my hopes.
The tag action and character coordination is flawless. This run definitely proves the true value of a 2-player run where the second character does something more than just being an additional source of firepower (and occasional shortcuts, in some other games). Furthermore, the improvement over Genisto's already brilliant 1-p run is very convincing. Very good work, guys!
Holy shit, you've sparked through a frozen enemy! That's some ninja stuff right there. =D
Seriously, this is damn awesome. The run will get 10/9 from me.
Also, I demand subtitles for the AVI! Wrecked Ship animations are too great to miss.
Just thought of one thing.
KMFDM — [Symbols #01] Megalomaniac [6:07] — you won't ever be able to find more awesome lyrics for "god playing" video. Not even because they fit so incredibly well for a promo — rather, because they accomplish just the opposite. %)
Actually, I do think that Heavy Metal, Nu-Metal and similar heavy guitar music genres with pathetic vocals aren't too well-suited for such soundtracks. My opinion is that such soundtrack should be somehow connected to the game music, even if it is a remix, a rearrangement or something like that. Although if you want to use metal that bad, at least consider Machinae Supremacy.
Lol yeah, put in [Further Down the Spiral #02] The Art of Self Destruction, Part One [5:41], and it'll be a perfect promo video! Everyone will regret seeing it even once! :D
Whoa, you have both lower resolution and greater font size than me (I use default values on 1280x960)? Because the letters appear to be almost twice as big. :-0
Cardboard is working on an any%. The good (?) thing for Metroid 2 100% is that you need to fight all the metroids in any case — so getting all the items won't slow the run down considerably, as they're all on the way. I can say for sure than even a very good any% will hardly go below 45 minutes, while a fully optimized 100% could end at about 55-56 — the time difference surely isn't that big, while the content difference is.
As I've likely been the first to watch this movie (before it got submitted), I'll be the first to vote. As says the holy book of TASing, "in the beginning was the Vote, and the Vote was Yes". ;)
