To be honest, Saturn could have improved just as much in his early videos, and he is aware of it. JXQ is already working on an improvement to his 100% run, though, now extensively using memory watch.
However, that doesn't mean that 100% v1 was of bad quality, not by a long shot. Using only the tricks that were known at the time of its production, not much could've been saved, several seconds at most.
Hey Maximus! Or is it… Maxmius? :P
The screenshot was taken from an earlier version, but 0.10.1 has all the same. Not a biggie, but misspelling one's own name isn't the coolest thing on earth.
Voting yes! That was a great run, definitely, and a surprising one as well.
I wonder what would a combo of Fang and Browny do on one of the full routes… That'd be double awesome, I guess.
I seem to remember Upthorn talking about it, presumably the SMS emulation code had to be ported from Gens+ or something like that.
I'd go with adding SMS support to Gens, personally: the fewer emulators there are, the less hassle it is for everyone.
Alright, this is gonna be tough. :)

I'm only three minutes in, and I'm desperately trying not to wet my pants. This is some REALLY good stuff.
Also, nice speech recognition engine.
Half-Life actually does a good job addressing some of those laws. Now that I've seen all the Episode 2 gameplay demos, I can say for sure that I'm thoroughly impressed. After the easy and inside-out scripted Episode 1, this one looks especially cool in every sense.
Well, Deus Ex never was a shooter to begin with, so these rules don't apply to it.
Actually, the same could be applied to the allies' weapons (both stationary and mobile) as well, so there must be one more corollary about them as well.
Maximus, you weren't reading either what I wrote, or what both Vatchern and Sleepz stated as their primary goals. For the record, both of them aimed for maximum entertainment and traded speed for it accordingly, so likewise, a newer run should obsolete the preceding if it surpasses it in achieving the stated goal. Which, sadly, did not happen. If both aimed primarily for speed, accepting Vatchern's improvement would be a no-brainer.
As for my example with Mortal Kombat, does the fact that the current version is 17:55, and the version it obsoletes 12:22, tells you anything? It's basically the same story. If both goals can't be achieved without hurting each other, the author should make a preference, and they have made it. Simple as that.
It's not impossible, but Gradius is a good counterexample. It was kept there for stylistic reasons exclusively, and adelikat did a good job in both surpassing Morimoto in style and doing that without losing time.
See the example with MKII.
If the one that is "for speed" is much less entertaining than the one "for fun", then it's most likely that the vast majority would prefer the latter due to obvious reasons.
I haven't watched the long version, but in my opinion based on what I've seen so far, Strider is an example of a game that is better done in less time as possible (unless there are some very entertaining things going on in the long version that I don't know about).
EDIT: grammar.
That's because time wasn't the primary goal in either of the runs. Moreover, if you improve a run like that of Mortal Kombat II by 50% of its time (which is very possible), it'll be rejected instantly.
Strange, it playes perfectly fine for me (MPC+ffdshow, Athlon 64 3400+), aside from several-frames-long freezes on nearly every fade-in and fade-out (but it can hardly be the video's fault).
Unfortunately, I'll have to vote no.
I've directly compared some of the fights between this and Sleepz's version, and while Vatchern was inarguably faster, he failed to deliver variety that Sleepz tried (and to a certain extent, succeeded) to show. Just compare the fight vs. Simon in both versions: the previous had variety and style and hence was interesting to watch, the current is repetitive to boot.
So it is an improvement, but worse than I thought it would be, and definitely worse than it could have been, due to the reasons stated. I really looked forward to this run. :(
