Uhh… What hatches do you mean, the metal ones (like escaping Torizo)? If not, then could you please record a short smv depicting what you are trying to do?

What do you mean, isn't working? Take a RAM monitoring utility and compare your horizontal pixel positions with and without pumping.

Having it on 30 Hz turbo is enough for full speed. The speed increase is exactly 1 pixel/frame.

:D So you finally did it by freezing them one after another to form a bridge? Please tell me it is so.

I guess that means MPlayer can determine if the audio is in fact mono, not stereo.

Therefore, the problem is because of people playing the movie at 2x speed (who plays a 10 second run at 2x speed?) or people playing the movie on lame media players.
You misunderstood me. Several people including Maza himself reported such an issue with these videos when the audio played at twice the speed (note that none of them were actually playing the movie at that speed!). It was due to decoder playing the mono (one channel) stream, interleaving it between both channels. It's not the end-user, nor the decoder error. The error occured somewhere in the chain of capturing and/or encoding.

Since it's happening in very isolated events (<5 people claiming to experience this), I'd say it's more of a problem on your end, as opposed to Maza's.
Not quite like that. It was determined yesterday that the audio stream was indeed kinda broken (more specifically, it was mono stream with stereo header or something like that; that's why it doesn't work or plays at 2x speed on some software decoders).

Close, but not quite right. It's "Pozdravlyayu s Rozhdestvom i Novym godom". :)

I meant I won 8 frames over the previous attempt (the one in the recent WIP). >_> It's still not the fastest refill sequence on earth (I lost ~28 frames on it), but it's the best I've managed to do. Anyway, I'm currently in Brinstar on my way to Spore Spawn, again with 80ish frames of advantage over Saturn's WIP, and more than 500 frames ahead of Drewseph's run. Yes, I'm doing another refill sequence right now, and it may occur that I have to redo one of my previous rooms of Brinstar due to bad refill manipulation (I'm at low energy now, so nearly all the drops I get from the refill spawns are energy refills, which I don't need at all).

A 100% completion of this game (ie. getting all the mosaic pieces) might be interesting too, unless it's a several-hours-long run.
I believe that with heavy luck manipulation it can be done in under 1.5 hours. But that is going to be a very difficult task, with all the planning involved. If game's RNG is stable enough, it would first require to play through the game a number of times to calculate the encounter variations, probability of winning against each unavoidable army within the given resources, planning those resources, etc. A helluva lot of work to do. :(

Surprisingly, this movie was as entertaining as the recent 2-p one, with excellent stylistic choices (second boss!) and such.

There's nothing to obsolete yet. Morimoto wasn't around when N64 emulators gained rerecording capabilities. ;)

Playaround. Think Gradius. Think doing something inherently impossible in other fighting games, or in realtime matches in general, or anything ever seen before at all. <DK64_MASTER> I think moozooh linked to a youtube video * <DK64_MASTER> that antd made <DK64_MASTER> which was EXTREMELY impressive […] <DK64_MASTER> it doesn't have to be world record speed <DK64_MASTER> I'd love to see something like, bouncing players between 2 bumpers <DK64_MASTER> double hammers, but no KO <DK64_MASTER> something like that * — Talking about this video I copypasted into IRC channel.

I think he's talking about transcoding the video stream to DivX/XviD. Also, yes, it is possible via pretty much any application such as VirtualDub, MEncoder, you name it. Just set the video codec to any one you need, and set the audio compression to "direct copy" or whatever it is named in the program you'll use.

That's a regular observation of any dispute involving Nach. Give up on that already; we all know that he will continue with "DMG" and stuff, and neglect "mebibytes" at the same time. Also, Boco: I'd personally refrain from using PSX as an acronym for PlayStation, simply due to the controversy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PSX_(DVR); forum linking doesn't work at all) it can possibly spawn. This is the case when unambiguity is the way to go.

But I didn't bring up that fact. :D I just pointed out that there was some potential for improvement, nothing more than that.

Slowest TASer to (hopefully) finish a TAS: Me! :D With the actual start of the run right when I joined to now, it's almost been a year! And I've only got 1 and a half levels done, and am currently redoing all of it. =] So I'm not surprised if this game takes me like.. 3 years. Literally.
Don't worry about that — you'll have hard time competing with Saturn, since he [re-]started his SM RBO run in November 2005 (even before you joined), and will finish it only in 2008!

Those are all impossible to replicate the way I did in real time.
I meant tech-wise, not time-wise. Like, I know a human can't do a 30 Hz muscle spasm at will (and thus a tool-assisted movie will always be faster in such case), but if the technique itself is the same in realtime then it doesn't make big difference.

Very good. More than a minute off the published run, that's a notable improvement.

Btw, what exactly of all of this is strictly impossible to do in realtime?

Jaysmad, just redo the last two battles and PM Bisqwit to replace the submission file (having uploaded it to microstorage first). Having a boss fight slower than in an unassisted run is pretty much unacceptable.
