Wow, I just woke up and I doesn't understand how did you save so much time, but that is definitely awesome. Looking forward for a WIP if you're going to release it. Great that you've returned.

it's pretty amazing that times can continue to improve for games that were thought to be near-optimal.
That's the precise reason it isn't that amazing. What's thought to be near-optimal, should be made optimal at one point or another.

What Tub said. This was an April, 1st joke, it didn't have to be absolutely perfect to do that. Since you're not even submitting your run on that exact day, it loses all of its value. Voting no. However, I must say, you shouldn't be discouraged because of this outcome. Try improving some another run for a change, you seem to have some necessary skills to do that.

Well, according to Zurreco, no-one would watch "90 minutes of castle trekking", so I guess it's rather pointless to ask. :P

The trick isn't have to be frame perfect per se, it can be done in realtime with some practice.

That's the speed! You could at least update your own topic while you're at it. ;) The last meaningful message states you're waiting for a hacked emulator to monitor the randomness, if I'm not mistaken.

I think Truncated meant that a normal difficulty version of the warp run would obsolete pirate's, because his is hard mode and uses SRAM.
No-one was working on a warp run at the point the decision was being made. Moreover, if I remember correctly, no-one even thought about it. The run that was supposed to obsolete p_s's was Atma's v2 that later was taken over by Yrr.

Uh… what?

To allow a Normal difficulty run to obsolete this movie
I can't see how does that mean Yrr's run won't get accepted.
Zurreco wrote:
What can beat Yrr's run is, apparently, any run that beats it in completion time/style, regardless of what glitches it uses.
Why?

…Either the arbitrary "we can't have more than three runs of the same game, unless it's NES Metroid" rule should be reworked. …Either the Julius run should have been put in the concept demos category.

I don't think pirate_sephiroth's movie should obsolete Atma's movie. If anything, the Julius run should not have been accepted. That would lower the amount of movies to 3, any, low% warp, and 100%.
Yeah, in fact I was of the same opinion (with the only difference that the Julius run should have been moved to concept demos category). Of all the runs currently published and/or in production, the Julius one clearly is the most boring, and it lacks many of the tricks that could only be performed by Soma. I think Yrr should be safe about his run, because the only run that could possibly obsolete it is a normal difficulty, no damage, no warps run, as no-one has said otherwise (umm, are there any judges willing to assure us of it here?). Furthermore, as of now, it is the most technically superior run that has had some significant (as it's more than halfway done) progress in the past few months.

Why obsoleted? These runs are different ones! If not, I can stop my run, why should I make if it's not published??
Read the judgement details in at the bottom of the submission text, the explanation provided by Truncated is the result of the IRC conversation we had at that time. What I really don't understand now is why mess with all these obsoletions if Zurreco is still working on the warpful any% AoS run, so in the end, we'll have 4 AoS runs in any case: 1) any%, glitchless, damageless (by Yrr); 2) any%, warpful (by Zurreco); 3) 100%, warpful (?), hard mode (by pirate_sephiroth); 4) any%, Julius (by Atma). All of them are different enough to have their own goals and entertainment values.

There may be many reasons why you didn't like that movie: 1) You belong to the so-called "MTV-generation". 2) You watched a movie made in 1968 in 2006 and expected to see the same kind of SFX brainmushing blockbuster as nowadays. 3) You don't understand scifi. Star Trek is not scifi. 4) Any combination of the above.
You forgot "5) None of the above", which is the case for me, and most probably xebra (and others) as well. :P

Yes, I guess so. Right now your run is more than 27 seconds slower than JXQ's (his WIP can be found here) after the first world's boss fight. That is pretty much unacceptable, as you may see. Try to beat his time and if you succeed in both that and maintaining the same level of optimization for the rest of the run, I think no-one would say a bad word about it. Another good idea is to post WIPs and let the experts give you important advices and spot the mistakes. Good luck.

I only vote meh because it beats an existing run, but my question is, how could it?
Very simple: Bisqwit did his run on a european ROM, which, I assume, runs at 50 FPS. This run: 154030 frames. Bisqwit's run: ~159850 frames (by PAL timing). By frame count, this run beats the current one only by ~1.5 minutes, but considering how unoptimized it is (the lag is what kills me the most), it shouldn't be published. Voting no.

Yeah, if you plan on doing something like this, you should concentrate on the entertainment in the first place, without much regard to speed. When Dragonfangs did his Metroid Fusion 0% TAS for the m2k2 community, one of his goals was, if I'm not mistaken, "passing through each room in the coolest way". That interferes with the general TAS rules but is perfectly applicable to the "movies that that don't end up on TASVideos". Hosting the Action Replay'd movies (check this thread for an example) and Doom TASes would be a good addition as well. Also, think of tool-assisted trickery sections, TAS music videos and other kinds of fool-arounds. Good luck with your project. BTW, for the TAS making guidelines and all that stuff, check the FAQ. You can find it right on the front page.

I'm not sure what is being asked, if you intended to ask a question.
From my experience, when P.Jboy says "doable shot", he usually means "double shot". And yes, I have already asked him to stop making that mistake. >_<

Mine is a pitch black screen. I couldn't decide which of the thousand of gorgeous pics to use, and just went with black screen for two reasons: it doesn't hurt the eyes at night, and all the icons are equally visible in any part of it.

It's indeed a different run, more traditional because of the cross being used, but I wonder if this game can be pushed any farther? I don't think it's necessary to vote since it is being published but I'm going to anyway.
One major possible improvement I discussed with Morrison in IRC was trying to somehow cut the waiting time near the platforms in stage 10. I guess, currently we can't tell for sure if it is or isn't possible, but if it is, it would cut the game time to sub-11:30 at least.

BTW, will this run going to have this "luck abuse that is nearly impossible to duplicate, etc." line? Cause if it will, that would be for the third time already (talking about impossibility, yeah). :D
