Grab ZSNES, load the game and look for "Save SPC" shortcut in misc. keys setup. You may also fiddle around with disabling sound channels, via F5—F12 keys. Good luck.

Someone should add that link to the published movie text, IMO.

maybe we can patch FCEU.
Yeah, we should try to convince Luke of developing a direct "brain <—> computer" interface. A little patch is all we need!

well maybe we can TAS it, but we'll need lots of members.
You'll get hard time using frame advance (and watching memory content, too). :P

i continued to compare a little more and after a while i got the feeling that JXQ was faster no mather what section it was, even on stages they couldn't affect, like traveling downward and upward the "elevator", if feels like it have less frames to make a visual impression of a faster run even though its not since its speedup
The main movement speedup comes from this. Dunno about the elevators though.

So the candidate question is: Whether Terimakasih's 46:37 movie should donate its star to this movie? In favor: More tricks, better encoding Against: Longer length Neutral: Both are beautiful I'm 70% in favor.
How about a poll?

There are sound channels?
Well, of course there are. You should have already noticed that music and sounds are not interrupting each other. ;) NES has different sound channels as well.

It seems a pity that the SNES version has had more exposure than the Megadrive game.
Isn't SNES version better?

I've actually been trying to figure out if there's a variable I can poke at which determines the game's music.
It seems that sound channels 1—5 are responsible for the background SPC ("music") playback, and 6—8 for other sound effects. I didn't test it throughout the whole game, though. As far as I can tell, you can't mess with that kind of settings in Snes9x without modifying the code (I myself used one of the ZSNES latest WIPs to check that).

I would vote yes, but I don't know how.
You need your post count to be 30 or more. Until then, forum software counts you as a lurker.

Although not all of the tricks suited my taste, this movie was great. Some of your moves were cooler than in Neofix's movie, and some were just faster (but didn't look so fun). I guess it's impossible to show all the funny moments in the game without slowdowns… but hey, that was awesome nontheless. Yes vote, and… how about a star? :)

At least of all present Super Metroid runs, only this one really stands out. Terima's run was good, but it became out of the standard. Between these two, the star should definitely go a run of a much higher quality.

Well I totally agree with that, and I think your movie should get a star anyway — at least until something of similar quality is produced.

Was this supposed to get a star?
Quite improbably, considering the length. :( Although when (if?) OgreSlayeR's any% will get submitted, it will certainly get a star. The present any% already has one.

I think the other Super Metroid runs should get updated as well, at least before someone (I could consider this man a hero) will try to remake this run from scratch.

Haha, very nice movie Bisqwit! There were places in it that I found very entertaining. A little sad you won't be continuing it... Anyway, nice job! :)
Seconded. That actually looked much more interesting to me than any of the single gradiusoid movies.

iirc the sand can also be destoryed by those black shells that are found at the end of room.
Huh, are they really usable (or were already used) in a speedrun?

You let the digger-machine open the way for you. Then you shinespark through it. It looks as if you actually destroy some blocks with your shine-spark? Or is this wall really undestroyable except by that machine?
Normally, that wall can't be destroyed by any means other than that peculiar creature. You can't even speed the process up a bit. JXQ does the so-called space boost (which is spacejumping while speedboosting; shinespark is another move) at the first frame possible, and enters the gap formed in the wall at the same frame as the blocks blocking his way crumble, that's why it appears that he actually destroys them by going through them.

What's the current state of the run, actually? I had the impression it was almost complete, too.

You can't compare video stream to programmed sequence anyway. But this site uses video streams for distribution anyways, so whether it is better to use rom+emulator+movie or not, this is not the case.

It seems like the date's not estimated yet. But Omega is right, the thing may cost pretty much. I hope there'll be some kind of a stripped-down "public" version of some sort.

Yeah, AFAIR there were some working implementations… But they were either ineffective or extremely slow in encoding.
