Meh. Various Japanese publishers, from major to independent, have released superplay videos for different games, even self-developed (though mostly arcade ones), for about two decades by this point. Nintendo is looking at speedruns, like, 7 years after the phenomenon became prominent worldwide? Nice timing.

A boss rush may have a solid chance of being published (after all it is different from any other branch), and even if it won't it can certainly receive a honorary mention in one of the published movies' (say, any%) description. I think it's no big problem. I should note, however, that a glitched BR will have a higher chance due to being less feasible on the console and having less player-imposed restrictions.

Blocking Mail, if received on the way to Balore, might save time at least by skipping the second Succubus on the way to Graham. I'm sure you can get enough exp for the next level up from the golems and the minotaur you still have to fight later, after which it becomes largely irrelevant except for the two glitched level-up screens that will have to be made up for in other places (Demon Lord/Stolas?) somehow. It will probably also allow killing a few enemies (Weretiger comes to mind) without stopping or by attacking them from behind (like Final Guard, if that is even possible). Might also be able to block Graham's fireballs allowing for a more consistent hit rate. Yeah, that is indeed viable; curious that it's been overlooked since pirate's glitched TAS. It seems that the 100% run already has a few seconds of potential improvements since the 11 minute mark. :o Also, nice job on the article, rhebus, cool to see that you've picked up formatting nuances!

I get unsubscribed from threads all the time. No idea why. Just posting in one unsubscribes me.

Ilari is right, though. TVs (and better yet, multisync monitors) don't require exact same timing to sync; in fact, deviations up to 10% off the standard are technically possible. To give you an example, 1996 arcade game Raiden Fighters runs at 54 fps synced at 54 Hz on a regular NTSC arcade monitor connected to a 60 Hz power outlet). It might be that not every TV would handle that without problems, but 58 fps stuff can be handled by pretty much any one of them.

Here is an image averaging lua script (for FCEUX) I made. It's not perfect, but it works allright. Just enter start frame (startf) and end frame (endf) in the script while playing a movie. It is all frames between (and including) startf and endf that will be averaged. When the movie has reached frame endf, the emulator will be paused and the averaged image will be displayed on screen. Just make a screenshot to get the averaged image in .png-format.
Haha, this reads suspiciously like the usual "here is a level 1 WIP that beats yours by n frames" fare. :D

I'm worried this is actually better than the site can handle.

More like it's because nobody makes a big deal out of it here. But it's still a far cry from, say, Sweden. Copyright infringement here is rather seen as something that is nominally evil and punishable but ultimately impossible to control on a large scale, partly because of two reasons. 1. RAO, our RIAA/MPAA analogue, is absurdly cocky and untrustworthy. It goes as far as to jump in protecting right possessors (record labels almost predominantly) from… the authors themselves (like it happened when they attempted to fine Deep Purple for unauthorized performance of their own songs)! And every time some large-scale copyright enforcement happens it always looks like a criminal act itself. 2. People got used to everybody copying everything. It happens on pretty much every level of the society and there are orders of magnitude more people doing it than those looking after them. Many of the "pirates" don't even see it as doing something bad because they've learned to share goods since they were little kids, and it would be hard, if not impossible, to convince them otherwise. Maybe someday people as a whole will learn something from this.

I was a bit amazed how casually and naturally some people will admit to their own piracy in public, in front of a class of students and a professor, like it was the most natural thing in the world, without any worry.
If that amazes you, don't come to Russia. Many of the movies shown here by professors are downloaded (and our largest torrent tracker actually received a public people's choice award a couple years ago).

Make a new page for it, transfer the content, and delete the old page. Also, my edit is done, so feel free to contribute further and mind the capitals on proper names this time. ;) Also, you might want to add parameters to the memory address table (byte size, signed/unsigned).

There was such a rule or some variation thereof, which eventually lead to xebra getting banned.

Sorry to disappoint you, but just because you partake in some specialized community's activities it does not give you a right to be so condescending. I hope I don't also need to remind you that TASing is only one of many possible ways of using an emulator. In fact, the process of TASing has little to do with "being pro at emulation". Who is a "pro", anyway? Instead of turning up your nose at "noobs" try giving them examples of what else they can do using emulators. Also, please abstain from using the word "noob" in a derogatory sense. It's exceedingly stupid, and I would like that lingo to stay away from this forum. Thanks for understanding.

I remember trying it with a Springball, no dice. Apparently it doesn't introduce a significant enough change to the process behind opening the door from the wrong side.

It's not "from a dead stop", because Samus is still moving towards the gate prior to releasing the missile. The mechanics behind this are the same as usual (the missile spawning point is being shifted forward by the horizontal velocity), the point of this video is to show how to make it easier unassisted.

And was0x beat Ferret by 1.4 seconds further. This is not only a bad game choice, this run is obsolete upon production.
