What exactly is factored into download rate?

I was going to vote for Nach, but this poll only contained Nach, Nach, Nach, Nach, and Nach, so I'll abstain this time. Tapping the pool of uncreative jokes since 1985.

I was going to say how cool it was of Nach to develop a feature of automatically adding posters to the poll as options but realized he was most likely doing it manually. Oh well.

Haha, I didn't realize there was a possibility of serious response to that. Got me there!

"Replay file" could actually work because a lot of games allow you to save replays which are mostly identical to our usual key input files. "Ghost recording" would conflict with the existing concept of ghost recording which implies seeing an input "ghost" while you play.

Eh, Fabian is more hateable when he's passive-aggressive, not sincere. I voted for TASVideoAgent, because he's a jerk for reporting broken links in the channel when a post is deleted. On a more serious note, I voted for TASVideos Grue.

Im sorry but you are not a player, dont speak for them, i am a player, the 10$ bounty is very motivating (at least it was for awards), and im gratefull for it. As you saw, i did refunded them to the site, this even more motivate me to tas, because, i cant realy make a donation by myself, giving out my bounties is a good alternate way to still contribute to the site treasury.
That's at least the third time you open your argument with "you're not a player, I am". Previously I would have asked if obsoleting one of your runs would suffice for making my argument seem more plausible, but at this point I'm through with penis measurements. Now I just respond with Wikipedia articles. Behold: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ignoratio_elenchi. I wouldn't have said that $10 is too low if it wasn't too low for myself, for instance. It won't motivate me to do a TAS. Not because I'm "not a player". I've worked and helped others with their TASes long before you joined the site, so it's not that I don't know how to do it. I just won't go out of my way to do it for $10 if I don't have my own interest in it that is completely irrelevant to that sum.

Seeing somebody break the rules doesn't justify being rude yourself. Aren't you a moderator yourself, btw? You should not only follow the rules rigorously, but also never be rude at all then.

"Movie file" -> "[key] input file". My pet peeve though is "movie editor" under my name. (For the record, I proposed "publication editor" instead the instant I read that the first time.)

As for moozooh's points, I don't see the motivational factor becoming an issue unless the bounties become very big. Most of the bounties thus far have been $10, and even for a short TAS, that's not much of a monetary return on a time investment.
Yeah, see, that's the other side of my point, which I briefly grazed in my opening paragraph as well as the discussion of monetary prizes in annual award ceremonies. A low bounty (say, below $30-40 in total) means next to nothing in real world because the resources invested in producing a quality TAS (worthy of opening a bounty in the first place) are orders of magnitude more expensive. Like Mitjitsu said above, "you would have just as much success just flat out requesting someone to do a run", which is what we've already been doing for years anyway. I don't really see a reason for bringing money, even in such laughable amounts as $10, into the equation because it doesn't really fulfill the expected purpose of motivating a player. Viewer feedback and respect in a community are worth a lot more already, and especially so when they aren't fueled by something as unfun and prone to mistreatment as as financial relationships. At least a point system is free from materialist incentives and obligations. Anyway, I'm not that adamant about my position in regards to monetary bounties, but I will state it as much as needed that it's not something to be treated lightly, and others have already outlined the possible disadvatanges that may directly or indirectly stem from this idea otherwise. Having a monetary incentive may, and, especially in cases with large rewards, most likely will alter the player's behavior in a way that will prioritize getting the reward, often disregarding various aspects of TASVideos activities that may compromise that goal. Just keep this in mind and don't be surprised if it turns out that way. [EDIT] To illustrate my point about insufficiency of small rewards, just briefly think how much would it require to make you take on a project to the caliber of OoT any% if you didn't already want to do it in the first place. If it's less than $150-200 I'll be surprised.

For one, TASes of RPGs I'm familiar with mainly interest me from the standpoint of strategies, sequence breaks, and glitches. But as I have no prior knowledge of an RPG I've never played (and honestly don't have enough time to play through just to watch a good TAS), I have either to postpone it indefinitely, or look for other options that may help me in this respect. "Just play the game" is rarely an option, especially if you aren't keen on pirating games (consider the site's official policy on the matter) and/or using emulators to play them (that, depending on the host and emulated system, may have issues with controls, performance, or emulation quality). That said, about 1.5 years ago I started playing Lufia 2 because people said it (and its TAS) was awesome. I got bored about halfways.

mmbossman has a point, though: this is an English-speaking forum and all conversations should either take place in English or have translations provided by the members involved. If you want to speak in your native language, there's always the PM button.

Having news on the same RSS as submissions/publications is really useful; for instance, that's how I learn about ~90% of new TASes in the first place. Live TASing is an idea that needs to be taken out with great care, as it holds some very nice potential that is easy to tarnish with a thoughtless implementation.

Among fighting games (where the emphasis is on fighting and not the idiocy of game programmers), my favorite has always been MK4.

Disregarding the above awesomeness, I think we should not bring money into TASVideos's process of content generation. There are two reasons I'm not opposed to the same happening at SDA (though I don't endorse it either). First of all, SDA is inherently more competitive due to the nature of unassisted speedrunning (where TASes are better seen as collaborative work). Second, making a good unassisted run takes physical effort — something not present in creating a tool-assisted movie. In a TAS, basically everything is a question of time the player is willing to spend on a project. Depending on their knowledge, they may even have most of the job done for them using Lua scripts and somesuch. While a finished product does benefit community in a way, it also creates an unnecessary motivation anchor that may psychologically devalue regular contributions. I think, instead of pouring money into something that is already appreciated by hundreds and thousands of people, they're much better spent donated towards development of emulators and their functions, and to TASVideos itself.

Should we make a separate thread to discuss this? I think we should.

Although it's a bit too late for that, I wonder why you didn't do the equipment switch you do just before Kicker Skeleton somewhat earlier to make the Disc Armor fight a bit faster? Everything else seems excellent. I guess I will wait for the submission, because at the pace you're going it will be done by March. :)

Well, so far you've failed to beat an unassisted run. http://speeddemosarchive.com/MetroidZeroMission.html Try again?

The fact is admirable, if somewhat underwhelming.
